OK people I have a question for you:

If a foreign army invaded the U.S. and there were American "allying" themselves with this army would you not consider them colaborators or traitors? Now, I realized they used the phrase "al-Qaeda in Iraq" against any Sunni that takes up arms against the U.S. so isn't it natural that they would kill traitors?

isn't it natural that they would kill traitors?

Of course
Did the resistance not execute collaborators during WWII in Europe ?

Yes, the French Resistance, which is conveniently forgotten to perpetuate the stereotype of the French surrendering.

Problem is al queda does not represent Iraq. A terrorist organisation has no business destroying the nation there anyway. Eliminating this plague will be good for Iraq, which many Sunnis came to realize, though a bit late. Still there is hope.

The story says it is a suspected Al Qaeda fighter believed to be responsible so it may or may not have been Al Qaeda who killed this collaborating sheikh. Might just as easily been a rival sheikh or the Shiites. There's open season on collaborators in Iraq.

Al Qaeda has no business being in Iraq any more than a nation invading Iraq pre-emptively for reasons later shown to be bullshit, much of it coming from corrupt and untrustworthy Iraqi exiles such as Chalabi. Especially one with no post-invasion plan except wishful thinking based on what those same exiles were telling them.

Bush's invasion allowed the insurgency to develop because his incompetent cronies and loyalists in the Green Zone threw hundreds of thousands of Iraqis out of work by disbanding the Iraqi army and enforcing de-Baathification at all levels. They failed to secure arms dumps, allowed looting and criminality to take hold which further fueled the insurgency.

The lack of a post-invasion plan and competent people to implement anything useful for Iraq resulted in the infrastructure collapsing while the insurgency morphed into a murderous religion-based civil war. Our troops were caught in the middle with both sides taking every opportunity to kill them too, including this sheikh who has now been killed for switching sides and collaborating with us. As if that wasn't bad enough Al Qaeda was allowed to infiltrate Iraq and they joined in the killing, especially of American troops.

Meanwhile back in the Green Zone the contractors were making a killing of a diffeenet kind and the cronies and loyalists were instituting a flat tax, passing anti-smoking laws and putting an anti-abortion evangelical wackoid with no experience in charge of public health. There were regular Bible classes too. Later the person in charge of this farce was presented with the Presidential Medal of Freedom by Bush.

Oh my god ...al qaida did this....

lol right ( well maybe but:)

"As a report in Time described him,

"Sheikh Sattar, whose tribe is notorious for highway banditry, is also building a personal militia, loyal not to the Iraqi government but only to him. Other tribes -- even those who want no truck with terrorists -- complain they are being forced to kowtow to him. Those who refuse risk being branded as friends of al-Qaeda and tossed in jail, or worse. In Baghdad, government delight at the Anbar Front's impact on al-Qaeda is tempered by concern that the Marines have unwittingly turned Sheikh Sattar into a warlord who will turn the province into his personal fiefdom.

"In June, Abu Risha's position in the Anbar Salvation Council came under a fairly intense internal challenge. As the Washington Post reported at the time,

"Ali Hatem Ali Suleiman, 35, a leader of the Dulaim confederation, the largest tribal organization in Anbar, said that the Anbar Salvation Council would be dissolved because of growing internal dissatisfaction over its cooperation with U.S. soldiers and the behavior of the council's most prominent member, Abdul Sattar Abu Risha. Suleiman called Abu Risha a "traitor" who "sells his beliefs, his religion and his people for money."

"That's our guy. That's the pillar of America's Sunni strategy, and a key player in Fred Kagan's fantasy life."

I vaguely remember a bbc report that had this shiek being killed by his "buddies" because he was stealing parts of their cut of the pie....

But I am sure the bush admin would never try to sell us an inaccurate account of such a story....

lol

Was this really Al-Queda? Here's the rub. Those who refuse risk being branded as friends of al-Qaeda and tossed in jail, or worse.

So Bush's best bud in Anbar is a real douche, with a history of using the Al-Queda label as a threat. And when he's killed, of course the killer is a member of Al-Queda.

Sorry, the whole thing is fishy. Whomever is going to replace Sattar and lead his personal army is going to want to curry favor with Washington, to continue the bribes, and so they toss us a bone.
A Sunni disident wrapped up in an Al-Queda bow.

They're just using us now, we're being played for suckers. Look at our great Sunni ally:
is also building a personal militia, loyal not to the Iraqi government but only to him

If that's our best friend in the region, it's time to leave.

oh man, does this mean the insurgency and chaos is over with?

The real issue is that Bush's success in the region was depended on one man and he is no longer there. Those before him were all killed and it was a miracle that he lasted this long. Talk about a house of cards. The wind is blowing GW, you better step aside.

OJ arrest announced in Vegas.

Arrest announced in the killing of a Sunni ally.

Is there some unspoken connection?

Perhaps that sports memor...junk were the WMDs?

WWDJ?

Curious minds want to know.
