I have a stranger view on this than I guess most other people do. If the politician did NOT know the guy was a crook at the time he/she took the donation, then I don't see why he/she has to return the donation. It looks phoney to scatter all around trying to return the money. Now, if the politicians DID KNOW the guy was a sleeze and took his corrupt money anyway -- that's a different story.

Was he doing these things for Obama? Of course not! He donated to his Senatorial campaign in 2004.
