Republican presidential candidate Mitt Romney is scolding his party in a nationally broadcast ad Sunday and in an open letter to party leaders. "The blame, we must admit, does not belong to just one party," he states. "If we're going to change Washington, Republicans have to put our own house in order."

"We can't be like Democrats -- a party of big spending," he says in the ad and in his letter.

I guess that's one myth that will never die, much like "liberal media."

Not only is he Mormon, he's a critical Mormon. No Republican nomination for him. Maybe someone should tell him McCain has a black baby.

The big spending line is a DOOZIE !

A headline in today's paper say "Bush will request $200 billion more for the war".

Interesting that the prettiest/richest GOP candidate is polling 3rd.

Last week Mitt was calling Bin Laden delusional, oppossing Ahmandinejad's visit to the UN, and turning his back on a "black" debate (how many Republicans voting in the Iowa, New Hampshire and South Carolina primaries will be affected by that?) Now he is back on familiar ground attacking Washington itself. Is this pandering or positioning?

Remember, Mitt is not running for President at this time, he is running for the Republican party nomination. He can't let all the yahoos, warmongers and racists vote for Guiliani's nomination.

I doubt Mitt could even carry Utah

Oh I'm so glad that old hair-helmet is willing to look at the himself in the mirror. He might actually be better than scratch-n-sniff, Hanoi John, T&T, Brokenback and the rest of them altogether.

"If we're going to change Washington, Republicans have to put our own house in order."

Riiiight, Mitt -- big changes in Washington. Sure. Like that's going to happen when you already plan on picking Bush Crime Family (and PNAC) member Jeb Bush as VP on your Presidential ticket if you win the Republican primaries.

Who in the HELL is Mitt Romney to be criticizing other Republicans?

When his state's legislature saw to it that the civil rights of gays were brought to the same level as anyone else's, Ol' Mitt did his double God-damndest to get the issue put in front of voters, so that the "will of the people" might prevail.

Any fucking idiot who believes the civil rights of any group are to be decided upon by popular vote is in no position whatsoever to critique anyone, Republican or Democrat. If civil rights had been decided by vote in '64, Barack Obama might be a Capitol janitor today, but he certainly wouldn't be a Senator.

I honestly believe the Mormon issue is what will shoot Mitt down, and that's a shame, because it's religious prejudice that has no place in our electoral process. But any ladle's sweet that dishes out some gravy - at least this fundie cretin will not end up in the White House.

Mitt Romney as president will be as useless as George Bush.

Maybe not V.P. for obvious reasons (Bush fatigue) but Brother JEB will be in there somewhere pulling the strings . . . and watching the hen house like a fox.

"I honestly believe the Mormon issue is what will shoot Mitt down, and that's a shame, because it's religious prejudice that has no place in our electoral process."

Religious prejudice could mean attention to what that religion teaches. If it's that those who envision their deity as urging stoning and eternal damnation for those who see their deity differently, that might be a factor.

Mitt's religion offers Mrs. God, heaven for women being eternal pregnancy and a women's status in heaven predicated on her hubby's life achievements. That might be a factor too. herm

I've had plenty of religion from Dubya. All I need is a guy in the WH who believes in the planet Kolob to make the "C'mon, where's the camera" feeling complete.

I have a sad prediction for my DEM friends -- The GOPs will probably win the White House in '08.

As much as I would prefer a moderate to slightly left of center presidency that adheres to rule of law instead to the "GOP's political golden rule" (i.e., "who gives the gold gets to make the rules"), the average American won't buy the total package the DEMs are offering -- big government programs, higher taxes, and a weak will to win the GOP's War on terrorism.

It's a difficult process for the DEMs to master -- the mistakes are all the GOPs (Cheney and W's exactly), but they and the GOPs can easily campaign against DEM weakness, vacillation, and big-government ("tax and spend") image. In fact, all the GOPs need to do to score with 50.1% of the voters, is to put down the DEM proposals and indulge in character criticism. Therefore my prediction -- Any well-financed milquetoast GOP will be able to use this approach to defeat any DEM.
