Best Buy Co. said Wednesday it has stopped selling analog televisions and pulled all remaining stock from its shelves, signalling the end of an era as consumers increasingly move toward digital products with flat-panel and high-definition screens.

What the fuck is TV

its about time... I wonder what the conservatives are going to do... Clinton's fault.... had to get that said.

If not for Clinton, all you rednecks wouldn't have 54 inch plasma TV's to watch wrestling and NASCAR on.

Best Buy Stops Selling Analog TVs

I guess my rabbit ears will have to go.

dont ditch those rabbit ears yet CC- ill bet there will be some interesting things hidden in the old analog spectrum once mobile carriers and others start using it- they are clamoring for that airspace already

finally, rupert can hack every tv in the country.

In case nobody noticed, the federales are offering two $40 coupons per family to buy converter boxes. Cost to the already burdened taxpayer: $5 billion. Gift to the communications giants: $5 billion.

Go ahead fools, vote Demopublican and keep taking it in the ass.

I have no idea what Clinton might have contributed to plasma televisions, but as the president who signed radio deregulation into law he is ultimately responsible for the lack of diversity on the radio, whether politically or musically. You can choose from Clear Channel, Clear Channel, or Clear Channel to get your news and music. People wonder why music sucks so much these days! Thanks, Bill, you killed rock and roll.

Ok... let me get this straight. The government is giving us back $40 of OUR money (remember, they got it from OUR taxes) and so that means they are giving it to us in the ass. Riiiight.

The only shame is that they aren't giving us MORE back.

"You can choose from Clear Channel, Clear Channel, or Clear Channel to get your news and music. People wonder why music sucks so much these days! "

Other than the few AM talk shows I like to listen to, I gave up on broadcast radio a couple of years ago. Endless repetition. Endless blathering and bothersome ads. I went on the satellite, the internet, and the cable. Sure I pay for all of this monthly. But to me it is worth it.

- Cable access for TV and internet is pretty much a given these days - though there is also satellite, which has it up and downs. Some really good music channels available over the cable TV network. And over the internet, the access and variety are absolutely incredible. Run it all through my home audio systems.

- Satellite radio is a god-send. One portable unit that I can move amongst my vehicles, take it into my house, carry it on my bike, hook it on my belt when hiking. A variety of music to suit my tastes and my moods. No bloody ads!!!

I haven't bought a CD for quite a while. No real need to risk running afoul of RIAA downloading music.

It is about time that the TV broadcast/transmission standard is finally being updated. The current NTSC standard has been around for over 60 years, from the beginning of TV itself.

Yes, the transition will be painful for some. I made the transition to HD Plasma last January. Yeah, it was a bit painful when I plopped down the money for the unit (to replace my old RCA ColorTrak that was finally starting to go Tango Uniform). But the pain went away once the unit was up, calibrated, and displaying those wonderful, fantastic images from the Planet Earth series in High Definition.

No, it has little to do with Clear Channel (though they certainly feed the problem)---it has more to do with the complete lack of musical taste by the American public. People would rather concentrate on cup size of the singer's chest and whether you can bounce a quarter off of their ass than listen to a GOOD song. It isn't about music--it is about image and familiarity. Ever wonder why you can tell EXACTLY where a song is going the first time you listen to it? It is because it is ALL THE SAME CRAP. And that is because people don't want to find something new, interesting and innovative--they want what is short and familiar. Why else would people listen to an unoriginal 2 minute 15 second pop tune with predictible changes, a 4/4 beat that focuses on cheap, predictible hooks and has the same commercial song structure as every other piece of crap marketed to the public?

I could care less about the radio--the music is dreadful. I may get Sirius soon--but i've noticed they've got the same tendencies as radio (it is only a matter of time before bad taste and commercialization ruins Sirius and XM too)

Good thing I have more music than i have time to listen--and it f-ing rocks.

There's music out there--you just have to go out and find it.

Support the local live original music scene. There are some dreadful acts but also some incredible magic here and there.

Can someone tell me if this means analog/coax cable will end too? I keep hearing conflicting information on that. I don't use over-the-air stations, but I do use just the straight cable into my TV. We only have basic cable, so we don't have/need a box right now.

Look, I realize HDTV is great and all... but we own an old Phillips/Magnavox 27" tube TV. It still works great and I really have no inclination to spend money on a new TV.

We literally watch like MythBusters, Dirtyjobs, the occasional PBS program and that's about it. I'm sorry if we don't feel the need to plunk down dinero on a flat panel.
