Joe Torre is out as manager of the New York Yankees, rejecting a new incentive-linked contract after the team failed to make the American League Championship Series for the third straight year. His new contract would've cut his base salary from $7.5 million to $5 million and add $1 million for reaching the playoffs, $1 million for reaching the ALCS and $1 million for a World Series berth

"Bench coach Don Mattingly is the leading contender to replace Torre."
"Goddammit bench you better be here when I get back, and I mean you better be right here."

Yes!

The Yankees continue swirl down the drain. Rivera will leave. Posada will leave. Hopefully, A-Rod is on the way out. Steinbrenner's mongoloid son Hank is taking over. This is gonna be fun.

I'd like to see Tony laRussa take the helm. And see Joe Torre go to manage the Cardinals.

As a Cardinals Fan I don't think I want Joe Torre back... 351-354 while he was the manager here.

I want Joe Girardi to come to ST. LOUIS!!!!!!

Those of you in the East may not believe it but the world doesn't revolve around the New York Yankees. This is only a big story because because you clowns think that the world revolves around your Yankees. Joe Torre was the most overated Manager in baseball history. Any number of Managers could have accomplished what happened in New York over the past twelve years. Look at Torre's record for the other three or four teams he had managed, not much huh!!!

George, pays the bills George and his management team drafted the players, paid for free agents so they had the best team money can buy. With there payroll they should be in the hunt every year, given the players that they had and have now anyone with major league managerial experience could have done equally well.

So, Joe take your Millions an get out, if you can refuse 8 million dollars, I for one am getting tired with my radio, an TV, and newspapers reporting about pampered Millionares and there job issues, give me a fucking break!!!!!!!

Who?

Are they a farm team for the Rangers I haven't heard of?

Regards,
etc.

I think George Constanza could help A-Rod fully realize his potential.

I love to watch the Yankees!...(lose, that is)

I have two ways to look at this.

first and foremost.....when anyone can tell stienbrenner to take his money and stick it up his ass.....well that seems to me to be a good thing.

but look at it this 'real world' way too....

his salary would be close to the same except that the guaranteed money would be moved to incentives....

isnt that like any salesman who gets a base pay and commissions on HIS WORK........

or how about teachers who might get a couple of thousand in merit pay if they can get some hormone raging teenagers to pass a test or two when they might leave school everyday and do drugs or work some job until midnight and have no parental supervision or live in a dump somewhere and then the teacher has to get them to learn and appreciate mozart, bach, or good books1.......

so the bottom line.......he's just another professional athlete who might have to strike because 5 million plus incentives JUST ISNT ENOUGH MONEY TO LIVE ON THESE DAYS.........

but of course we arent talking real world here, so maybe we will just have to be happy with his message to steinbrenner.

TAKE THIS JOB AND SHOVE IT
I DONT WORK "ROUND" HERE NO MORE....

I don't want to see Torre go. But when he was hired to replace Showalter, it was an extremely unpopular decision and they won the Series in his 1st year. As long as they get someone halfway competent to replace him, they'll be just fine. Your obituatary is a bit of wishful thinking.

They've been doing alot of things right by focusing on their young pitchers. They do a good job of replacing all stars who leave with new all stars. They'll be fine.

You contradict your own arguement by saying he won with the Yankees because of the talent, then by pointing to his record while managing lousy teams. Make up your mind and then post one arguement.

Oh, and Rivera and Jorge will be back. I could care less if A-Rod leaves or not. On the one hand, he's the best player in the league. On the other, the ridiculous press coverage and the "not a true Yankee, when they lose its all his fault" nonsense coming from idiotic fans makes following the team less fun.

I think they should get rid of all the overpriced stars and build the team from scratch around Joba and lots of great younger players. I would only keep Posada and Jeter to provide some direction in the clubhouse -- but that's it -- everyone else should go.
