China's pollution problem, like its economic growth, has shattered all precedents. Environmental degradation is now so severe, with such stark domestic and international repercussions, that pollution poses an acute political challenge to the ruling Communist Party. Only 1 percent of the country's 560 million city dwellers breathe air considered safe by the European Union.

parution soils China. very bad.

Must be from all those 20 milllion guys spanking the monkey. Not enough plositutes.

Great. Now I'm supposed to buy into the whole notion that they will not have the chance to become the dominant world power sometime in the next 50 years because they will have poisoned themselves to death long before that. Or gone gay.

I can't speak for you guys, but I've been making sure my cat gets her crunchies from an American manufacturer that doesn't use Chinese grain sources. Not to promote one brand over another, but it starts with "I."

The lingual consanant transposition jokes are getting old. But if you must use them get it right. It is usually associated with the Japanese and the "R" sound is substituted for the "L" sound -- not the other way around

that's flied lice you plick

ya but, it's soaring like an eagle! Let freedom rain !

Send this article to Rush Limbo and show him what results when the state and corporations are allowed to do as they please. Any Limbobots out there? Limbo is anti union and often says the corporations will not pollute and expose their workers to dangerous conditions because the people that own the corporations are subject to the results of the behavior. This is a prime example of why unions came into existance in the first place. Many of the rules concerning a safe working environment, proper disposal of chemicals etc are the result of unions making their voices heard. The fact the China and other countries can cheat or simply not implement proper work rules and produce safe products should bar them from the marketplace as continuing to do business with them only costs the US jobs and security.

Was over there a couple weeks ago (Shanghi). The polution is incredible. I have not been anywhere that was worse. Although, Delhi and Sao Palo come close.

As I see it there are a few things that are in play here, first a corporations which are left to do what they please. *But* they are left to do as they please by a corrupt government. This government wants to use it's economic power to increase it's influence in the world and is willing to expose it's people to polution and unsafe working conditions (4,700+ miners die each year...) to get there.

Now do I believe our government is any better, not really. And "our" corporations are just as guilty as the Chinese companies.

I agree with someone's comments above. If unions were allowed to form and truely represent the workers that would be a good first step.

On the bright side, I sit on a committee with a Chinese environmental engineering professor. She says the university is having trouble drawing Chinese graduate engineering students because the job market is so hot in China.

Of course, we know the Chinese air pollution is coming to us too, so that's another "benefit" of doing business with the godless chi-coms.

Mexico City is bad... small animals caon't live there.

Oh yeah... since you are making judgements regarding economic systems... Mexico is a capitalist country

==================
The term "chi-coms" is a Rush Limbo invention. The fact that they are "godless" does not make that the problem. Most atheistic countries are far more progressive and concerned about their citizens than China. As an example I cite northern European and Scandinavian countries in particular. New Zealand which is probably the most godless countries in the world has one of the highest standards of living in the world. China's political system needs to change not it's religion.

The Chinese use ancient wisdom and medicines to live in harmony with nature. They are magical. This article was obviously written by a corporate attack dog looking to spread disinformation about these noble shamans.

China is reportedly on track to build 500 coal plants in the next 10 years (more recents reports state 2 every week) while Nigeria produces approximately 25% of the 390 million tons of carbon dioxide every year from global flaring, a byproduct of crude oil production.

Thank god my neighbor drives a hybrid.

"The term "chi-coms" is a Rush Limbo invention."

I think you're wrong about that. I don't know how long Rush has been a broadcaster, but when I was flying patrols in the Straights back in the late '50's and early '60's we called them Chicoms and the Taiwanese, Chinats (Chinese Nationals.)

Chinese NationalISTS.

Where's algore when you really need him ?

Where's algore when you really need him?

Do you laff cos you think yer safe from all of this?

16 outta the worlds 20 most polluted cities are in China.

Their untrammelled capitolism is turning into a form of eco-cide.

It only gets worse as more coal burning factories go on-line every week in China.

It's a closed system, people.

We all share the SAME air.

Learn that.

Be Well.
