A man who for 12 years served as head of the Virginia chapter of the ACLU received seven years in prison for downloading what authorities said was some of the "most abhorrent" child pornography they have ever seen.

And the Republicans say they have nothing in common with the ACLU!

I'm guessing this guy will have a hard time arguing free speech in the prison shower.

No pity for this guy. I doubt a single supporter of the ACLU will even attempt to justify this guy`s behavior. At least he is not an elected politician who has been outspoken in denouncing individual sexual proclivities.

to put an Orwellian spin on it:

All perverts are equal, but some perverts are more equal than other.

Well An Elected Official Has The Power To Make Laws, Shape Public Policy And Is A Representative Of Constitutes.

That Makes Pretty Good Sense To Me, Damn No Wonder Bush Is President !!

Please Think ! Just Because He Doesn't Before He Speaks That Doesn't Mean You Can't !

Sucks. For him.

Moder 8,

That was in response to :

I Fully Support Your View.

Since he was affiliated with the ACLU, it's a pretty good bet that he wasn't a Republican, so we have to add this incident to the Democrat or Libertarian portions of the ledger.

But - it should be noted that Virginia is one of the reddest of red states, and therefore that good ol' repressive Republican influence could be at the bottom of this. Living in the land of "Do as I say, not as I do," for long enough could warp even the most upstanding among us.

Do I feel the hot, sulfurous breath of rightisright on the back of my neck?

It has to be someone else's fault. He bears no personal responsibility. He's a liberal

Is anyone surprised that an exec with the anti-AmericanCLU that does everything in its power to protect child molesters' rights would be one himself.

Hopefully even the densest of GOP apologists out there can understand the difference between the implications of the behavior of an elected official and a private citizen,

7 years, that's it? Should be a life sentence.

But then again, prisoners don't take kindly to the pervs who like kids. It might be a life sentence in the end.

No Mary. That's your 4:45.

"No Mary. That's your 4:45."

See rightisright. See the bait. See rightisright rise to the bait. See rightisright rise to the bait every time. It is fun. Fun, fun, fun.

Here is a new word, children. It is a very big word. The very big word is "predictable". We should use it in a sentence. "rightisright is very predictable." Aren't big words fun? Fun, fun, fun.

Oh, and Goatman - someone with your name ought to be able to figure out when a goat is being gotten...

Oh, and Goatman - someone with your name ought to be able to figure out when a goat is being gotten...

We goats are ignorant. You'll have to show me where mine was gotten. I missed it.

Hey Charley R-T, Bubba is gonna git yo white ass, sucka

Is anyone really surprised?

ACLU and child porn go hand in hand!

I think that the arrest and prosecution of a person for "downloading" and/or "viewing" pornography is reprehensible, and a misuse of community resources. It wasn't too long ago that "Lady Chatterley's Lover" was banned. Punishing people for what they read, view, or think is an unwarranted intrusion upon the close of that person, and the State should back off.

As someone indicated, those who favor acting out as opposed to viewing such material should have rallied to this man's support. Where are NAMBLA and the Guyon Society?

We have a picture of a policeman, whose vocation is behaving as a homosexual to entice people to make sexual propositions to him. I wonder if his avocation, spare time activities also involve associations wit homosexual men. Are his sexual proposals ever consummated? Does that make him "queer," or is he excluded from that category since despite his proclivities and actions, he's a government employee. What draws a man into that type of work?

I find the intrusion of the State in either case to be something that should be opposed as an infringement on our liberties.

Here many of you oppose listening in on the phone conversations of terrorists trying to kill us, and somehow find nothing wrong with the intrusion of the State into monitoring private thought and behavior that is not intended to harm anyone. Something is amiss.

It has to be someone else's fault. He bears no personal responsibility. He's a liberal

Isn't that the standard Republican credo whenever they're caught with their pants down? It's the media's fault, or the pressures of fending off the librul hordes, or the cops' fault, never their own failings?

Of course, a Republican would have immediately gone to a weekend religious retreat, "found Jayzuzz" and been forgiven by his fellow GOPpers.

Here many of you oppose listening in on the phone conversations of terrorists trying to kill us,

Johnson, if you check the statistics, the government is spending about 99.999% of its listening time listening in on law abiding citizens, not the terrorists that have you hiding under your bed. And the issue isn't listening in, its listening in without a reason. It's that stupid habeus corpus those islamofascist Founding Fathers stuck in the Constitution.

It has to be someone else's fault. He bears no personal responsibility. He's a liberal

Isn't that the standard Republican credo whenever they're caught with their pants down? It's the media's fault, or the pressures of fending off the librul hordes, or the cops' fault, never their own failings?

Yes, the Republicans overuse that excuse as well. They do it on a personal basis -- as when one is caught with their pants down. The liberals seem to do it as a matter of policy in general.

I don't know how to make it clearer. Sorry.

Goatman-
re: I don't know how to make it clearer. Sorry.

That means you don't know what you're saying, which I suppose is what I was sort of getting at. You were just repeating a tired line without thought intervening.

It really annoys me when anyone uses phrases such as "Republicans are all....", or "conservatives are all...", or "the libs are..." without the awareness of their absurdity.

Comments such as these have all the intellectual content of the blink of an eye.

Agreed cooper. The generalizations can get tiresome.

And the Cooper's Goatman obsession begins its nightly run

That means you don't know what you're saying, which I suppose is what I was sort of getting at. You were just repeating a tired line without thought intervening.

I guess the people that you heard ad nauseam (sic) on the radio and TV don't know what they're saying, either. I don't feel so bad.

It doesn't matter anyway, does it, Cooper? Like always, you'd put your twist on it and turn it into a big contrived affair.

Later, loser.

goatman-
No obsession. You just often happen to be one of the few posters on when I am. But it's clear that you were just repeating some piece of tripe that has no coherent meaning beyond a series of "dittos" and grunts.

But whatever. I guess I'm used to it by now.

BTW, anyone-
What did I say to Goatman to make him cower and snarl like an abused dog whenever I say ANYTHING?

I don't know, Cooper. (By the way, I was just kidding around the other night when I put up as a gag that picture of Laurel kissing Hardy on the cheek -- face cheek, by the way *grin* - when Goatman was saying you were obsessed with him.) You two guys are on opposite ends of the political viewpoint but both of you seem to enjoy a good, spirited debate. Maybe it initially got off on the wrong foot. I've done that myself with people on here and found later I liked hearing their viewpoints after I got to know them more.

When I first had Goatman call me out on some thread when he first got on DR and he was telling to me "prove this" and "prove that" I was ready to break my keyboard over his head but then I got to know his style and him via the rest of his posts day after day and now have some interesting discussions. It sort of takes time to get the different various poster personalities sorted out. But that's what makes it interesting. Sometimes this place reminds of a virtual reincarnation of "Animal House" :)

CC-
I didn't even see it, but FF anyway.

re: You two guys are on opposite ends of the political viewpoint but both of you seem to enjoy a good, spirited debate.

He doesn't. But I think it's more that he doesn't like losing. (not that I don't lose in debates here..I often do, but he seems to have positioned himself as the all-seeing all-knowing centrist and moderate - that rare creature of the perfect balance of food and wine, and yet any shot to the weak knee is regarded as some cardinal foul)

BTW, anyone-
What did I say to Goatman to make him cower and snarl like an abused dog whenever I say ANYTHING?

Cooper --

Oh, and had a laugh when you said you were perplexed as to why Goatman wasn't more receptive when you say "anything" but then you ask the question as you describe him acting "like a cower and abused dog"

-- errr, maybe always making those descriptive characteristics might have something to do with him being pissed off? hahahahaha found that amusing

What did I say to Goatman to make him cower and snarl like an abused dog whenever I say ANYTHING?
when you fuck him let me know

It's not so much that I cower and snarl, I avoid childlike people and debates.

It would be obvious from my trying to pound into your head a couple of nights ago that I don't like childish posts, but it seems you may have forgotten that, so here are a few of the reasons I avoid your questions:

when you fuck him let me know

I assume that you think the founders of our constitution were petty children, and that only your pant-pissing self is capable of reason.

If you wiped your ass with the constitution and it cured your colon problems, would it be worth it?

Goatman, what powers should the executive not have even when you are pissing your pants?

The way you see it is fucked up.

Besides that you either play stupid and pretend you don't understand what I say or you do understand and you are trolling. Or it could be that you are so much smarter than I am. Or maybe I am just too simple minded to talk to someone of your intellect. Whatever the reasons, what's the point in getting into it with you? It ends up in the same place -- a long, contrived dead end.

Also, I was very put off by your little "tests" you tried to give me and Zat. If you don't believe what I say, just say so. I don't care to take your little tests.

Aside from these things, I don't mind conversing with you.

Oh geeze, speak of the devil hahahahaha look who's here

You seem to. Maybe we have a difference in humor, as I don't find adolescent deaths from a heroin mix edifying, and you do.

Yep -- having a hell of a night. Gantry crane down. Rig floor squawk box down. Satellite down. On top of that a bunch of Brazilian IT guys installing a new system for Petrobras whose hands I have to hold.

Right now I just got down from the top of the crane and am waiting for my warehouseman to find me a new encoder for it. HOpe it takes him a while. I'm tired.

On top of all this, I have to stay up until my relief flies in on the helicopter which will be about 1 PM tomorrow -- er later today.

No I don't, actually.

I don't expect anyone to feel sorry for me when I die of a heart attack because I've voluntarily filled my veins with cholesterol. Why should I feel sorry for a kid who fills his with heroin? Boo hoo. society made him do it.

Add to the list in my previous post that I don't like people putting words in my mouth.

When you are in international waters (or Brazilian waters?) which country rules how the work is done (new systems, where you drill, how you drill, and stuff) -- the country with sovereignty over where you are located at the time or does your oil rig become it's own "sovereign nation" so to speak?

Who decides which rules and regulations to follow and if your boss is some multinational group then do they call the shots themselves and not the U.S. or Brazil or wherever?
He who owns the rig rules the roost?

My apologies.

Congrads on getting off the rig manana !! I hope your vacation is everything you hoped it would be.

If you do get to Ensenada just don't eat too many worms at Hussong's Cantina. Makes the next day with a hangover a real bitch if you know what I mean.

Also, if you guys happen to get stopped by the cops in Mexico, do what I did and ask them if THEY"LL take the $20 fine to the station when their shift is over, and how much you'd appreciate it if they did LOL If they ask what you do for a living, as they usually do in determining the fine, tell them you're unemployed.

It was a pleasure meeting you online and I'll look forward to chatting with you when you get back to this site.

Have fun man !!

:-)

Congrads on getting off the rig manana !!

no, no -- "A" crew gets off tomorrow. My crew, "B" crew gets off on Thursday. But what's a couple of more days when compared to over 5 weeks, you know?

re $20 thingy: You don't go to jail for bribery? I know once I paid a $50 "fine" to a cop in Tijuana when I was in the Navy. I was young and dumb and the victim of an obvious setup. I bought some pot from someone in a bar. The second he left a cop showed up and said he "saw" the transaction. He told me it would cost $50 fine to stay out of jail. My friends and I pooled our money. Lesson learned the hard way.

I've been to Mazatlan, but flew there. Never had trouble with cops, but that seemed like a pretty touristy place.

The "roost ruler" isn't the country, it is the company that leases our rig regardless of what country we are in. We were working for BP, but they subleased us to Petrobras -- the Brazilian oil company.

When you say rules and regulations, I reckon you mean laws? We have to abide by the local laws when in territorial waters. When in international waters, we go by the laws of the country that we are flagged under. Our rigged is flagged under the Marshall Islands. Don't ask me why -- I'm sure it's some sort of tax thing.

My company is an American company out of Houston (most drilling companies are) so we go by whatever corporate policies they have.

Got my part. Now I'm on my way back to the top of the crane. I hate it up there. Standing on a catwalk grating looking over 100 feet down and a lot of wind tonight. I'm safe, though. regulations make me wear a safety harness.

"e $20 thingy: You don't go to jail for bribery?"

No. First you let HIM tell you what the 'fine' is. THEN you ask him if he'll take the fine to the station for you as you have to meet friends in Ensenada or something.

Just remember if you do get pulled over to tell the cop you're collecting unemployment or something so your 'fine' stays in the $20 range LOL You probably won't get pulled over though anyway.

I definitely wouldn't buy any pot down there these days. Wait 'til you get back home.

Just remember if you do get pulled over to tell the cop you're collecting unemployment or something so your 'fine' stays in the $20 range LOL You probably won't get pulled over though anyway.

When in Mexico never keep more money in your actual wallet than the amount you want to hand over to the traffic cop. Keep the rest elsewhere on your person or in your car when you're driving 'cause whatever money is visible in your wallet to the cop "magically" becomes the amount of your traffic fine.

Goat --

Thanks for taking the time to answer the questions. Be careful up there.

Goatman

Mazatlan is definitely touristy. If you do want to go down to the 'Mexican Riviera' on one of your breaks, I'd recommend Puerto Vallarta. Better than Mazatlan, and not nearly as crowded as say, Acapulco. Relatively small town, but big enough to have a great time.

A great place to stay there is the Tropicana Hotel downtown. It's right on the water and where the Mexican tourists stay. Very reasonable rates ($30 a night last time I went), huge rooms, balconies overlooking the beach, a pool, etc. It's also walking distance from everywhere.

The gringo tourist hotels are all a mile north of town, and you have to take a cab to get anywhere. Only a couple of bucks though if you're more inclined to stay in one of them. Some really neat restaurants up on the mountains above town with sweeping views and outdoor dining if you choose.

If you ever decide to try the Cozumel thing (a lot better than Cancun) I have a friend in nearby Merida, who has lots of friends on Cozumel who can set you up like a king in a good place for cheap.

OK that's my tourist thing for now. Talk to you later man

Goat

If that was Goatman, how come there aren't any horns coming out the top of the safety helmet? LOL

PS Mom's back to normal. Sleeping more, but I'm sure that'll pass to as her immune system comes back to normal. I cooked her salmon tonight in my special honey sauce. She cleaned her plate. So, I know she's getting better

GOATMAN

Posted you a couple things above. Chris is right too. Keep $24 in your wallet - 2 $10's and 4 singles. You may not get pulled over anyway if your car's too dirty.

Left ya a couple of posts above if you didn't see them already

At least he is not an elected politician who has been outspoken in denouncing individual sexual proclivities.
No, he just abuses the court system to protect those who participate in the explotation of others.

Living in the land of "Do as I say, not as I do," for long enough could warp even the most upstanding among us.
Pass the buck. They made me do it. Sound like MaryTylerWhore is nothing but an apologist for deviants.

Mike Vick will get worse punishment than this pervert. And many think he should.

Another dark day for 1st amendment libs everywhere. BWAAAAHHAAHAHAHHAHA!

DIDDLIBERALS UNITE!!!

Liberal Europe has lowered consensual romance to 12 years of age; while the US is 18, and uses this bar to effectively go after celebrities and the creeps. Protestant America is not ready to relax this standard.

But ACLU might be bidding for time to do away with this child protection law too. Exposing this child-porn ACLU guy is a step backward for ACLU.

That 18 year old actress who had a nude photo of her posted on 'net should tell her publicist to announce that since it was taken when she was under-age, anyone with it downloaded on their computer committing a crime by having it there. Ought to scare a bunch of people away from that sh*t!

anybody know why this guy is "ex ACLU", did he quit, was he fired, why "Former ACLU"

just curious.

sexual deviants should be castrated (chemically)

Put him away forever. As for the ACLU, it is not a liberal organization. Ask Bob Barr.

And Rush Limpdick.

"My conduct in paying the producers of this material is reprehensible. I am filled with contrition, remorse and shame."

Is he for real?

Paying the people?

How about the fact that he helps contribute to the demand for this shit, which fucks up kids lives, often forever.

Jail him and send him to general population. If anyone has seen Lockup on MSNBC, you know what happens to those shit bags.

I'm guessing this guy will have a hard time arguing free speech in the prison shower.

Ah, Goatboy, you're sweet. Stupid, but sweet. You thought my post was something for you to discuss, didn't you? Let me explain, s-l-o-w-l-y and carefully.

rightisright is a very, very conservative guy with a kneejerk reaction to anything liberal. Sooo, I was baiting him by saying that being around Republicans was probably what made this ACLU guy do what he did, because it's such fun to make rightisright foam at the mouth. Very, very seldom do you get as much bang for the buck as when you bait rightisright. It's a rare and precious thing to find someone more easily inflamed than your average hemorrhoid.

And then you chimed in, not spotting the bait at all, in spite of rightisright's name being right there for you to see.

How does it feel to be the Retort's very own Kelso?

Good.

Kiddie porn and child molesters are disgusting sickos that need to be removed from society.

I cannot believe some of the things I have read. Especially the post about relaxing the age of consent (to 12 of all ages). Look, the reason we have these laws is because children actually cannot form a rational decision about sex. They do not understand the consequences or implications of sexual activity. What is wrong with you? I don't know if 18 is old enough to make a rational decision but that is the legal age of adulthood. I hope this man is punished to the full extent. He has contributed to the denegration and destruction of innocent children just by looking at and paying for child porn. I hope the man burns in hell.

Please don't take this the wrong way. I will preclude this with the standard, what he did was horible, he should be prosecuted fully, etc etc.

But on to Big's post. I think its a real problem that we have pushed back "adulthood" as far as we have in this country. We have 16 and 17 year olds that we shield from all things sexual, and then have national Countdowns to when celebrity girls turn 18.

Mixxed messages run rampant in this culture.

ACLU and child porn go hand in hand!

Posted by YouKnewWho at

uh....I am not so sure thats its hand in hand..

yuk yuk...

but again more proof......when the left can say nothing but......oh its just the people who are 'hypocritical'.........

again.....if they went after the behavior, they would have to have some standards and the left believes in NO standards,or at least they dont want to worry about hurting the feelings of some pervert........they would also have a sizable number of votes to worry about from liberal voters......

This is absolutely disgusting. There is no defense of this. I don't really care about the rest of the world but in this country you are not an adult until you are 18. We have laws in this country that we are expected to follow. I do believe that what two consenting adults do in their bedroom is not my business but this creep was going after children. Yes I can joke about resent events Vitter, Craig and the like but when it comes to kids there is no dense.

ACLU and child porn go hand in hand!

just like Republicans and public bathroom blow jobs go co*k in mouth

absolutely on track........

to rob some youngter of their innocence in some states is being looked at in terms of capital punishment.......

too bad people like nambla who are supported by the aclu and some leftists dont think that way......

as some have joked here, put them in with the right people in prison and see what they say.....of course I guess you always run the chance of them enjoying it........

now stuart.......a guy cant help it if he has a wide stance when he goes into a public shitter in the airport.......
and is that going to be the next "victims pool"...people with 'wide stances' cant be descriminated against.................ha ha

I cant help it this whole thing just makes me sick.. I don't give a crap if a 22 year old dress up as a school girl for her boyfriend or if some grown man likes to wear a diaper(funny by the way) as long as they are adults themselves and both people are into it its none of my business.

"But on to Big's post. I think its a real problem that we have pushed back "adulthood" as far as we have in this country. We have 16 and 17 year old that we shield from all things sexual,"

I think that is a little misleading to say that kids are shielded from all things sexual is not true. Just look at TV, movies, music. Kids are having sex weather people like it or not which is why I believe in teaching safe sex. At the very least explaining to a 16 -17 year old what a condom does(like they don't know by that age) I just can not defend a grown man going after a 16-17 year old. You may or may not be surprised to learn that the sexual countdown you are referring too maybe starting as early as middle school and is over before they get out of highschool. There is a reason we are adults and they are not there yet and we are the ones who are suppost to know better.
