Drudge Retort: Red Meat for Yellow Dogs

For nearly four weeks a mining community in central Utah held out hope that six men trapped in a coal mine cave-in would be found alive. That hope is gone now that federal mine officials have suspended the search for the men.

So should we just mine our own business?

this old man cry for the miners and their loved ones.

So sad......Too bad they didn't have the GPS beacons like the union mine workers have.

cant be buried any deeper any cheaper....

Why do I need Bill Maher to tell me about the heckuva-job-Brownie incompetent whom Bush appointed? I never realized that it was possible to blame The Man In The White House for THAT tragedy as well. herm

You can give yourself a headache and groan, or you could come down off your high horse and explain how this device

could help a miner.

These things receive Satellite signals (that's what the "S" stands for) and reports their position. Commonly used to track truckers or find stolen cars. Satellite signals do not reach through the earth.

Yo Goat,

Zat's *headdeask* indicates that he's aware of yer concerns.

As much as ya like butting heads he's actually in agreement.

Kenoosh is the one who thinks GPS works underground.

Be Well.

Um what is *headdesk*?

Duh

Cavers have been working on all sorts of ideas for underground comm. It's a bitch.

But you still get cosmic rays down there.

They see 'em at MINOS and SNO thousands of feet below ground.

I guess now I have to ask why union miners have 'em? (GPS beacons)

Um what is *headdesk*?

Sometimes when encountering ignorance on a scale heretofor unimagined the only sane and logical response is to bang yer head into yer desk repeatedly until the stupid goes away.

This may take a few whacks in the case of particularily egregious offenders.

It's a goat's job

Butt, of course.

Be Well.

Great
I could send a one-way message to someone below me.

They had a hard job, but all miner's understand the risks involved, they have to. In the end we should take their passing, and the passing of the brave men who tried to save them as a lesson. To hell with the blame, we must trust that those who screwed up will be held accountable (thanks to websites like this), yet instead let's learn from this. Retreat mining, probably not the best idea, and I imagine the insurance companies will make sure that this form of mining becomes more expensive for the owners, but please, for their memory let us learn and not repeat our stupid wasteful mistakes.

Chow down, Larry.

"The prestige of government has undoubtedly been lowered considerably by the prohibition law. For nothing is more destructive of respect for the government and the law of the land than passing laws which cannot be enforced. It is an open secret that the dangerous increase of crime in this country is closely connected with this."
