There is nothing overtly or covertly racialist about the GOP contenders for the title of Ruler of the Free World His Exellency Most Plenipotentially not wanting to debate at the venue specified. It's at night, in a dodgy part of town, and not safe, especially for people of their ethnic persuasion. There are many fine country clubs or armories where the debate could have been scheduled and you can be sure the Republicans would have made themselves available in such locales.

Remember, Abraham Lincoln was a Republican and the slave holders were Democrats. Not much has changed in the intervening centuries.

Blacks have been voting for the Democrats for years and years, with nothing to show for it. For some reason, every election season has the Dems making the same promises. Why would you continue to vote for the same party if the promises are never kept? It is beyond comprehension.

So, why the blacks continue to vote for the party that wants to keep them in poverty is a mystery. I don't understand it. Many blacks are still dependant on government for their everyday substinance. I agree in regards to the candidates in question. However your analogy isn't perfect. The Dems, as a party, shunned FOX as a debate venue. At least some of the Republican candidates are showing up for this.

Katherine Harris, the former Florida Secretary of State, upheld the rights of the voters by stopping the selective hand recounts. The selective hand recounts were happening only in the counties where the Democrats, and not the Republicans, might find more votes.

New Orleans, a city populated by minorities who elected a helpless Democrat mayor. A city who had years to improve the levies, but did nothing. A city where school buses could have been used to carry the people out of Katrina's wrath, but instead were kept dorment, eventually becoming flooded.

As a black Republican I completely understand why GOP candidates are shunning black forums. Why bother? Black Republicans will vote Republican and everyone else (70+%) will vote Democrat.

I have never met one racist Republican but plenty of racist Dems. The reason why Dems support affirmative action is grounded in racism. They feel that black sare inferior and unable to compete with whites. Dems DON'T support affirmative action for minorities like Asians for instance because they are considered smart but apparently blacks are dumb to Dems. Republicans believe that blacks can compete with Whites if they gave the effort. I grew up in an all back section 8 apartment complex and most blacks did not give a rats but about academics.

Republicans like George H.W. Bush put the ONLY black man on the Supreme Court. Carter and Clinton never tried. George W. I certainly agree that the Democrats are guilty of taking African-Americans for granted and that African-Americans are often their own worse enemies. Who needs George W. Bush when you have William Jefferson and Ray Nagin? It still doesn't alter the fact that Republicans have cynically and deliberately used racial politics ever since Nixon's Southern strategy to target the racist Democrat South in the 60's and turn them Republican. Just why do you think the South is so overwhelmingly Republican these days? They all believe in traditional fiscally responsible Republicanism and staying out of foreign entanglements? Perhaps we could draw an analogy with the support the Republicans have traditionally enjoyed from the military when we talk of voting blocs being taken for granted. But maybe in the age of George W. African-Americans have figured out who is at worst neutral and who is at best neutral to their interests and they vote somewhere in the region of 90% Democrat, not UTA's 70%. When I think about George W. Glad that my life experiences have nudged me politically left of center. Glad that I find it impossible not to regard the aforementioned as evidence of a deep-seated moral and intellectual decay mixed with a very unattractive arrogance, jingoism and hubris. Not so much pride riding for a fall as a positive invitation to be whacked upside the head by nemesis. An invitation that will surely be accepted November next year.

So why am I not glad? Probably because even more than democratic parliamentary systems our particular system of government needs a reasonable ebb and flow between competing philosophies each of which modifies the other to keep it from getting out of line. Nothing could be further from that ideal than the arrogant way Bush has operated because he had unassailable majority support for so long in Congress and it's been bad for the country. Put the Democrats in with a similar majority which is the natural backlash against Bush and even though it couldn't possibly be as bad as his eight years of cronyism, corruption and scarcely credible incompetence mixed with stupidity, vindictiveness and hubris it's still not desirable.

In the final analysis I can live with it for a few years, though. Anything to see the back of that horrible human being and president and his handlers and cronies.

Of course Republicans avoid blacks. The typical voting rightwingers hate niggers (even though they rarely admit it).

Wise up. Cheney said it himself - "I only need 51%". Of course, he neglected to add that they only need that 51% support on 1 day every 2 years.

Republicans don't think holding office is about serving the public interest. It's just about exercising power. They don't care about anyone who won't vote for them, and the black vote is just too much trouble. Therefore, why waste any time talking to you. It's not like it matters to them what you think - they're not going to deviate from their agenda for your benefit anyway. The whole point of Republican governance is that your government owes you nothing, you're just supposed to shut the fuck up and do as you're told.
