Former mayor Rudy Giuliani was interrupted during his speech to the NRA by a ringing cell phone his own, reports CBS News' Ryan Corsaro and Scott Conroy. "It's my wife," he told the audience, and answered the call. "Hello dear, I'm talking to the NRA right now. Would you like to say hello?"

"Several members of the audience laughed at the exchange and applauded..."

Several out of several hundred. I saw the video playback on Tucker earlier. There was an excruciatingly awkward pause, a few nervous laughs, and an almost palpable "WTF was that" atmosphere.

According to Willie Geist, Rudy has used the same ploy in at least a couple of other speeches. Trying just a little too hard to be just a regular ol' family guy, eh Rudy?

Oh c'mon - my original "Phoney" Phamily Man headline was way better than this one. Although I'm sure Rob would appreciate the new one.

a nicely staged event... very good. But it only works once Rudy. I'm sure the other candidates wished they had thought of this one ..

Rudy Guiliani: Family Guy!

Is anybody buying into this crap?

Well... Anybody not on the koolaid?

Okay, here's a weird thought...

Maybe it's not a fake.

Maybe because Rudeboy is such a notorious pussyhound his newest wife aint taking no chances and has him on a short leash or sommat.

Unfettered telephone access to the Ghoul was prolly written into the pre-nup at her request before marrying Rudy.

Smart lady thinks Spud.

Well, except fer the marrying Rudy part, of course.

Be Well.

Tacky beyond belief.

But then the entire Giuliani campaign is way beyond belief.

Oh, courtesy of Boa, he had no idea she was his cousin!

Which wife is this? 3 or 4?

"Is anybody buying into this crap?"

Just the purveyors of the Rudy thong.

Hans

Wifey # 3,572?

a nicely staged event... very good. But it only works once Rudy.

How did it "work"? What was supposed to, or did, happen as a result of this call? I don't get it.

It was supposed to demonstrate that he was such a devoted family man, I guess. It was lame and it fell flat.

I'd pay big money to see one of rudy's two ex wives call next time.

What a fucking phony.

Goat- he's trying to play family man and score points with chicks who will think he's a great husband.

Why is the only GOP guy running for president that has one wife the mormon? WTF...

Rudy is, well, RUDE. He is disrespecting the people he was talking to by taking a call from his wife. I know, I know, he's wife was probably telling him the dry cleaners had his dress ready, but still, it's rude.

What a phoney set up deal.
Didn't the wife know her husband was speaking at the NRA that day? Don't they communicate? And why would he leave his cell phone on when he's giving a speech. Rudy has body guards right off stage. If there was an emergency the body guards could receive any calls from his immediate family and notify him on the stage.

He wants to play the devoted, the always available devoted family man and hubby with, which one is it now? Oh, yeah, wife numero tres.

The Romney campaign provided a YouTube link showing Giuliani doing the same thing at an event in June.

"It's my wife on the phone," Giuliani said to the crowd at a June 21 campaign stop in the heavily Cuban-American city of Hialeah, Florida. "I'll call you back," he continued. "OK, dear. I love you. Bye."
< Does he pull the "surprise" cell phone call from the devoted and adoring wife at every speech he gives? Give me a break. Phoney.

Why is the only GOP guy running for president that has one wife the mormon? WTF...

FF for you.

"I'd pay big money to see one of rudy's two ex wives call next time."

I am sure the reason they got divorce is due to the fact that he lookeb better in their dresses than they did. Jealous bitches!

Rudy is a phony, he had to mention the MoveOn.org ad to get any applause because the people weren't buyiing his bullshit.

Out of front runners for the GOP 3 out of 4 are on their second or third wives.

Let's look at democratic front runners

Joe Biden 1 wife
Hillary Clinton 1 wife(had to say it, sorry)
Christopher Dodd 2 wives
John Edwards 1 wife
Barack Obama 1 wife

Party of family values?

PS- In all fairness Kucinich has been married three times, but hasn't a shot in hell.

PS- In all fairness Kucinich has been married three times, but hasn't a shot in hell.

Spud'll give Dennis a pass there too.

Ya know wot they say...

Third times a charmer!

Mrs K is special, kay?

Be Well.

Why is the only GOP guy running for president that has one wife the mormon? WTF...

FF fer Alex.

...And even that one is creepy cos Mittens sed he knew "She was hot" back when she was only 15 yo and Mitt was 18.

Mittens, like Dickless Cheney afore him, married the first chick he found that was willing to give him a hand-job.

This don't impress Spud all that much.

Be Well.

What a phoney set up deal.
Didn't the wife know her husband was speaking at the NRA that day? Don't they communicate?

She's a very active part of his campaign. You can be sure he knows when he's scheduled to take his laxative, let alone when he's speaking to the NRA.

Obvious play to get the women thinking he's a great guy so they'll forget about his affairs or leaving his last wife via TV.

It's all a sitcom to Giuliani and the rest of them but the laugh track is broken and the audience is laughing at them not with them.

Of course if Hillary! had taken the same call all the Libs here would be on their knees blowing Clinton for her 'commitment' to family. (should that be licking? ---- ick!)

"Hillary! loves Bill and what's-her-name-the-campaign- prop too much to wait!"

It's really just silly politics, but since this is a blog full of rabid, partisan assholes, it must be called as Democrap Hypocricy.

3rd and 8!

Cynical and Lame?

Or just too stupid to turn his cell phone off before making a speech to one of the most important Republican base groups in the country?

Wow. Hard to pick the better scenario. Both make him sound mentally challenged.

This is a foolish political move that will be more likely to loose support then gain it. I don't see this helping Rudy to get the Republican nomination.*

*Note: I'm not a democrat either...

I sure the are coordinating which dresses they will wear together later.

Hey I wonder if those Rudy Thongs will come equipt with a cell Phone patch for when the Misses are out sleeping with another Man. They can appear to be a Family Woman Ya know.

Larry

Where's Bowa?

"Of course if Hillary! had taken the same call all the Libs here would be on their knees blowing Clinton for her 'commitment' to family."

No, it would have been equally lame. But thanks for once again proving you can't discuss even one single topic without reverting to a Clinton deflection.

Swing and a miss...

If Your wife calls during a Speech
Make Her have sex with Robin Leach.

Larry

The(Rudy) guy's not even a contender. Seems most of the people that believe him to be are libs.

Inc

You might wanta have a dialogue with Bowa.

The rest of us will sit back and enjoy.

Incubus-
Did I get that right? You think that Giuliani is not a serious contender for the nomination?

Ted-
Incubus-Bowa cage fight. I like the sound of that.

"The former Tennessee senator must be doing something right. A Gallup Poll conducted Sept. 14-16 showed Thompson in second place in the GOP field. He trailed former New York Mayor Rudy Giuliani 30 percent to 22 percent and led John McCain, 18 percent, and Mitt Romney, 7 percent.

"A Rasmussen Poll from Sept. 13-16 showed Thompson leading Giuliani 28 percent to 19 percent.

"Those numbers seem to knock down the speculation he waited too long to get into the race."
Free Republic

"A Rasmussen Poll from Sept. 13-16 showed Thompson leading Giuliani 28 percent to 19 percent.

I could find no such poll.

RealClearPolitics has a summary of all the polls:
www.realclearpolitics.com

Interestingly, if you click "General Election Head-to-Head" link at the top Hillary and Obama beat everyone.

Still, the point is that Thompson is not far behind Guiliani at a time when he just officially entered the race. Anything can happen by election time.

If I had to bet at this time, I would wage a small sum on Thompson.

Especially since those who seem to be under the impression that Giuliani is in the lead are "libs", according to Incubus Con.

"A Rasmussen Poll from Sept. 13-16 showed Thompson leading Giuliani 28 percent to 19 percent.

I also can find no such poll.

Ray-
re: Still, the point is that Thompson is not far behind Guiliani at a time when he just officially entered the race. Anything can happen by election time.

Still, the point is that I could find no poll that had Thompson ahead of Giuliani, as you stated.

Cooper
It's too early to make a big deal about it.

No more morons or actors for President.

We'll get a moron for president whether we like it or not.

Ray-
Polls aside, I tend to think that Thompson will get the nomination. Since the "authentic" Bush turned out to be an incompetent hack who's afraid of horses, the Republican party would now prefer an actor who can convincingly portray an "authentic" president. It's safer that way - you don't really have to believe, you just have to suspend disbelief.

As is often said about politics - perception is everything.

BTW Cheney's other daughter is one of his advisers. That should give you an idea of what we could expect from Thompson.

I must have got Bowa really mad- he takes my remark to him about his dubious assumptions about a student at an airport and brings them over here to insinuate I am insulting other posters.

Take the pill, Bowa

I must have got Bowa really mad- he takes my remark to him about his dubious assumptions about a student at an airport and brings them over here to insinuate I am insulting other posters.

Actually, sitdown I was posting your comment here to show how ridiculous and hypocritical it was.

You don't find anything wrong with "assumptions" per se. Only assumptions you do not agree with. And then, by your own admission, you dishonestly insult those posters who make assumptions you disagree with and pretend that it is the fact that I would dare make assumptions at all ("you have no right") that has you outraged.

My assumptions about that student's political leanings are far less dubious then the people here who are questioning Rudy's motivation, and I explained, based on the actions of the student and the political bent of the majority of students in leading colleges like MIT as to why my assumptions are in fact not dubious at all

Frankly, I think it fair to criticize Rudy for this phone call. And it is fair to assume a lot of contradictory things -- that he's "whipped", that this is some clumsy and "phony"political strategy to promote his "family values", or that he's just in one of those relationships where each person calls each other when they are about to get on a plane.

I think probably the latter is true. Because as a political strategy, stopping a speech to take a phone call from your wife is just a bonehead move and leaves the candidate open to all kinds of charges that he is either too "whipped" to be elected or is trying to callously and dishonestly engaging in a political ploy to manipulate the feelings of the electorate.

"the political bent of the majority of students in leading colleges like MIT"

Do you have any links with facts to back up that claim, or are you just making an assumption?

"Giuliani's proposal for endless Middle East wars on behalf of Israel

"In a rational world, Giuliani's call for Israel to join NATO would provoke major controversy rather than deafening silence.
Glenn Greenwald

"Sep. 21, 2007 | In London this week, Rudy Giuliani proposed what is probably the single most extremist policy of any major presidential candidate, certainly this year and perhaps in many years:

"Rudy Giuliani talked tough on Iran yesterday, proposing to expand NATO to include Israel and warning that if Iran's leaders go ahead with their goal to be a nuclear power "we will prevent it, or we will set them back five or 10 years." . . . ."

And of course your precious Rudy would never do such a thing.

Do yourself a favor, come here to NY and talk to NYers - even those who supported him - about what kind of a person they now think he is, and realize that he always was.

Mid,

BOWA is from NY !! I Would Say "LOST IN NY"

-Sarge

C'mon! It was cute, Rudy. Take a point. Take two. Now you'll probably lose by only about 55,235,789 to 17. herm

"And of course your precious Rudy would never do such a thing."

Next up from Lokisfur:

The Rudy thong with convenient cell phone holster.

Hans

I don't know about cell phones, but how did he know it was his wife before he took the phone out of his pocket, and before the ring tones started?

Are you serious? My guess would have to be Staten Island if in the city, or somewhere in western or central NY state. (There are also pockets of dead air on Long Island and in really upper crusty places in the various counties which form the commuter run into NYC from the 'burbs).

Whaddya say Bowa? Care to divulge (the truth!!)?

Do you have any links with facts to back up that claim, or are you just making an assumption?

I do danforth (Hint: Harvard has been polling college students around the country on their political leanings since 2000), but isn't the way it goes here that you have to prove me wrong. After all you are the one challenging my claim.

I mean, on more then one occassion when I have asked for "proof" -- that's what I was told, it was up to me to prove the assertion wrong. Which I usually take the time to do anyway. And then whoever I prove wrong usually deflects and just starts calling me names or making false accusations.

But, you are a smart guy Danforth, I'm sure that you should have no problem finding study after study showing that the majority of College Students at leading colleges like MIT, or the Ivy League are conservatives who are gung-ho about the "war on terror" So go for it.

Rudy is a fake. Pretending to support the NRA when he sued gun makers and supported many restrictions on guns. Oh, I almost forgot it was 9-11 that changed his mind.
It was 9-11 that made him get divorced.
It was 9-11 that made him keep his comb over.
His campaign is all, It was 9-11.
Dobson says Thompson is a moron. Must be Karma that the Repubs have no leading contender that rightwing Christians can support.

'm sure that you should have no problem finding study after study showing that the majority of College Students at leading colleges like MIT, or the Ivy League are conservatives who are gung-ho about the "war on terror" So go for it. Bowa

Of course they are, everyone is for the war on terror, just not the occupation of Iraq.
Where is the poll that say how many will enlist?
Do you know what gung-ho means, do they?
If they are so gung-ho why are they not enlisting?
They must have more important things to do than fight the war on terror.
You could say they are gung-ho as long as they do not have to do anything but go to school.
Hell, they even give gung-ho a bad name.

Is anyone buying this crap? someone asked above.

Yes, many women are wishing their men are openly affectionate. They like hearing endearing words.

Even if it is staged or scripted, many women who have not considered voting for him will give him a good consideration. A resistance layer has been peeled, and those who find no good choice among candidates will default toward Giuliani.

Guys may be skeptical, but to ladies it's magic.

Gee, nothing sexist about that remark.

Do yo think women won't judge or care about the sincerity of such things? You must be a real charmer.

What is the obsession with the three marriages, like he is different from alot of the population? Lots of people get married several times. I am my husband's third wife, he is my second husband, we have been married for 16 years and fully expect to be married for another 16. We all make mistakes, some make more than one, how does that make a person a less worthy candidate because he made a mistake in the marriage game? Damn what is it 30% of the population would be out of the politics race if that were the case.

Because Republicans preach about Family Values but have 3 or more wives sleep around with Your Mistress. basically make a mockery of what You are declaring a Family Values party when in truth it is so far from reality. It's the Hypocrisy of the whole thing. Me Personally I don't care if a Person has been married more than once. I ain't the one sleeping with em.

Larry

OMFG ROFLMMFAO Bwhahahahahah Oh My Northguy read that again and think about what You wrote Oh dear God almighty that was funny.

Larry

Now let's wait and see if any other candidate might script another movie role showing affection to the wife.

Bring her to a dance event --- make sure a beutiful bouquet is handed to her first --- then kiss --- then dance....

..... psst, make sure the press knows the schedule. Free ad.

Or in a fundraiser event, keep space in the front for dance, after all the speeches and drinks, bring out a hip music group to play .... and "SHALL WE DANCE"..... (Candidate please hire me to organise those feel good events).

But, you are a smart guy Danforth, I'm sure that you should have no problem finding study after study showing that the majority of College Students at leading colleges like MIT, or the Ivy League are conservatives who are gung-ho about the "war on terror" So go for it.

Which is it?

I mean those places are for "elitist liberal academia" right?

Damn, you assclowns need to get your stories straight. Just like when the right whines about "liberal Hollywood snobs" yet continually run actors for the presidency.

Which is it?

If nothing, your consistent with your inconsistencies.

I highly doubt there are very many Conservative places of Higher Learning because We all know Learning is Progressive and Conservatives are Regressive. See to have a place of Higher Learning one must be Progressive in their thinking and well conservatives are shit out of luck in THAT department. They would rather listen to talk radio and get Programmed to think.

Larry

I mean those places are for "elitist liberal academia" right?

They are. But Danforth seems to want to challenge that characterization. He seems to believe that there is plenty of proof to the contrary -- that Academia is populated primarily with right-wingers. So I asked him for proof.

They showed Guiliani pulling the same stunt a few weeks ago on FoxNews Sunday this morning.

Anyone with a lick of sense turns off their cellphone when they're going to speak. Has to be a stunt.

They commented that if he'd been smart he'd have had a holster and gun under his coat when he pulled it back to grab his phone.

Anyone with a lick of sense turns off their cellphone when they're going to speak. Has to be a stunt.

Or some agreement between the couple that they keep their cell phones on so they can call each other before they board a plane. Either way, if he's smart that's the last time he keeps his cell phone on during a speech.

They commented that if he'd been smart he'd have had a holster and gun under his coat when he pulled it back to grab his phone.

LOL, that's funny.

BOWA

Rudy's wife is a GOP operative. She knew very well where and at what time he'd be giving his speech.

It was a repeat stunt.

tacky.

on her part.

i'm a conservative, registered as "decline to state" - guiliani will NOT get my vote.
