The Michigan Wolverines, ranked No. 5 in the preseason Associated Press poll, lost to a Div. I-AA opponent this afternoon before a packed house in Ann Arbor. Appalachian State, the two-time defending Div. I-AA champion, got a 24-yard field goal by Julian Rauchis with 26 seconds left to give the Mountaineers an improbable 34-32 victory.

I was born at the University of Michigan Hospital, studied there, love the Maze and Blue, and yet I think this is great. More power to the underdogs of the world.

Wooooollllvveeerrriiinneess!

(Sorry, Spud's watched 'Red Dawn' waaay too many times)

Be Well.

Wow, what a shitty way to start the season. Even if they win out, goodbye National Champsionship. They'll have to scrap like hell to even be considered fot the Rose Bowl.

greatest sport in the world...

Amen, A-Hole. I may feel differently if Oklahoma lays half a hundred on my alma mater in around 2 hours.

Hail to the losers valiant. And go, Cal Bears, beat Tennessee. herm

Right now Notre Dame has their hands full with Georgia Tech.

Same here with FSU on Monday night, but I'm hoping paying Jimbo Fisher, Rick Tricket and Chuck Amato a combined $450,046,003/day will help us to at least break 14 points a game....

V-Tech almost lost to ECU too... LSU is gonna work them over.

I hate preseason polls...

Especially this time of year. They have no idea and are just guessing.

I love saving the Sunday sports pages at thi time of year and then looking at them again in Feb. They're lucky if they hit 20%.

Actually I finally got a laptop and I'm in the TV room watching. It's cool to be able chat while watching the game.

What a freakin' dumbass!

So they're a two time champion in I-AA and they just put up 34 points to win against a major Div I-A team... should they move up to Division I-A? Seems like they should be able to at least be respectable in one of the lesser conferences...

Holy crap Wake Forrest sucks...

I bet Lloyd Carr wishes he could switch places with Larry Craig before this week is over.

Holy Crap! Who won the ACC last year dumb ass?

Oh Yeah. Michigan can run the fucking table and they still have no business in the BCS title game.

They choked on their cupcake.

The South rules the gridiron.

No Rose Bowl for you Big Blue!

Notre Dame will win 5 games this year tops.

Shit Amato left State for FSU.

Damn I need to follow this more closely. Well there goes a half decent record this year for NCSU, but then again thats nothing new.

Lessee, it's 35-0 midway thru the 2nd quarter......

better than my East Texas State U. alm mater, though, which is now an Texas A&M campus.

How humiliating. It's like being in a bad Aggie joke.

My replacement team is the 'Horns, having lived several years in Austin.

Oops, I think the Sooners just scored again.....

Watching Cal-Tenn now, which looks interesting.

Oops, I think the Sooners scored again.

Oops.....

The South rules the gridiron.

Nod.

It's always fun to see the Big 10 et al crazies get all worked up about their respective teams.

Check their schedules and they play one or two tough games a season, yet they're always in the running for the National Championship. Hey...didn't a bunch of you guys say Florida had no business being in it last year?

Won a cup of coffee off of that one.

Sooners 49-0........

at the half.

ah corky.....somehow I knew you were a friggin aggie...............hee hee.

yes I know it was east texas then but its a and m now......and that makes you a

AGGIE.....................HA HA HA HA HA H AHA HA HA

ah yes this takes me back to late 80's....

in a football stadium in east texas filled with spectators......not for game but marching contest.....and the smallest group there finished 3 after prelims and regrettably slipped to 4th after finals........AND YET.....they cheered and hugged and partied as if they had won because there were only 80 of them.....MAX and all of the others were in the highest classification and the next highest number of players was 225...........

and just like boise state? oklahoma.........

and the small town in indiana.....( who had a player that went on to be an administrator in this school district and has a school named after him.)

and david slung the stone and slew the philistine......

you just HAVE TO LOVE THIS SHIT>.......

and right now there are mucky mucks in hollywood figuring out who plays who............

Holy Crap! Who won the ACC last year dumb ass?

Oh Yeah.

Oh, I forgot that last season never ended, no one left for the draft and no seniors graduated... and I totally forgot that no one else took notice of Wake Forrests success and planned for it, and I completely forgot that no one else got any better.

Thank you for reminding me that even severely retarded apes can use a keyboard Itsme. I had forgotten that too before your post...

Yeah, passing up college sure was the right call Itsy...

Sooners 70-10........ but it's still early in the Fourth.

I'm thinking Green Machine comeback!

One, Notre Dame, man y'all watched "Rudy" too much: 3 to 33 bitches Ramblin' Wreck. Two, it's very American to celebrate the underdog as we should, and it may sound idealistic, but it inspires hope that the hick from North Carolina can beat the rich kid from the North (sorry its some post CW getting through) but in reality its a ploy by John Edwards to keep his name in the race. Shit that sounded convaluted, please forgive me ;).

I attended the game.

It was arguably the worst performance I've ever witnessed at the Big House.

From coaching, to offensive execuation, to defensive execution, to special teams.....

The Big Blue sucked ass!

We knew their defense would be suspect, given all of the players that were lost, but the offense was impotent as well!

The whole game was surreal (in a bad way).

I am still having difficulty swallowing, and processing this game.

College ball is a strange and unpredictable game, but what I saw on the field was disturbing. As it stands right now, I see 5, maybe 6 losses for this Michigan team; if today is any indicator.

It's not THAT uncommon for an underdog to nearly up-end a premiere team - I remember San Diego State nearly toppling the Buckeyes a couple of years ago. The crucial difference being, the Buckeyes found a way to win - today, Michigan didn't.

PS - Props to Apalaichan State for a gutsy game.

Appalachian State has to guard against a letdown next week when their opponent is Lenoir-Rhyne.Lol.

Best I-AA team the last two years caught Michigan napping...Great upset!!! It's too bad they can't receive any top 25 votes...

Now anybody who loses to Michigan in the Big Ten is a pussy. I wouldn't want to play them anytime soon.

Hey! Didn't Michigan buy their way out a game against Hawaii to play Appalachian State instead? This was supposed to be the date they were to meet.

Ah, hindsight.

btw, Hawaii beat a Northern Colorado 63-6.

this is what some of the big dogs get for playing some of these teams this time of year..
the running joke about texas a&m is that next week they are playing saint jude sisters of the poor junior college...

but this time it went the other way.........

BUT HERE IS THE REALLY SCARY PART......

I believe in fate and o fortuna, carmina burana, wheel of fortune and all that and I am plenty scared......

one touchdown and several key passes were from.....

edwards to hillary.......

oh shit!!!!!!

Les Miles will leave LSU at the end of the year for Michigan! You heard it here first.

Party time in Boone, NC!

I just heard that they went to thier stadium, pulled down goal posts and placed it in the yard of the chancellor......

and remember......this wasnt a slouch team......they have been national champs in their division twice recently.........

good for them......and is there any doubt that the big bad michigan players were looking past those little poor player who couldnt play division I ball..

I remember a little school in east texas, once we had a running back who was great and one of the local colleges told my bud,the coach that he just wasnt fast enough....

the next fall I was on the sidelines as I watched him leave players in the dust....and on the other sideline was that coach who said he wasnt fast enough........it was sweet revenge and an example of when you underestimate your opponent you might be getting yourslef in trouble.....

sort of like when you lefties talk shit about fred......

Sooners 49-0...

Final score OU 79, North Texas 10. But our flag football team was regional southwest intramural intercollegiate champ last year. So at least we have that.

Yeah, passing up college sure was the right call Itsy...

Yup. I passed it by and I can still buy and sell you.

Football sucks ass. Now Golf Rocks.

Larry

In other news, the USA just poned the world at the World Track and Field Championships in Osaka.

The final medal count for the USA was 14 gold, 4 silver, and 8 bronze.

.......that's why they played the game....to see who would win.........

Michigan State Spartan fan here. Grew up just off campus. My son attends there now.

Any time Michigan or Notre Dame loose life is good. To have them both loose in the same day and the Spartans win. I am just fine.

that's why they played the game....to see who would win.........
