After months of frustration, a mother of a soldier in Iraq has found someone to ship about 80,000 cans of Silly String to the troops, who use the foamy substance to detect trip wires on bombs.

If this is such a great idea why isn't the military providing?

I heard about this awhile back and we chipped into a shipping fund, I'm glad she finally got someone to do it.

As far s Kighthawks question, I can attest fro experience that the US Military isn't long on common sense.

The military can't afford it. It needs to pay for Blackwater mercs and the overpriced hight tech gadgets that the defence industry has been lobbying for years to get.

The Air Force didn't know when a flight would be going to Irag so they couldn't store the 40k cans. Our military can be good and so brain numbing stupid. What, no space to store this stuff, on a military base- no space for storage. They don't know when a flight is going to Irag, they are the Air Force, if they don't know who would?

You bein serious here? If sooo... wow...

I learned this from some Canadien engineers at Ft. Bragg, they had a lot of mine and booby trap experience, before our deployment to Afganistan.Simple but very effective. We brought our own with us.

Troops paying fer their own gear in the most over-priced conflict in history?

That's just fucking charming.

Canadien engineers?

Must be from Montreal!

Silly string save lives?

Maybe they'll haff to start calling it "not so silly after all string" or sommat.

Spud already calls the suicide bombers over there "not-so-smart bombs".

Spud's big on calling things wot they are.

Be Well.

The military procurement guys spend years coming up with "mil specs", specifications for a product so that it is consistent from situation to situation. That's why some crummy companies get into the business -- they know the people writing the specs and they know how to profit from the military penchant for writing in specs that only a select few contractors can provide. And given the closed nature of this administration, only a few favorites would be allowed into that game.

I recall that Bush had absolutely no problem managing to send over 363 tons of cash ($4 BILLION) on huge pallets put in the back of U.S. military aircraft to his pal Paul Bremer (head of the CPA) in Iraq when Bremer told Bush he wanted hard cash ASAP.

But now it's too logistical a problem to coordinate flights for shipments of 40k cans of "silly string" to keep our military guys from being killed and shredded by IED's?

You tell me where their priorities lie.

You mean like they do with armor, upgraded vehicles, rest between deployments, healthcare and pay raises for the troops?

Just another example of Republic boy president supporting the troops.

Bullshit, that is just another excuse from an administration that values excuses over results.

If the troops really mattered at all to this administration they would have everything they need when they need it.

Funny how the Iraqi military can get the improved fighting vehicles but our soldiers can't.

The priorities of the boy president are painfully obvious.

GOD BLESS OUR TROOPS. WE LOVE YOU AND SUPPORT YOU!

without you, we would not be able to moan and groan from the comfort of our office chairs.

regardless of how we got there, our troops protect our nation.

THANK YOU FOR ALL YOU DO TO PROTECT THE GREATEST NATION ON EARTH!

Indeed, thank you all, more string will be on the way as soon as we can get this Cessna off the ground.

I'll bet I know what the delay was, Haliburton stalled things while they tried to remarket it at $1000 per after camouflaging the can it and changing the name to:

Security-Line
Avoidance-Cable
Protection-Thread
Danger-Twine

And Larry's favorite Booby-Detector

Talk about an old story!

Just another example of Republic boy president supporting the troops.

YA........ BJ Billie realy took care of them when he was in office. He made sure they had everything the needed.

I forgot to mention, Humpin Hillary will look after them too when she becomes the first president that squats to pee.

what's the lead content of that silly string?

Sniper....

You get a Clinton Deflection flag for that one.

What a good little right winger you are. It is just going to kick the shit out of you when Hillary is the president isn't it?

Will you hold your breath and plug your ears?

Not for internal use, point away from face when discharging.

While the Pentagon is asleep at the wheel, or worse in bed with the wrong Contractors, a Mom worries and does something about it.

I'm not sure if you remember or if you've ever read about it, but the civilian population has helped out the military in times of war from time to time.

The general attitude, these days, however, is to rely on Government to make decisions like this.

This is dangerous! Don't you think?

There's no truth to the rumors that Air America host Randi Rhodes (above) was mugged near 39th St. and Park Ave. Sunday night. She is scheduled to return to the air on Thursday.

--------------------
Air America radio host Randi Rhodes is temporarily off the air, but claims she was brutally attacked near her Manhattan apartment are bogus, her lawyer and a police source said today.

Fellow host Jon Elliott claimed on the liberal radio network that Rhodes had been mugged while walking her dog, Simon, on Sunday night. Elliot, who said Rhodes lost several teeth in the attack, waxed about a possible conspiracy.

"Is this an attempt by the right-wing, hate machine to silence one of our own?" he asked on the air, according to Talking Radio, a blog. "Are we threatening them? Are they afraid that we're winning? Are they trying to silence intimidate us?"

A police source said Rhodes never filed a report and never claimed to be the victim of a mugging. Cops from Manhattan's 17th Precinct called her attorney, who told them Rhodes was not a victim of a crime, the source said.

Rhodes' lawyer told the Daily News she was injured in a fall while walking her dog. He said she's not sure what happened, and only knows that she fell down and is in a lot of pain. The lawyer said Rhodes expects to be back on the air Thursday. He stressed there is no indication she was targeted or that she was the victim of a "hate crime."

Rhodes started with the Air America when it launched in 2004. Her show airs from 3 p.m. to 6 p.m. weekdays.

The network released a statement that said Rhodes "experienced an unfortunate incident."

"The reports of a presumed hate crime are unfounded," the statement read by a receptionist at the network's New York offices said. "Ms. Rhodes is looking forward to being back on the air on Thursday."

Still, the tale lived on in the blogosphere.

"What the %$#$ is WRONG with you people?? Are you that SICK in the head that just because you don't agree with someone's political views you believe that they deserve to be mugged? Are you on the right that DEMENTED??," a blogger called neddlenosehanty posted on watchingthewatchers.org.

Another blogger shot back, "I very seriously doubt if this unfortunate woman was mugged by a conservative. To jump to the conclusion that she was mugged by someone on the right is bigotry of another kind. Think not?"

I need to send Randi a box of Silly String just to cheer her up.

726... "It is just going to kick the shit out of you when Hillary is the president isn't it?"

Urp... Oh, sorry I just puked up into my mouth a little bit...

Having to buy thier own silly string how disgusting I guess Bush and his cronies don't think the troops need it like armored hum-vees.If this asshole in the white house has to send our troops in harms way they should HAVE ANYTHING and EVERYTHING THEY NEED.You can bet if it was him or any of his family on the ground they would. But what am I thinking he would only find some place to hide like he did before with daddy's help. He's a total SCUMBAG.Lets get rid of ALL republicans in 08 and maybe just maybe we can fix the mess they made of our country.
