The FBI, working with an Alaska oil contractor, secretly taped telephone calls with Sen. Ted Stevens as part of a public corruption sting, according to people close to the investigation.

hey maybe this secret wiretapping is a good thing!

hahahahaha

If it was done Illegally I want it thrown out. If done Legally I will be tickled to death.

Anything is good if it helps "your" side and hurts "their" side.

My bet is that the FBI had a warrant and the wire tap was perfectly legal. It's amazing that law enforcement can actually catch criminals and obey the constitution too. Some would have you believe it's impossible. We have more people in prison than any other nation yet we still respect the constitution, so apparently those who say you can't have security and a constitution too are full of crap.

Stevens is a U.S. citizen, living on U.S. soil and was a long-time suspect, involved in political payoffs.

Apparently DanniDrivel(tm) considers that equal to a non-citizen in Pakistan, using a cell phone to plot an imminent attack to kill people.

Did you hear that loud snap? It was Moral Equivalence strained to the breaking point.

it was a joke numbnuts-I get tickled pink by irony.

i would imagine that the wiretap was backed up by the most air tight court authorization imaginable.

How's the Jefferson thingy doing?

Seems that republicans tend to police their own ranks and expulse those found unfit while democrats vigorously keep justify and defend their criminals.

Murtha, Fienstien, Clinton, Clinton come to mind. The list is a very long one indeed.

BULLSHIT Incubus Con. I give You Tom DeLay and Mark Foley.

Larry

it was a joke numbnuts-I get tickled pink by irony.

I love irony too, obviously. Only I caught your joke. You didn't catch mine.

Better numb nuts than numb skull, I reckon.

"Seems that republicans tend to police their own ranks and expulse those found unfit..."

Oops:

Emerging from a week of seclusion and scandal linking him to a Washington escort service, Sen. David Vitter, R-Best Little Whorehouse in La., returns to his duties on Capitol Hill in Washington, Tuesday, July 17, 2007, as he sits in on a hearing of the Senate Commerce subcommittee on Air Operations.
Hans

Hey with a numb skull You at least have nothing to worry about cause Your brain is numb to reality. Maybe thatis what is affecting the Bushites right now.

Larry

Maybe.

murtha did something wrong? you mean when he declined the bribe?

""Seems that republicans tend to police their own ranks and expulse those found unfit while democrats vigorously keep justify and defend their criminals.""

Er...INCUBUS...pssst.....Ted STevens is still serving in the Senate....if they are going to "expulse" him they better get at it.

murtha did something wrong? you mean when he declined the bribe?

Only the most extreme apologists think that's all that happened. "I'm not interested right now". Yeah, he was innocent.

your joke was not ironic, unless you meant to say that I dont believe in the double standard.

lesson on irony-OFF

your joke was not ironic

(geez, do I have to explain this, too?)

It was irony in that a lot of people are against the illegal wire taps. But some of those same people would be for them if it helped "their team". Get it?

no your is an example of hypocrisy

IRONY is the use of words to express something different from and often opposite to their literal meaning.

your words were very clear and direct in accusing some of hypocrisy, there was NO opposite to the literal meaning.

The literal meaning of your words is that some people apply a double standard, unless you are saying that some are NOT hypocritical.

Here is an example of irony.

I had a wonderful weekend. (when in REALITY i worked all weekend, got in a car accident and my wife left me). I used WORDS to express something but as IRONY they imply the exact opposite.

Ted STevens is still serving in the Senate....if they are going to "expulse" him they better get at it.

Without due process? Without a long trial? So far it's only an accusation.

Why are you always ready to trash the Constitution when it's a Republican in the spotlight?

Vernon is a robot. Same shit over and over.

""Why are you always ready to trash the Constitution when it's a Republican in the spotlight?""

Vernon don't put words in my mouth, I didn't call for him to be "expulsed." INCUBUS said that Republicans tend to police their own ranks. All I'm saying is that Sen. Stevens appears to need some Republican "policing." If you want him to continue serving it's fine with me, just more corruption to add to the REpublican Culture of.

I don't live in Alaska. And I'm not a Republican.

I find all politicians equally repulsive. Those who have not been busted have only been clever enough, so far, to not get caught.

It's fools like you who think that one party has all the virtue and the other is full of vice. You are only setting up yourself to have to eat it later.

Vernon is a robot. Same shit over and over.

What a completely mindless, and mis-placed, attempt at an insult. You just spew nonsense automatically, don't you?

""I find all politicians equally repulsive. Those who have not been busted have only been clever enough, so far, to not get caught.""

Gee Vernon, that's a pretty broad charge which I think is not even close to true. I'm cynical but not so cynical that I don't think some politicians are honest and dedicated. I don't know if I would say most are but definitely some are.

Seems to me that 'sarcasm' is saying one thing ('Boy did I have a GREAT weakend' when you meant 'the weakend really blew')
An example of Irony is the guy who shouts support for an institution which ironically is the same institution which leads to his undoing.(The thief who drives the getaway car with a "support your local police" bumper sticker while he is running away from said police.
Get it?

And I'm not a Republican.....

Of course you are not a republican because if you were you wouldn't be lapping up every single drop of scum that comes out of this administartion. True republicans know that they have been betrayed by Bush and Co. Every core value of the Republican party has been trashed and now we are all looking for "reasonable" alternatives which may end up being a democrat because the candidates that pass themselves off as Republicans are only interested in continuing the sad state of affairs in which we now find ourselves.

Sarcasm is hurtful, comes from the root word for tearing flesh. Lots of comments on this blog are sarcastic. Some sarcasm is ironic, it is always hurtful and disrespecting.

Irony is the root of most humor, the juxtaposition of incompatible logic. Like "reasonable Republican."

I don't live in Alaska. And I'm not a Republican.

People here in my town are referring to themselves as Independents... when it is common knowledge that they are Republicans... hee hee !

And I wonder what it would take to elect a Dem senator in dumb ass Alaska ?

""And I'm not a Republican..... ""

It's getting harder and harder to find any Republicans. I think REpublican ought to be added to the endangered species list.
They may be extinct before my grandchildren grow up and they will never get to see one.
Perhaps we should put a few in zoos.

It's getting harder and harder to find any Republicans.

You are looking in the wrong places. Almost everyone I work with is one.

Wonder why. You work on an oil rig and big oil owns this Republican White House.

Yes, everyone sits around and talks about owning Bush and WDC and running the world. It makes all those dumb Mississippi boys from Wayne County really big headed. I gotta bring 'em down to Earth once in a while.

*grin* to your retort, Goat

""Almost everyone I work with is one.""

Myopic view. Truth is the REpublican Party is shriiiinking!!!

If you look at any endangered species it is the same, the individual family groups still surround each other with members of the same species, it's just that there are fewer and fewer of those groups.

And then there is the embarrassment factor.

Puscubus Is Wrong Again !!

Does It Hurt To Not Know What The Hell You Are Talking About All The Damn Time, Plus Being A Yellow Ass Coward Pussy Chicken Hawk ?

-Sarge

When it comes to money, no political group has a monopoly on shady practices or unethical individuals. Personal greed transcends Party affiliation. That being said, the Senator in this instance deserves the criminal presumption of innocence. And until evidence is presented to his colleagues in the appropriate forum, everyone should avoid passing judgment. (Which does not mean that individuals cannot form their own opinions and vote accordingly.)

It's getting harder and harder to find any Republicans.

You are right and wrong, Danni..

The Republican party is shrinking. You are right about that for now. But you are wrong if you think I have a myopic view. It is you who has the myopic view.

There are cycles to everything. Some are as short as the vibration of the quartz crystal in your watch and are measured in nanoseconds. Some are as long as the rotation of our galaxy and are measured in hundreds of millions of years. Somewhere in between we fall.

We see cycles of political changes from the left and then to the right. We see economic cylces of booms and busts. On a larger scale we see cycles of warmth and ice ages. Only a truly myopic person ignores these cycles. Only a fool will gloat because "their" party is rising. Only a chicken little will declare the world is coming to an end because of they experience the bottom of an economic cycle.

So no, Danni, it is not I who is myopic. It is you. I can see the big picture. You see things for the moment.

Quit gloating and take off the blinders. Learn about these cycles. The universe is a much richer place than you can see with them on.

The rules against wiretapping should apply to all except Republican legislators. And any eavesdropper who focuses on a Republican for an hour without finding sin ought to be suspended two weeks without pay. herm

Incubus_ The Republicans tried to amend House ethics rules to allow an indicted Tom Delay to continue to be Leader. Seems they wanted no Republican demoted until they had their appeal decided by SCOTUS or a pardon decision made by the President- something that would run the clock for years.
If you remember in the Jefferson case, his biggest defender was some fat guy named Hastert.
