Drudge Retort: Red Meat for Yellow Dogs

If Rudy Giuliani wins the Republican nomination and a third party campaign is backed by Christian conservative leaders, 27% of Republican voters say they'd vote for the third party option rather than Giuliani. A Rasmussen Reports national telephone survey found that a three-way race with Hillary Clinton would end up with the former First Lady getting 46% of the vote, Giuliani with 30% and the third-party option picking up 14%. In head-to-head match-ups with Clinton, Giuliani is much more competitive.

This could prove interesting. Will the far right Christian conservatives stay true to their convictions and assure the Dems of regaining the White House, or will they cave and back a candidate who doesn't reflect their beliefs just to get the win?

The final straw, bye bye Rudy....

Isn't it amazing the damage one bad president and one bad war can create?

Perception is everything in the primaries. Giuliani's main strength has been the perception that he is the most electable against Hillary Clinton. Hillary's main strength has been the perception of the inevitability of her nomination.

Hillary has done a great job of managing her perception and moving into a strong front-runner position. Rudy hasn't been so lucky, and things like this and the recent resignation of his chief fundraiser, possibly for not meeting expectations, erodes the perception of his electability.

"On the other side of the ledger, more Americans, three in 10, said they definitely would support Clinton rather than any of the other leading candidates of either party. In contrast, 17 percent said they definitely would support Giuliani"

"At this point, a hypothetical matchup between Clinton and Giuliani shows the senator leading the former mayor 51 percent to 43 percent. When the Post-ABC News poll last tested the two against each other, in January, the race was a tossup, with Clinton at 49 percent and Giuliani at 47 percent. In the new poll, among those following the campaign very closely, Clinton enjoys a sizable lead -- 58 percent to 40 percent."

"Many Republicans have said that they are eager to run a general-election campaign against Hillary Clinton, describing her as a highly polarizing candidate who would unite and energize the opposition. But, as of now, Clinton appears to be no more polarizing than other leading Democratic contenders. Nor is there a potential Republican nominee who appears significantly less polarizing."

"Americans currently view the top four Republican candidates in equally or even more negative terms. Forty-four percent said they definitely would not vote for Giuliani, while 45 percent said the same of Sen. John McCain (Ariz.). More than half of all Americans said they definitely would not vote for former senator Fred D. Thompson of Tennessee (54 percent) or former Massachusetts governor Mitt Romney (57 percent). "

Don't let the door hit your ass on the way out, have a nice life.

Cork - where's Bowa on this one? I figured he'd be here by now telling us exactly how St. Rudy will overcome great persecution, walk on water, and have "Ask me about 9/11" carved into the front gate of the WH as he waltzes through in '08.

Rudy will win the nomination and the conservatives will stop whining and get back in line.

What else are they gonna do?

Allow Hillary to be President?

LOL

yeah, that'll be the day.

-get back in line.

Locksteppers Unite!!!

I don't know, SA.

I offered him 5 seconds to thoroughly discuss Rudy's foreign policy experience, giving us time left over for a sandwich.... and dessert.... but never got a response.

-What else are they gonna do?

Stay home.

-get back in line.

Yeah, those conservatives have a very wide stance and they'll bend over and let Rudy ...... shove a plunger up their ass.

"yeah, that'll be the day."

It sure will!

"Allow Hillary to be President?"

Allow? How fucking delusional are these idiots?

Let's look at this logically. If both Rudy and Hillary are Liberals, then what do they care if Hillary wins? A Liberal will win anyways if Rudy wins. Just because he has an R next to his name doesn't mean anything. And just because Rudy promised he would appoint pro-life judges it doesn't mean he won't break his promise or that he won't have to cave to a Dem senate that will block it.

-Just because he has an R next to his name doesn't mean anything.

It means more of the same NeoGOP warmongering, no matter which empty suit they run.

Seems Bowa is reluctant to address the actual issue, in favor of placing head firmly in sand.

Jeff Gannon likes him that way.

i and many conservatives we know are registered "decline to state" status.

then again, here in the south there are many registered democrats who vote conservative - supposedly if it were found they were registered any other way than their parents and their parents before them were registered, it would be grounds for dismissal from the family.

i don't get that about democrats - never did, especially having come from a long line of them myself. it seems you really deplore conservatives.

many republicans i know personally feel as though this party has abandoned them, not the other way around - but, there is no way on earth there is a democrat candidate any one of us could ever support.

oh well, perhaps a new party may have a shot at it - i'm sick to tears of the political scene - it started happening far too early for me!

"Many Republicans I know personally feel as though this Party has abandoned them..."

It's abandoned everything, just about. You can't get what now passes for the Conservative movement to talk about much of interest to anyone any more, largely I suspect because virtually every topic that arises is associated with some Bush failure they don't want to deal with.

The icons for the modern Conservative movement, what it will be remembered for in fifty years, will be that cadre of smiking twenty-somethings rooting for wars they never had any intention of fighting in.

Mixing the threads here, but Democrats are from Venus, non-aligned from Mars and Republicans out of Uranus. herm

Cork - where's Bowa on this one?

Here was a comment I made on townhall.com today about this issue:

"In answer to the question "How did we ever get to the point that Rudy is actually considered a serious candidate for the Republican nomonation?"

The draconian and moronic far-right conservatives who share more in common with their extremist brethren on the far-left then they do real Republicans should ask themselves how they destroyed the party I belong to through corruption, hypocrisy, and a betrayal of their own fiscal principles.

The Giuliani/Shwarzenegger moderate wing of the party is the future of the GOP.

And you can either suck it up and admit that you paleocons and religious righties blew it and get behind Rudy, or you can hand the 2008 election to the likes of Hillary or Obama.

And frankly, it is us moderates who have had to suck it up it all these years having to suffer through your extremist views which offer no room for compromise or debate.

So now it is your turn. And you traditional conservatives need to stop your damn whining and focus on the fact that we are all Republicans and the only credible populist message that our party has is coming from us -- the GOP moderates. And Rudy is our guy."

he's NOT my choice, but i will hold my nose come election day and vote for SOMEBODY!

300,000,000 plus in the United States and these clowns running as the Republican and Democrat nominees for President in 2008 are the best we can do? Sad commentary.

REPEAT AFTER ME:

The midwest will not vote for Hillary.

The midwest will not vote for Hillary.

The midwest will not vote for Hillary.

I guess Bowa's definition of a moderate is somebody who has backed Bush every day on all issues.

FF for him.

Hillary has done a great job of managing her perception and moving into a strong front-runner position.

what perception?

40 to 50% of voters will not vote for hillary when asked.
If you think the other 50% of the voters are democrats,
think again.
If you ask the question of who you will vote for, Obama or Hillary,
the answer does not mean anything outside the actual question.

rwd

Oh Don,

It's truly amazing what you can learn if you peruse the thread a bit.

www.drudge.com

Agree

"what perception?"

Well, if you would read my post again you might understand that there is a strong perception in the party, and the country in general that her nomination is inevitable. She is far and away the front runner before the first primary has been held.

Get it?

And just so you know, the percentage of voters who say they would not vote for Rudy is actually a couple of points higher than Hillary's.

Ann Coulter's the 3rd sex. She'd be a dandy candidate for their 3rd party run.

Call it the 'Fa-Q Party'

"Ann Coulter's the 3rd sex."

Ann Coulter's the zeroth sex.

There, fixed.

If both Rudy and Hillary are Liberals, then what do they care if Hillary wins?

But they are not both Liberals. Rudy actually represents what used to be called the Center; a tempered combination of both conservative and liberal ideas; i.e. Nelson Rockefeller, John Lindsey, etc. He will beat Hillary because he will attract as many conservative Democrats as he will lose religious Republicans.

Even the primaries are a tossup at this point. It's way too early to predict the national.

Besides, I've found that very few people are really able to predict the thoughts and actions of people they fundamentally disagree with. Whenever I hear a Republican speak with certainty about what Dems will do, or vice versa, I know it's usually BS.

Add to that, most people think they are in the majority, and that most people agree with them - which is rarely true. In reality, people just hang out with people they agree with, and assume that's a representative sample.

oh corkey,
Don`t think i get my information from you champ.
I don`t read every post.
Glad to see you`re as smart as me with the facts though.

rwd

I have said it frjm the start. Rudy stands zero chance. As a liberal Democrat my deepest wish is for Rudy to get the GOP nomination. If that happens, conservative voters will be staying home by the trns of thousands next election day. It may leas to largest Democratic majority in Congress in history.

Ann Coulter has a man-gina, so he/she does qualify to run as a 3-rd party candidate. "ANN'S OUR MAN '08"

I think that a good percentage of religious conservatives will just stay home. A low turnout will be blamed for Rudy's defeat.

You really must be dreaming if you think that religious conservatives will help Hillary get elected by not voting.

Rudy put redlight cams all over New York to spy on the population. If he becomes president you can expect him to "clean up" America the same way.

There have been redlight cams all over London for years, and it's the only city where I feel safe walking around alone at 3 in the morning.

Totally agree

The media has wanted Rudy Vs Hillary from the start. It really doesn't matter who else runs. IMO

I am an Evangelical. I have great respects for James Dobson and the like. But I won't necessarily follow their 'one issue' deciding factor.

Because the President is not called to be a pastor or a Christian activist. He can still exert trememdous influence over legitimate Evangelical causes and concerns without having to please all the Evangelicals or people of other religious persuasions.

I am an Evangelical.

well, that explains it all

My fellow Conservatives (and clear-thinking individuals): LISTEN! Even if Rudy is the nominee, our country will not survive Hillary Rotten Clinton as Commander in Chief.

Hate your country? Want higher taxes, socialized medicine and the immigration floodgates torn down (it's bad now, but you 'aint seen nothin' yet)? Then by all means stay home or vote for a third party candidate.

Seperation of Church and state...

Well that'll be the day
When you say good-bye
Yes that'll be the day
When you make me cry
You say you're gonna leave
You know it's a lie
'cause that'll be the day
When I die

I would like to add,
a stern look and a pointed finger for our national defense.

Pandering to the islamics(see we`re not so bad).

Reduced security by eliminating the Patriot Act to a meaningless piece of paper.

Also allowing unrestriced calls to the US with out any type of monitering in place.

Elimination of the 2nd ammendment.

Carbon taxes and credits on that bogus pyramid scheme.Yes we have carbon credits for many years now and see where it has gotten us.Nowhere.Except as a way to tax the poor while the rich can buy their way out.

A new definition for the word demoncraps.

Unparalleled destruction of our national identity.

rwd

The long national nightmare is coming to an end. The GOP is DOA. And all the rightwingers can do is bitch about it. LOL

The main complaint about 'socialized medicne'? "I can't choose my doctor, I"ll have to wait for procedures"....

Guess you've never been a part of an HMO as most Americans with health insurance are.

In an HMO you are told WHICH doctors you can see, when you can go, you have to call ahead to get an ambulance ride covered (even if you're unconscience), nothing is done without preapproval by a 25 year old 2000 miles away, who without medical training, is put in charge of decisions regarding your life - seeking profit over your well being.

Now, on the other hand, with Medicare you can go to any doctor you want to anywhere in the United States. Procedures and tests your docotr recommends are given without question.

So, which do you prefer?

So, which do you prefer?

I prefer to fix the problems that have caused high health care costs, not increase the cost through taxes. If we absolutely must have government run healthcare, it should be done at the state level so that we as citizens have more control and can vote to reform it if necessary.

And the Rudy vs Hillary debate is laughable. They are essentially the same and either one of them is capable and likely to continue to destroy this country. As long as you keep voting for corporate candidates, that is the best you can expect.

We do not need medical reform what we do need is tort reform.
Unnessessary lawsuits and deep pocket judgements got to go.
They are a major burdon on health costs.
Lets see...the liberals will erode our rights under the 2nd ammendment but will not address the right to sue.
I wonder why?

moder8,
I am not complaining or bitching about anything.Hell if Hillary or Obama wins you willnot see me going into the GREAT depression that stuck you liberals when GW won fair and square the second time around.lol
Change, even if it is bad change is good as long as it doesn`t destroy America in its wake.

rwd

-Unparalleled destruction of our national identity.

"Hey! That's MY Mission Accomplished!"

-GW

He will beat Hillary because he will attract as many conservative Democrats as he will lose religious Republicans.

Rudy's got to get around the talibaptists in the Primaries before he gets to have his his ass kicked by Hillary.
Ain't gonna happen.

There have been redlight cams all over London for years, and it's the only city where I feel safe walking around alone at 3 in the morning.

Don't be. They neither reduce crime nor improve arrest rates. Ask the Brits.

This may be true, but I felt totally safe in London also...not so safe in Paris. I feel safe in NY, so go figure

I am a conservative and I will vote the "yellow dog" ticket.
I will vote for Hillary because I do want socialized medicine. I do want the D's choosing the next three Supreme Court justices.
I do not want any more religious zealots running the country.

I do not want any more religious zealots running the country.

That's the problem as I see it. Are there any centrist or libertarian Republicans out there anymore?

Or should I say are there any electable centrist or libertarian Republicans out there anymore?

are there any electable centrist or libertarian Republicans out there anymore?

Can you spell Ron Paul?

L. Ron Paul is too antiwar to be elected by Repubes.

Hey Corky
Off the topic, that bible code website was a good find. I gave them the name of my website to investigate. Hope they do it.

It is a remarkable phenomena.

"Phenomena" is the plural form - I think you want "phenomenon."

Jeebus, the grammar Nazis!

Perhaps I meant, "It is remarkable phenomena."

Not so much a problem of grammar, but of word usage.
