Democracies are doomed to failure. The average person is not intelligent enough to manage their own life. They need government to insure what they are doing and thinking is correct. And with the UN clearly we can get a bigger government. The bigger the government the better.
With only one government there will be peace all the time. No wars for nasty corporations to get rich off of. We will have government officials to hand you everything you need to be happy. Money, drugs ... you want it ... you got it. And remember government is never corrupt and always has your best interest in mind!

The morons of the right want a UN that only has members who are in agreement with the US on virtually all things, unfortunately that would result in an organization of one country. The purpose of the organization is to be meeting place for opposing nations to talk to each other (unlike Bush) and work out differences. Since we have had the body we have not had a world war, that one fact should be enough to prove the worth of the UN even to the stupidest of the right wing wackos who post here. But it won't be.

Why do we buy billions of dollars worth of goods from those countries, why do we give tax breaks to American corporations who outsource jobs to those countries......Why???? Because in a corporate oligarchy slavery is just another term for cheap labor.

Are the Chinese in general better or worse off since they changed their economic model from one of the workers' paradise to one that is somewhat under control of the 'corporate oligarchy'?

The UN has its uses but those who think it is some kind of moral authority are crazy. You can't be all inclusive AND a moral authority. Either you let all the two bit dictators have their say or you take a moral stance. It can't be both.

Not only that, but the UN pretends to be responsible for things such as stopping genocide (the UN charter says it must act against genocided) and then refuses to act in some cases of genocide. Functionally, this equates with sanctioning certain genocidal efforts.

I don't want the US to pull out of the UN. But I don't want the UN to act as a world government either.

Danni, you sometimes make some great points in your posts, but just a little advice on presention style: it does not help your argument to open it as you do above. Also, try not to fall prey to the urge to overuse punctuation marks. Just some advice.

Oh - and in a corporate oligarchy, the low-paid people make about $2.00 a day, others around $4.51. Pretty poor stuff, but technically not slavery.

Is it just me, or are all of you spouting off with "idiot" comments, functionally not understanding how the 10 non-permanent members of the security council work? Or have even bothered to ask the question and find out the answer as to why these sorts of members get voted in.

I haven't seen anyone on here attack the premise that allows such countries to be voted in, or even anyone even attempting to understand it. Idiots? if that wraps you in warmth like a blanket so be it, but don't be surprised when the rest of the world think us as idiots.

There may be plenty of reasons to not like the UN, but you people don't even know where ballpark is, much less have anything intelligent to say about what it is.

If anyone wanted to be so bold as to elevate this debate, would be nice if you could actually list off specific reasons why you have scorn for the organization, unless of course you can't handle the retort.

It seems to me that the problem with the UN is the membership of the UN. It is difficult to deal with countries that are diametrically opposed to your own and who want to prevent you from carrying out your own agenda around the world. The good thing though is that the bickering,etc in the UN is diplomatic instead of war. Me, I'll take a body like the UN, even if it is pretty ineffectual, at least it is a place to go and discuss things, usually preventing wars. Doesn't prevent them all but even if it only prevents a few it is well worth the investment.

Danni: The latest Fighty Righty huff with the UN is the UN knew Bush would fuck up in Iraq and wouldn't join the clusterfuck-to-be. They hate having all the third and fourth worlders laughing at them.
