Republican presidential candidate Fred Thompson said Thursday he doesn't know enough about efforts by President Bush and Congress to keep Terri Schiavo alive to have an opinion on the right-to-die case that stirred national debate.

He doesn't remember?

Does he remember how Bush flew back early from his vacation to sign "emergency legislation"....

.....but New Orleans sat underwater for days before Bush left his vacation.

Priorities.

He has an opinion but won't express it. He's a chicken shit......

I think we are going to be hearing a lot of "no opinion on that" responses from Fred.

At least he seems to understand the questions, unlike the last Republican candidate for President.

What a wuss.
How can you have NO opinion on a case like that?
My opinion was that Terry Schiavo's husband had no right to take her feeding tube and water away from her as she was not in pain -- and I got clobbered on here for my views on that subject. I don't care and I still believe that. But at least I had an opinion.

maybe he just forgot his opinion. Oh wait, he's not running for AG.

Translation: If I tell the truth, it'll get me in even more trouble with the Leviticus Lobby, who are already pissed at me for admitting I don't go to church regularly.

"he doesn't know enough"

Oh, great...all we need, another incurious President.

He has an opinion but won't express it. He's a chicken shit......

No Opinion,

question that even the courts cannot answer.

I'm not sure about Fred--I prefer Rudy right now. I'll have to see.

I would like to see a Republican take CA and NY if Rudy is the nominee. That would be purrrfect.

Murphy

"Thompson: No Opinion on Schiavo Case"

He should have came out and said he would have pulled Life Support 15 years ago. He may have captured a few Democratic votes.

If you can't hold your liquor, you shouldn't drink and blog.

Hey sniper, that's my opinion......if you don't like it tough beans kiddo.

Trees

I'd like to think Sniper was funnin' with us.

Now, Fred appears to have made a mistake in declaring that he is a candidate.

What's that saying? Better to have others think of you as a fool, than to open your mouth and remove all doubt.

It's spelled "grammar" -- I couldn't help myself - *grin*

"Like so many on this post that just snipe at other posters because of bad gramer or spelling."

They willingly volunteer this.

Don't have to make up a single thing.

Hans

Yeah, just what we need -- ol' Rudy whose private law firm is representing the Spain consortium who's building the NAFTA Superhighway for the NAU so Bush can merge our country with Mexico and Canada.
NO THANKS.

Thompson: No Opinion on Schiavo Case

Fred has no opinion because he wasn't on "Law & Order" yet when they did an episode that dealt with the legal issues around that case.

The super highway is going to be built in the next 16 months??

Murphy

wow,
what a BS answer

You call yourself "sniper", then whine about people "sniping"?

Ummm...sure.

Empty suits rarely have opinions.

The empty suit is Obama.

The courts answered. She was dead.

The empty suit is Obama.

I disagree.

Empty suits don't take politically risky positions.

And when Obama called for the immediate withdrawal of all U.S. combat brigades from Iraq, with the pullout being completed by the end of next year, he proved he was no "empty suit".

While I completely disagree with Obama on this issue, I can't help but admire the man.

He is all in and going for broke and that alone is refreshing.

I am quite sure that Obama didn't get "focus groups" or a battery of high-paid consultants to tell him how to spin and massage this issue to appeal to the maximum number of voters without leaving him open to attack by his Democratic opponents as well as the GOP.

He just went for it.

And while Petraeus, and his hopeful report, has the whole Democratic party disillusioned and beaten into accepting that the war will continue till Bush leaves office, here comes Obama unequivocally calling for the immediate withdrawal of all U.S. combat brigades" from Iraq.

LOL

Talk about throwing down the gauntlet to his fellow democrats.

Let's see Hillary spin her way out of this.

She's the empty suit to watch out for.

So Wizgod sayz:"Thompson: No Opinion on Schiavo Case"

He should have came out and said he would have pulled Life Support 15 years ago. He may have captured a few Democratic votes.

Considering that she had only half a brain... it would have been the right decision... unless of course you think being a human throw pillow is something to strive for.

Wow. They just don't make actor/politicians like they used to, huh?

Ooooooooooooo .................

Fred refuses to take the stale bait of a story that's been dead for years.

How about the tea tax? Imports of slaves from Africa? Womens' suffrage? Temperance? (Kennedy heritage)

The best part is how desperate the Left is to find SOMETHING oh dear god please ANYTHING to hang a scandal story upon. Abortion? Gas Mileage? ANWR? Retail Strip Centers in West Virginia?

Dear God Please, Anything?

Losers

desperate?
losers?

you should be taking a long look at the right when using words like that vernon

Doem it's that Bush Lemming Juice that is making the Right Wretch so. They don't know whether to shit or go blind it hurts them so badly so very badly. I would hate to be them 20 Years from now. I am sure they will be on the floor wailing and Gnashing their collective teeth. I really should feel sorry for them but I don't. They have made their beds now they can wallow in them. I say Be Brave Bushites Be Brave cause it's only going to get worse for them.

The empty suit has been sitting in the White house for the past six and a half years.

So you prefer Giuliani?

Good to see some people are still suckered by fear.

Ankles up!

Fred Thompson does have an opinion about Terry Schiavo, he thinks that a person with her mental ability ought to be president.
Obama might be the first black man
Hillary might be the first woman
Thompson would be the first vegetable.

(Cheesey, Cheesey)
(This is a song about vegetables, they keep ya regular
They're real good for yo)

Call any vegetable Call it by name
Call one today When you get off the train
Call any vegetable And the chances are good
Aw, The vegetable will respond to you

(Some people don't go for prunes...I
don't know, I've always found that if they...)
Call any vegetable Pick up your phone
Think of a vegetable Lonely at home
Call any vegetable And the chances are good
That a vegetable will *respond* to you

Rutabaga, Rutabaga,
Rutabaga, Rutabaga,
Rutabay-y-y-y...

(A prune isn't really a vegetable...
CABBAGE is a vegetable...)

No one will know
If you don't want to let them know
No one will know
'Less it's you that might tell them so
Call and they'll come to you
Covered with dew
Vegetables dream, Of responding to you

Standing there shiny and proud by your side
Holding your hand while the neighbors decide
Why is a vegetable something to hide

-Zappa

That's the Thompson campaign song.

"Fred Thompson said Thursday he doesn't know enough about efforts by President Bush and Congress to keep Terri Schiavo alive to have an opinion on the right-to-die case that stirred national debate"

YEAH!

I'm not surprised, most drunks have poor memories! He probably needs to be reminded what year it is every morning!

This is just an example of how parrots think. The same thing was said of Reagan. Yep, he really pressed the button didn't he. Nope, instead the Soviet Union dismantled and the threat and aimed missiles lessened.

Thompson would be the first vegetable.

Hmmm, and vegetables should die (and painfully) to further your sick satisfactions DanniDrivel(TM)?

Thompson is slick, I'll give him that, but he's not as slick as he thinks he is, nor as bright.

He's already said some things that are going to cause the religious end of the right to distance themselves from him. This isn't a smart move.

He's trying to play to a middle that, as it stands at the moment, is trying to keep the Republicans at a distance because of the last several years. His somewhat "crotchety" demeanor isn't endearing him, either.

It seems to me that he was having a strong showing before his declaration because he could just sit back and not actually have to say much. Now that he's being pressed to answer questions, he's having some trouble.

""Nope, instead the Soviet Union dismantled and the threat and aimed missiles lessened.""

Just keep repeating the mythology about Saint Ronnie. Belief in propaganda indicates a lack of intellectual curiosity.

You're right dan, the big bear is more of a threat than it has ever been.

You're right dan, the big bear is more of a threat than it has ever been.

Well, bears are just as dangerous as ever.

Thompson: The military or nuclear option or whatever certainly should be the last thing to be considered. There are an awful lot of good things that can happen between now and then, but there are no options that can be taken off the table of a country that's intent on becoming dangerous to us and the rest of the world forever.

HANNITY: So that means that America must have a plan and prepare for possible military action if they're on the verge of getting nuclear weapons?

THOMPSON: Yes."

So thompson feels that the Shrivo case is too complicated for him to form a n opinion, yet he feels that he has all the information he needs to justify a military action, including the use of nuclear weapons, against iran"

you should read the news you fool

Doem, your desperate attempt at categorizing me is a pathetic, loser's position. I take a long, hard look at every point of view. And the Left comes up short every time.

This thread is a perfect example. Thompson does not have to have an opinion on the Schiavo case. It's done. Over. Finished. I find Thompson amusing because he will annoy the hell out of clowns like you.

The fact that he was asked such a stupid thing only reveals that he is being baited into a pre-fab 'right-to-life' argument. The only purpose of that is desperation. Romney and Rudy have already been painted.

The only thing the Left has now to muster the faithful is the Holy Sacrament of abortion. Last week your goons tried to bait Thompson on abortion, and this week it's Terri Schiavo. Next week it will be the death penalty.

Losers.

Vernon: "Doem, your desperate attempt at categorizing me is a pathetic, loser's position. I take a long, hard look at every point of view. And the Left comes up short every time."

Bill'Orielly, is that you?

I ask that vernon, because thats what Bill Orielly says on his show, and we all know he falls in lock step with the Bush Co on about 98.5% of the issues, just like you have...

look harder vernon

"So thompson feels that the Shrivo case is too complicated for him to form a n opinion,..."

Perhaps, like me, he didn't think it was an issue that should have such a national impact. It just should have remained an issue to be settled in Florida. Having decided that, I kinda dismissed it.

It's sort of amazing to see all of the TightRight Skunksniffers deflecting from one of your beloved base's "important issues". Of course it's because now you're all afeared that the "social issue hot buttons" are gonna bite you on the tushy. Buy stock in Preparation H and some soft chair cushions girls, it's gonna be a long, hot summer.

Weird how rebublicans can't remember the Shiavo case anymore. It must have been another large group ranting like lunatics and ligislating a single state case.

Remember this? Shiavo is alive and well. She is comunicating to us through her stares. I guess the video diagnosis Dr. and Santorum are out now. They were the main ones pushing this.

""Doem, your desperate attempt at categorizing me is a pathetic, loser's position. I take a long, hard look at every point of view. And the Left comes up short every time.""

Who knew Vernon was a comedian and a right wing nut too????

Vernon's right. Due to compassionate funding from compassionate conservatives everywhere, Terry Schiavo was the last person who will ever be kept around in a vegetative state; probably the last person who will ever be seriously ill actually. Likewise, due to the keen decisions of the usually unanimous Supreme Court of this, God's Greatest Country, the types of issues raised by the Sciavo case will also never, ever, ever come up again. So why should we bother to figure out Thompson's world view on these types of issues? Shouldn't we ask about something more interesting, say, who his favorite Nascar driver is?

"Fred refuses to take the stale bait of a story that's been dead for years."

I agree I think the public needs to know his opinion on serious current issues that are facing this nation and the world, I do not believe his opinion about a woman who has been dead for sometime now is going to change anything.

""say, who his favorite Nascar driver is?""

I bet he has an opinion about that tough I seriously doubt he really watches Nascar.
He is really a Washington lobbyist, attorney who pretends to be a good old boy...sort of like a pretend cowboy I'm thinking of.

And the righties predictably invoke Hillary, Russia and for all I know, Tamerlane. It's the deflection hour in all American time zones. Vitter's in, Craig (Gonzales, Rove, Bush and others) are out, so to speak, and Senator Fred is on the fence waving his bride's boobs at America. He knows that NOTHING he says about Terry Schaivo can do him good. herm

I'm not a fan but I have to say "Good for Thompson" on this one.

This Schiavo thing should never have been a national issue. Media sensationalism brought it to the public's attention so national politicians felt the need to pander to their "base" by weighing in.

It isn't the job of the other two branches of government to interfere with the courts on private matters such as these. There are much bigger issues for those branches to worry about. Thompson is not seeking a position where his opinion on this matters.

Why anyone would criticize Thompson for staying above the fray on this one is beyond my comprehension. The people asking him these questions are just trying to exploit an emotioal issue to dumb down national debate. The public should be sick of such bullshit.

Sully

Well said

Sully - I agree, sort of.

Instead of just saying "I don't know enough about it to have an opinion," he should have said "It isn't the job of the President or Congress to interfere with the courts on private matters such as these. There are much bigger issues for us to worry about. I am not seeking a position where my personal opinion on this matters."

If he would have said the latter, I would agree, good for him. But, he pussed out instead so I can't join you patting him on the back.

Jeeze, I thought they did a Law & Order on Schaivo. Is Thompson headless?

It really says something that the spirited defense from the Right is that he's just lying for the sake of politics. Ignorance is really their preferred defense, isn't it?

Is Thompson headless?

Was that a Warren Zevon reference?

Spud luffs that
song

In the new age of the corporate warrior the song is worth listenig to again fer a lot of reasons.

Be Well.

PS: Truly gone now.

"If he would have said the latter, I would agree, good for him. But, he pussed out instead so I can't join you patting him on the back."

Arrogant people don't feel the need to explain themselves.

But he still did a much better job answering the question than the fools who take the bait every time.

"This Schiavo thing should never have been a national issue."

Agreed, Sully (omigawd, I've lost it), but who made it a national issue? Insidiolus Republican pols courting the Great Unwashed Religious Right's basest prejudices. They MIGHT have let this poor vegetable go in peace. herm

I have a feeling it is going to be Hillary against Thompson a year from now.

Cheers

Grendel-
You're probably right, and I suppose we deserve it.
