Former Massachusetts governor Mitt Romney said this week that as president he would allow individual states to keep abortion legal, two weeks after telling a national television audience that he supports a constitutional amendment to ban the procedure nationwide.

You know...... if this man manages to go from the Governor of "Taxxachusetts", as they say, the northeastern liberal bastion, to the leader of the Conservative GOP, overnight, I'm going to count my fingers after if I ever shake hands with him.

He's busy signing Loyalty Oaths and...... wonder whar' he signed up for the Reichwing Culture War?

I mean, is there like one office you can go to for that?

there is nothing wrong, in my opinion, of letting popular opinion guide some of your policy making
it would be stupid for any president or politician to remain steadfast with any policy that has been consistently shown unpopular with the majority of people (ala GW)

that being said--the politicos like hillary, Mcain, Kerry and now Romney seem to change position once a week....

This is his second flip-flop on that issue isn't it?

1. Pro-Choice
2. Pro-Life (ban abortion)
3. Pro-State's Choice (don't ban abortion)

A couple more and he'll resemble a newly caught tuna on the pier after the ride in from the sea

Whatever it takes to get elected seems to be what he sticks with the best

but any way i would still vote hillary over guiliani any day
can never tell when a republican in power will go from a "uniter" to a "divider" these days

Romney was an awful governor here who spent most of his time out of state bad-mouthing the very state he ran.

Sorta like a General planning a battle and then bad mouthing the entire planning of it all.

Any question why Mitt is running 3rd behind Rudy and a guy who's not even in the race?
Must make McCain feel stupid though.

If Romney is pro-life does that mean he's anti-capital punishment?

The Mormon Church follows Jesus by making its principal ethic MONEY. They scam every citizen, (including their) own by engaging in business without ever paying a dime in Tax. Just like other followers of Jesus, like Pat Robertson. Meanwhile, bridges fall into decay.

Generico,

Maybe he's funny that way. I am the same way. I want convicted murderers put to death, and innocent children protected.

Weird, I know.

lol, this guy will say anything.. he just doesn't give a shit, the perfect politician.

When I campaign in liberal states I think abortion should be allowed but when I campaign in conservative states I think it should be banned with a constitutional amendment and fortunately for me most voters are too stupid to realize I am a politician who will say anything to get elected.

"voters are ... stupid"

No!
Really?
Why Danni, only 98% of them voted for a Yalie frat rat with a two-digit IQ in the last presidential election.

ZAT, not all of them were stupid though, some were rich.

well I went to the end to post this and show how silly it is........

but it is a look into the future in how the left will look or attempt to color the last two elections........

Who cares ? Along about 2016 folks will give GOP hopefuls at least a little look see.

generico pro life is really pro due process and pro innocent human life. We pro lifers think the only people killed should be people that have been duly found guilty in a court of law by a jury of their peers. The only noteable exception would be a lawful police action against someone who refuses to comply while killing others or threatening others with death. That shouldn't be too hard for an abortion loving liberal like yourself to understand.

as quoted widely Brigham Young once famously bragged "We have the greatest and smoothest liars in the world." Sounds like par for the course with Mitt. Also the article calls him a favorite of the pro life community but doesn't provide any citations. That's probably because they scarcely exist.

widely quoted?

"Remember, a chip on the shoulder is a sure sign of wood higher up."

"In the days of Joseph [Smith] it was considered a great privilege to be permitted to speak to a member of Congress, but twenty-six years will not pass away before the Elders of this Church will be as much thought of as the kings on their thrones."

BWAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA

What a ridiculous imbecile.

Mitt Romney is the John Kerry of the republican party.

Both fake hunters?
Both shot an unarmed vietnamese kid in the back?
Both banged Heinz?

Well one out of 3 ain't bad.

Both are flip flopper. The one and only important thing they have in common.

I was busting chops.

If Romney is the Republican Kerry in regards to flipflopping, is Hillary this elections Dem kerry?

She flip flops on issues, walks a tightrope on issues, and flip flops on her own personal preferences.

I see her as maybe the Howard Dean of this cycle. We have to wait and see but right now she is the front runner like Dean was and considered to be the favorite. I am just wait to see if she has the breakdown moment that Dean had on camera.

if it were any other candidate and they talked gangsta or hiphop or whatever it was, they would have been "howard deaned" off the dias.

and there is some rumbling from dems about her not being electable or at least her high rating on negative feelings.....(is there anything else besides politics that your HIGH--NEGATIVE---numbers are even mentioned.........

anyway.....they are afraid to speak out because of the clinton machine.

padesta

STEFENOPOLIS.

and how they can ruin them........

she WILL Be the democrat candidate........

any takers???????

If abortion is your biggest argument against any canidate, then you're retarded. Bigger and more important issues to focus on! No president in office is going to want to touch this issue.

The polls must heavily support this point of view...

Marie3 and Kirk, If you are pro-life then you are pro-all life. You can't pick and choose. If you are against abortion then say you're anti-abortion. Saying you are pro-life is misleading, conservative religion nut-jobbery. It's a term to make you sound like you're full of rainbows and sunshine rather than selective about who's life you are "pro" about. That shouldn't be hard for a pro-human-exterminating conservative like yourself, kirk, to understand.

If your grounds for being against abortion are religious then you have to be against capital punishment. It's in the Bible. Read it, you'll see. If you support the killing of convicted criminals then you're removing the possibility of their redemption.

I believe that there are valid reasons for abortion. By making it illegal then all we are doing is pushing it underground again. One of the reasons for legalizing abortion was to remove the horror of illegal ones. Women will continue to have abortions regardless of what the law says so if it's illegal all you're doing is making criminals of women and putting their lives at risk. If that's more moral to you then sleep well.

He's a politician...what do you expect? Honesty?

The great lies come from Republicans and not necessarily Mormons. Mormons have merely been taught to stand on their heads, if necessary, to accept some of the - er - rarer points of their faith. Republicans have learned to say whatever is most likely to appeal to the most voters at any particular moment. Believe me, they don't REALLY give any more of a hoot for fetuses than they do for real people. herm

.....not so Herm........

......I've seen many Republicans enjoying fine fetus sandwiches with their Perrier water.......

.......they care for them a great deal........

Herm you're right.

Repulicans, christitians, libertarians, conservative, religious are all actually agents of Satin. They trick people into "thinking" they care, but really they just want to screw you over....and eat your children and puppies.

pro life is really pro due process and pro innocent human life

So basically, we're committing murder in Iraq and afghanistan? I don't remember reading about a lot of trials or evidence before shock and awe.

Of course, the iraqis are muslim and brown, so much less human life than a couple of cells stuck together, which only have a 66% chance of not being aborted by God anyways.

Dear Generico,

The Bible explicitly commands the death penalty for 1st degree murder. It also forbids the taking of innocent life.

I'm happy to call myself anti-abortion.

Marie3, I'm assuming you are referring to the 6th commandment when you say the Bible commands the killing of an individual when justified. There is, of course the controversy on whether the Bible states "thou shall not kill" or "thou shall not murder." The people who protest the death penalty will use kill while it's proponents will favour the murder version.

This, on the surface, seems to present a conundrum. However, when you look at it in context with the rest of Christian doctrine and the word of God as presented in the New Testament, you realize that because of the controversy your choice of whether or not to support capital punishment is clear. You should not kill.

If the commandment actually reads murder, then you haven't sinned by not using capital punishment. If it reads kill then, again, you haven't sinned. But if you do use the death penalty and the commandment is actually found to say kill then you've sinned. The argument that it could've meant murder wouldn't stand up because then you would have claimed to have known the mind of God. The correct choice is always to assume that all life is sacred and leave the judgment to those who are qualified.

Of course I'm not a Christian so my arguments are more humanistic. Abortion should remain legal because of the consequences of making criminals out of those women who were impregnated through sexual assault or abuse. Abortion should remain legal because there are fetuses who are too deformed to live without undue suffering. Abortion should remain legal because I care about women. I don't want to see the world return to a time where women were getting coat hangar abortions in back alleys.

Capital punishment, however, should be outlawed. It is too often used by corrupt governments as a way to rid themselves of dissenters. It has never been proven to be a deterrent to anything. It has been used against innocent people.

One thing that confuses me is that the people who claim they are anti-abortion only want to turn it into a criminal act as if that will stop it.The majority hate Bill Clinton yet while he was president the abortion rate dropped by 600,000 a year by the end of his terms. No Republican president has come close to a reduction of this magnitude.Yet they call the Libs the
baby killers. Then again President Bush's wife and mother are pro-choice but I doubt Kirk would write them calling them Baby Killers.
