compare the dead weight of the concrete and pavement (which provided little or no structural support) to the weight of the pigeons (droppings and all) and reevaluate another stupid fucking investigation. Shrub's Secretary of Transportation told Lehrer last week that they weren't going to fix the bridge until an investigation was completed (which would take two years). How has Shrub managed to accumulate so much incompetence under one roof? At the very least the Army Corps of Engineers could put in a floating bridge bypass in a month. But first we must pay for these idiots because they have political connections?

I'm not so sure we should be taking advice in "The War Against Pigeons" from a goose. There may be a conflict of interest there.

Nutcase, have you ever noticed everytime that a plane crashes the investigation is slated to take many many months if not years? Do you think long term "investigations" prior to any action being taken is unique to this administration?

I've seen pidgeon shit bore holes in aluminium roofing on the barns at my folks place...very corrosive...little bastards make nice target for a .22 though.

Investigations are a bureaucracy's way of covering their own tracks. Stalling in integral to the public's short memeory and the final reports are riddled with half truths, ommissions and lies which serve the needs of the ruling party and/or bureaucracy. ditto. we had an overpass slam down during rush hour in montreal about a year ago, killed about a half dozen people. A commission was put together to analyze the event, as it was an obvious combination of poor construction, poorer maintenance and the lack of a line of responsability within the gov't.

The report is about to come out, but will be kept secret. Access to information efforts on the part of the media has been stonewalled: the report potentially has elements critical of some bureaucrats still in place, could be damageable to the reputation of the construction company because it would point out that they did a shitty job, or could contain industrial secrets.

Agreed this failure in infrastructure had more to do with a lack of inspections/ maintenance and possibly poor design in the first place rather than a load of pigeon crap although Spud'll admit it was an exaserbating aspect here.

If we painted every steel bridge in America with Imron, it would likely cost almost as much as a week in Iraq.

The bridges have to be painted with something. Imron also lasts longer than other paints....so the longer lasting paint and the savings in labor and inferior paint having to be used more often means Imron makes sense. I had to mix that paint as a kid...I don't know what killed more brain cells...MD20/20 and Little Kings or Imron fumes...........
