I am in deep mourning over this loss. He was a great writer and I have been a fan of his work since the first book of the "Wheel of Time" series came out. Where Tolkien used many words to say something simple, Robert Jordan was a master at conveying complex ideas with just a few words.

He will be greatly missed.

DAMN IT He never finished the series. I read 11 books and now it's over!

Man that stinks I knew he was sick and was working to finish but darn it.

I never knew him but a couple of my friends had been to fantasy shows (yes we are all dorks) and had a chance to talk with him and said he was a pretty down to earth guy considering his success. I will miss him.

Yes, he was a VERY down to earth guy.

I am not giving up hope for that. He had been working on the next book for a while and right now only his publisher and family knows how close he was to completing it. Supposedly this next book was to be the last in the series and the last book came out about 2 years ago. It is very possible that this book was just going through the editing process.

Either way, whether it gets finished or not, this remains the loss of a fantastic author that could easily be listed among the all-time great masters of the fantasy genre.

Agree 100%.

I hope your right and in a few months we hear about the impending release, but if your not I still got great enjoyment out of 1-11.

This was from his cousin just last week on Robert Jordan's official blog:

Epilog: Yes he is continuing to work through all of this medical calamity. MOL (MoomanFL: A Memory of Light was/is to be the name of the final book) is going into the word processor and onto audio tapes almost daily. Not every day mind you, because the medical fight takes first priority. But, he told you he'd finish and he will. Fact is that it has been finished in his head for years. During a recent family sit around, he became the Gleeman and told the bones of it ALL to Harriet and me. You read that right, I did say ALL. Don't ask, ain't telling. Two and a half hours of story telling by the Creator himself went by in the twinkling of an eye. Truly magical. All I can say is WOW! Best stuff he's ever done. MOL is going to knock your socks off! That's a promise.

This was today's entry. RIP, Robert Jordan.

Sometimes even when you've fought your best ... .

It is with great sadness that I tell you that the Dragon is gone. RJ left us today at 2:45 PM. He fought a valiant fight against this most horrid disease. In the end, he left peacefully and in no pain. In the years he had fought this, he taught me much about living and about facing death. He never waivered in his faith, nor questioned our God's timing. I could not possibly be more proud of anyone. I am eternally grateful for the time that I had with him on this earth and look forward to our reunion, though as I told him this afternoon, not yet. I love you bubba.

Our beloved Harriet was at his side through the entire fight and to the end. The last words from his mouth were to tell her that he loved her.

Thank each and everyone of you for your prayers and support through this ordeal. He knew you were there. Harriet reminded him today that she was very proud of the many lives he had touched through his work. We've all felt the love that you've been sending my brother/cousin. Please keep it coming as our Harriet could use the support.

Jason will be posting funeral arrangements.

My sincerest thanks.

Peace and Light be with each of you,

Wilson

To Catalyst: Never, never loose faith. RJ did not. Harriet hasn't. I haven't. Going through what we have, our faith is only strengthened. Besides, if God didn't exist, we would have never had Jim. We did. God does. Remember my Brother/Cousin, my friend, think of him fondly and glorify God's name.

Editor's Note:
The entire staff of Dragonmount.com would like to extend its most deepest sympathies to Robert Jordan's family. He touched all of our lives in some way and we wish him the rest and peace he deserves. We will be posting information in the near future about where you can send condolences. Please check the News Section for these updates.

It is indeed a sad day.

I have read Jordan series, got my daughter started on them and she has em all.

Great with Character development and the thought process within social societal situations and politics.

Never got into his Wheel of Time works... My attention span is too short. I did however, enjoy his Conan books.

An inspired writer whose craft was displayed on every page, Robert Jordon was always in top form, a powerful storyteller who could write book after book in the same series without once boring his reader and always leaving him impatiently waiting for the next story.

David Eddings, Terry Brooks, and others joined Jordon in creating Fantasy series that captured the imagination of America.

Rest in Peace. You have a new audience.

All this talk about God and stuff should make many on the DR come by here and condemn him.....perhaps DanniDrivel(TM) gets the satisfaction of getting him on her HOPE he dies list....too bad DanniDrivel(TM)the family said he went peacefully.....not with a lot of pain that you so often HOPE people have.

He was one of the all time great writers. We will miss him.
