Philadelphia Eagles star Donovan McNabb says black quarterbacks face greater scrutiny than their white counterparts. In an interview on HBO's "Real Sports with Bryant Gumbel" to be broadcast Tuesday, McNabb said black quarterbacks "have to do a little bit extra" because there are relatively few of them, adding "people didn't want us to play this position."

yeah, Philly is upset with you because you're black... it has nothing to do with you choking in the super bowl, being horribly inaccurate, not running anymore, the T.O. situation, and being more injury prone then "Mr. Glass" in M Night Shyamalan's Unbreakable...

there was another thread that had more comments then the blog I posted... But I'm an Eagles season ticket holder so the thread is mine...

I'm watching the Real Sports Episode now... his interview just finished up... I agree McNabb gets more criticism then he deserves. Limbaugh, the NAACP, Eagles fans booing him on draft day (I grew up near Syracuse and saw him many times in the carrier dome, so I was stoked when they drafted him), were all completely unwarranted... But this interview smacks of one thing, an excuse. An excuse for if he ends up going the same route that Daunte Culpepper went down after his knee injury. This way he can say, I'm not struggling, I just have a more powerful microscope above me.

McNabb was my favorite player for a long time, but injuries have struck, I think he's a bit of a prima dona, and I hate that our team can't have anyone that might take over as the marquee player, like terrell owens (And when has Philly ever gone after a top offensive free agent? We're moderately under the cap... we could get someone). I think McNabb is a great guy, but I pay $1,600 a year for tickets to see the Eagles hopefully win a Super Bowl... I don't think that's going to happen with Don... but I hope I'm wrong.

Yeah, if Bret Farvre shot, drowned, and hanged his fighting dogs nobody would say shit...right man?
But let a black QB do it and everybody is all up in his business... Solid...just another way the man is keepin a brother down.

I wouldn't totally write us off yet either... we started 0-2 before and then went 12-4 to finish the year.

This is the one area where Pro beats College... you can lose 5,6,7 games and still end up the champion...

Why the need to play it up? Limbaugh went on ESPN and said that McNabb is given a pass by commentators and sports writers because they want to see a Black quarterback excel.

It was a fucked up comment, and he resigned the next week...

Listen Mcnab is an old quaterback who's been around.
there is no doubt that 15-20 years ago some black athletes, at some point in their college of professional carreer, were shuttled into certain positions because of their race. I dont think you will find a football player who will deny this. Now add in the Rush comment a year ago

so give the guy a break

Archie Manning, Frank Tarkenton, Danny White would all agree!

The quarterback is 9 times out of 10 the leader of the team. The quarterback could be blue, purple or green- if you throw high, too far behind, drop the ball, you are going to catch shit. HELLO!?!?!

White quarterbacks do have an edge with owning higher quality fighting dogs, McNabb is right there!

KNACK!

We're talking Philadelphia here.

They booed Santa Claus for crying out loud.

Shut up and win, Donovan.

That is the only thing that will shut the Philly battery chuckers up.

But I'm an Eagles season ticket holder so the thread is mine...

Is the waiting list long for those?

I've got season tickets to the Broncos. Mine have been in the family for around 35 years. Otherwise, they're almost impossible to get. But you can still get tickets to most individual games without much trouble, if you want to pay for them.

Sorry about last night. I had Philly in the pool.

WELCOME TO THE BIG LEAGUES

u wanted to be QB

and being more injury prone then "Mr. Glass" in M Night Shyamalan's Unbreakable...

ROFL. McNabb is such a douchebag.

SHUT UP AND PLAY BALL. DON`T BE SUCH A BIG BABY...

The NFL is full of black quarterbacks. It unfortunate, but McNabb can't hit the broad side of a barn; never could. The sportscaster have their biases, among them are black quarterbacks, Notre Dame, and the little ten, or should I call it the little eleven? Penn State hasn't field a good team since joining that group of weak sisters.

Vince Young is gonna be killer.

Tell it to Rex Grossman. Does he get a free pass for his dreadful play because of his pasty complexion. When he sucks he hears about it from the media and fans just like McNabb does so it is apparent that Donovan needs to grow a thicker skin.

This is just whining. Here in Detroit, we had a quarterback here named Joey Harrington. The amount of abuse he endured was about as bad as it can get.

McNabb has a history of whining. He whined in the TO situation. He whined when he got hurt and Sassy Jeff got them to the playoffs. Rush Limbaugh gave him another opportunity to whine.

Complete more wide open 10 yard touchdown passes, and have less whining diatribes.

Harrington earned the abuse by spending more effort talking about how he wasn't going to suck in the future...

Than playing. The guy's feet froze to the ground when he got the ball. Last week he got sacked 6 times in one game. Fuck Joey, I'm glad he's someone elses problem now.

The amount of abuse he endured was about as bad as it can get.

Think again. He's still alive isn't he?

McNabb's been hanging around Jessie Jackson and Sharpton too much, he is using Race as a catch all phrase and its a excuse for any and everything. Grow up, get a real Job. what a loser.

look.....sports is a place where the color issue is probably as unimportant as in any other place.

you win, you're okay
you lose, you're shit

I didnt see the show but did he say anything at all about the two times that he had a reciever so open that I COULD HAVE GOTTEN THEM THE BALL and he apparently choked???????????

I would guess that he didnt........

TEXANS UPDATE>.

mario williams SILL HAS MORE TD"S than reggie bush

and he is fact approaching a higher number of 'wins' as vince young........who will NEVER WIN A SUPER BOWEL,........not as long as he is looking to run first and then throw......

in a little east texas town I taught in a while back, they were a world class football town with 4 state championships to their credit and the qb was black and the son of a leading black lady in the community...

when the coach benched him because he didnt get the job done and replaced him with a white qb, the mom tried to pay all of the black players 200 a piece to quit the team........
they saw that the black qb wasnt working and stayed.....and they won the state championship that year.....I guess mcnabb would have stayed with the black qb and lost.

sports, at least now, is much less about color than almost any other part of society......except for music, I am proud to say...........

who will NEVER WIN A SUPER BOWEL..

I have a Super Bowel. You should have seen the super dump I took last night.

Black everything geets more scrutiny. From Black secretaries to Black executives. It's america's way.

Thats right everyone(only minorities included in this), when people are on your back, you are not performing and the going gets rough, PLAY THE RACE CARD!!!! Thats RIGHT PLAY THE RACE CARD!!!

Guaranteed to shut your critics up because if they keep talking they will be seen as racist. ACT now and you even get an AL SHARPTON Bobble-head as a free gift..

The philly enquirer had a story last spring I think about how ridiculous the waiting list is. No one is giving up their seats so its like a decades long wait at this point. That's only because they've been good for the past 7 years or so... every team goes through down turns... eventually (maybe already) they will be terrible again and people will opt not to rebuy. Not me though... I'm keeping these tickets forever, even though we are likely moving from Philly in a few years.

Same in Philly that you can get tickets to just about any game... I sell a couple every year, and usually buy the playoff tickets and resell them at an astronomical price (But I never sell to the opposing fans)... Philly fans will pretty much pay anything.

And no worries on the other night... if they're terrible then we may get someone really good in the draft for once, and a couple years ago they started 0-2 and then finished 12-4... you never know with this sport. Its the greatest game, ever...

In McNabb's defense though, he didn't start the race nonsense and in some ways he is right...

When Peyton Manning runs for a first down White people don't start questioning his racial loyalty like the NAACP questioned McNabb's "Blackness" for sitting in the pocket and throwing. I thought that was much worse then the Limbaugh issue, and in last night's interview McNabb seemed to think the same thing.

I wish McNabb wasn't unlucky when it came to injuries and the Eagles management had done a better job of putting people around him... I think he could have been one of the greatest ever to play.

has nothing to do with the fact that McNabb is a gimp that lost 6 of the last 7 games he started...

ask John Gruden if hes happy with his QB play.

lets see...limbaugh says mcnabb dont get criticism cause he black
now mcnabb sayin he get criticism cause he black

HUH?
does anyone else see the hypocrisy?
that being said
the ONLY time mcnabb had a good WR TO philly went to the super bowl so in some respects i blame andy reid and the philly staff for not getting some good WR's for mcnabb

Daunte Stallworth last year was a great fit for this organization...

But to your point, yes blame the Eagles management for losing TO who I loved until he went to Dallas, but also know that Donovan was a big part of that decision too... Donovan didn't stand up for his #1 guy, and he didn't really get along with him. The Eagles management aren't going to keep a guy who is making trouble for the face of their organization.

I think we could do a lot better at the coaching position and at General Manager.

Oh Here we go..Time for all the excuses, He's losing so it must be racism..For the love of God!!! So I guess when Rush Limbaugh stated that the press wants to see a black succeed so they get more scrutiny, it is racism, But when MCNabb starts to wonder the same thing as to why he is a disaster (which has more to do with the fact he is the walking wounded). It is a "thoughtful: conclusion...This country and it's whiny victocrats suck..

I think he is 30.

Athletes are shuttled into their positions to WIN. I think you will find plently of players who will deny this.

I would have to check but Rush's comments were more like 3 years ago.

Is McNabb playing the race card out of convenience and frustration now that his play and his team are down?

I think he's putting it out there to try and lesson the criticism that may come if he has the same type of comeback from knee surgery that Culpepper had. He comes back, he never fully recovers and plays terrible, but now there are people that will point to the criticism of his play and say, "Well he's right you don't talk about Carson Palmer like that." Well Carson Palmer has done really well since coming back from his knee injury so maybe that's the reason...

McNabb was badly out played Monday night by the Washington quarterback - who was black.

mCNABB?

I THOUGHT HE WAS IRISH!
