I personally think guys like him should be made to live so horrible that they end up begging to be executed. 18 hours a day of back breaking labor in the hot sun. Made to sleep on a concrete floor. 1 shower a week with one change of clothes a week. and a bare minimum of nutrients to sustain life. We don't execute them but make their life a living hell.

The justice system's opportunity to prevent this came and went dozens of times it appears. He was a wolf amongst the sheep and left to roam at will.

The whole idea of having paid your "debt to society" has always bothered me. A drunk driver is a famous personality and gets mere moments within the confines of a jail cell. In Scotland a guy who was caught driving at 150+ gets months behind bars.

There is no "paid your debt" in a justice system that has no concept of what is to be repaid. It gave away the ability to control freaks like this one with the kind of retribution it sought (or didn't as is apparent).

It taught him that he can tolerate the punishment it will mete out and so, on he goes, escalating his crimes until finally caught once again.

Nevetheless, I agree with Byrdman. The death penalty is no punishment to someone who gave away their humanity long ago. A lifetime spent staring at the bare walls of a 6x6 concrete box is.

Actually, skip the salt and replace it with sugar and then place him on an ant hill.

I would actually like something like Chateau d'If from "Monte Cristo", where a sane inmate is slowly driven mad, beaten yearly and given only enough food to survive.

Why is it that everyone always assumes that a notorious prisoner is going to be placed in a cell with Bubba and turned into his bitch? My experience is that the most sociopathic prisoners, which includes Couey, usually end up playing the role of Bubba to some poor schmuck in jail for drug sales or auto theft.

This is a very tough issue. I did not follow this guy but if its true that all he did was expose himself to a five year old more than ten years ago, that does not establish a pattern that would predict a sociopathic killer. This wasn't the guy that buried the girl alive, was it? All Florida sex offends are starting to look alike.

I think law enforcement needs to develop better forecasting tools for the ones who are REALLY dangerous...for there will be few guys who exhibited once, and then years later will hijack an older strange girl and kill her after jumping her and having sex. This is tough stuff.

I think we can expect MORE child murders when child sexual assault carries such harsh penalties of DECADES... to kill the witnesses.

I'm not a forensic psychiatrist but I think if unattractive men DID HAVE legal recourses for their normal drives, they wouldn't resort to taboo ones! And wouldn't kill them for no reason but self protection.

The religious centered leaders need to quit leaving males with no alternative but to marry for procreation. Seems to me most of the guys who get caught and publicized for child abuse are unattractive people used to rejection. I just know that if my kids were still young and I had the choice of getting them raped but alive, I'd take that over the unthinkable alternative! Unlike the arabs, my religion doesn't kill rape victims. Like Elizabeth Smart's dad, I just would want her back!

Do we want to keep dealing with these things, angrily, one at a time? Or take a deep breath, and cut them some slack by relaxing ADULT laws...so they'll be less inclined to prey on our children because we give them no reasonable alternatives.

What would a religious leader answer if you say, 'ok you have two choices for these people... Either let them buy legal age prostitutes or keep dealing with these outrages to your own children?'

I brought this up in another room and everyone went nuts. They went after ME! But no one who went nuts had served in the military or lived in Reno. I'm a practical guy. I'd vote the lesser of two evils.

Perhaps no city will ever have the political will to REPEAL prostitution laws. But another way to test out this idea is for the prosecutor in your county to tell the cops to quit stinging johns...and look the other way and let people know you're looking the other way through the newspaper. And then wait...and see if rape and child assault actually drops off!

If it happens, then legalize it, license it, inspect it, and grin... TAX it. It'd be very nice if parents could go back to letting their kids stand alone at the bus stop like they did when WE were kids!

You don't get it. Pedophiles do not get off on sex with grown women. They prefer very young girls which is why this guy should have been locked up after the first time. I'm not talking about a 18 year old boy with a 15 year old girl -- I'm talking a grown man in his 40s hitting some 11 or 12 year old.
