A barber with strong ties to the military community pulled out a gun and shot himself in the head at a City Council meeting after his request for a rezoning measure was rejected.

I agree with the decision, but this guy let city council ruin his life? I don't think so. It sounds like he planned to refinance and takeout all the instant equity and be even deeper in debt.

There's always another day and this guys luck could have changed tomorrow but he'll never know it.

Ward had said he needed his home to be rezoned as commercial to increase his property value. That would allow him to secure a loan to offset debt he incurred expanding his shop, which is in another location near the Fort Campbell Army post.

Sounded like he was already deep in debt and the council vote was the final straw. He was not thinking rationally -- or fairly for that matter -- if he thought that a zone change which could have had negative effects on all his neighbors should have been implemented just for him and his business alone. I doubt his surrounding neighbors would have been thrilled having their own home properties rezoned to a commerical area to accomodate this man's debts owed.

"The Council yields the floor to the mad barber."

The important question is: Are there any pictures?

That's Youtube material.

I think he misunderstood the council when they said a little over the ears...

Well he certainly showed them huh?
But aren't we indeed fortunate that our leaders like George Bush and Dick Cheney would never, ever do anything that rash! We are truly blesses by God!

Rooster Coburn would applaud this man for not letting a little craziness get in the way of his Second Amendment rights.

But I like his idea. I'm going to ask city hall to rezone my home as a Grand Celestial Omnipotent Thingmabob. No property taxes and people will have to pay me money when they drive past it, fly over it, or even visit nearby.
And FF for Vernon.

The barber heard some one say "A little off the top, please."

Well that's just sad.

When the 101st got deployed to Iraq Ft. Campbell suffered mightily. They're on their 3rd deployment now I believe.

But aren't we indeed fortunate that our leaders like George Bush and Dick Cheney ...

The Lunatic is in your head .....

10 pm on a Friday night, and all you can think about is your seething hatred of Bush and Cheney. On a completely irrelevant thread, this is the first thing that enters your mind

The Lunatic is in your brain

AC may seethingly hate Bush at 10pm on a Friday night, but I have a hunch 8 years ago Clinton consumed you all day, every day.

I have to go with post's 1&2. Very sad outcome, why
take your life over that even at financial ruin.

Real estate values fall dramatically, banks stop loaning on equity, people get caught in the crunch, suicides increase, he should have jumped out the window, it would have been more symbolic of the times we are living in. Coffins might be a good investment strategy.

Mortitians always make money.

Iraq put the hurt on Ft. Campbell, KY and the Clarksville, TN area.

The 101st has been deployed to Iraq 3 times now. Hurts everyone in the area in many ways....

Oh, my sainted hat! Did I hear someone say, "Why take your life over financial ruin"? Well, because in the United States of America, if you are not fiscally solvent you are nothing...no one....a sub human. And, if you don't believe me, well....I guess you have never had less that $30,000 a year income.

Once again this is a sign of what our country is coming to. It has been 'money over humanity' for some time now, but with the current party in power, it has reached way beyond obscene. (Or have we forgotten the times back in the '80s where women were fired for becoming pregnant and small businesses who threatened no one were forcibly shut down by huge corporations who were so greedy that they would not allow anyone who DARED to be in the same field the chance to follow their american dream? You think all that is gone? Then you are truly deluded.)

AU notices, "The 101st has been deployed to Iraq 3 times now. Hurts everyone in the area in many ways...."

Yeah, and that's why their sacrifice of high salary, living in less than middle-class conditions, dedicated to duty and service to country, protecting our freedom and way of life, is so abused in using their death as some sort of excuse to withdraw from Iraq, and provide a win for the very enemy that took their life. It is a disgusting example of callous disregard for their dedication and that of their familys to use them to gain a partisan political advantage, and when if asked they might wish that you didn't mock them in that way.

What urge for gain for party over their service, their desires and their death, impels Leftist/Democratics to so cavalierly want to have the enemy they died to resist win; along with their political victory in discrediting Bush, the war, and half the rest of our population ...?

Some slimey, selfish motive -- a win for team over honor, over service, over duty, over nation ... and in assistance to the victory of human sacrifice to advance Islam, Allah and his prophet Mohammed ... along with death to homosexuals and other deviants ...

Reportedly his last words were: "What are you laughing at? The next one's for you...."

A redneck's last words:

"Hey, Y'all watch this!!"

There is a very sad story behind this one fer sure...Such a tragedy that I won't touch it with a ten foot pole except to say this:

It is a sad commentary on life in America today to see more and more people becoming desperate enough to choose this route out....and seeking to make a "statement" on the way. It could have been much worse...he could have shot everyone at the meeting too.

How about that?
Tadthepolesmoker opens his mouth-and bile spews forth...who could've predicted THAT?

Wipe your chin taddy boy.......

This man's suicide was a tragic waste and left his family in mourning - on the other hand if Bush & Cheney had done the same thing it would be a day of wild "Celebration" all around the world!

Heyduke lies, "Uh just worry about Canada and your rotten beer..."

Canada has the best tasting large production lager in the WORLD, and more than just one brewery doing so! Molson's, Labatt's, and Moosehead are prime examples!

... and on draft they are more than just world class ...
