US Army Lowers Recruiting Standards Due To Iraq
Recruiting shortfalls as young men decide Iraq is not worth dying for have led the US Army to announce yet another lowering of standards on recruits.

the category IV recruits are below 92 IQ and the US Army already doubled its category IV intake last year from 1% to 2%.

The numbers look much better now that the military has lowered quotas coupled with lowering the entrance requirements......voila!, problem solved!

I was in for 22 years and most are not uber-patriotic, they feel still they have been slighted by this country and do not feel a sense of "team USA" and they join for the training and pay...Not all, But much more than whites who join more for a sense of "defending the nation and it's traditions" again not all...It makes me sad that blacks are so mislead by their so-called leaders that this country will never treat them fairly, I worked with all types in the military and race was never an issue, only when we joked about it

I was dead set against the Iraq war from before day one because I followed the lead up to it very closely and it was obvious -- if one bothered to really look and pay attention -- that Bush and Neocons were lying about the reasons to invade Iraq. But -- hate this war or not -- I and the rest of America are still stuck (thanks to Bush) with it being "our war."

I think people had too high of expectations on what Congress was actually able to accomplish regarding getting us out of Iraq. It is a huge job that can't be done over night. This could be a good thing for blacks. George Bush's economy is so strong that there are so many more opportunities for blacks to be employed in the private sector along with a greater emphasis on going straight to college. Also for those of you saying that blacks are being sent to Iraq to die in disporpotionate numbers, I will say from experience that combat arms, especially infantry, is overwhelmingly white. Most blacks are in combat support or service support branches.
Also, for reasons I never learned, Ranger Battalions and Special Forces Groups are almost exclusively White.
Take a look at the pictures of servicemen being killed in Iraq and will see a surprising lack of "diversity" if you know what I mean.

The military has been an advancement opportunity for lots of people over the years, especailly since the post Viet-Nam all volunteer force. The chance to be paid at a decent (not great buy any means but decent) rate recieve OJT and the GI bill benefits. Mom and Dad both enlisted to "do better" for themselves, I've had several cousins do the same. I joined specfically foe the educational benefits. When I enlisted, the Army paid 755 of tuition to E-4's and below and 90% to E-5's and above. Plust there was the Montgomery GI Bill money. Got a Master's out of it.

It's unfair to just single out blacks as not enlisting as anyone who can do something else is. The standards have been lowered so much that as long as you are breathing you can probably get in. The age requirement has been raised to I believe 42 years and I know members of other branches are being encouraged to switch to combat support in either the marines or army. It's a sad day in the military.

Well let's see, first off the Civil war was not fought just over slavery, it was fought to preserve the Union (and preserve the North's cheap raw materiel source). So the typical Union soldier was fighting to keep his country from permenantly fracturing. Don't kid yourself to think there was a sponataneous upwelling of love for the black man in the North, while slavery may have been seen as repugnant (which it is) don't think for a minute the typical northerner would have accepted a black man into their home.

The typical enlistee today looks forward to getting to spend 12+ months in the middle of someone else's fight. Remember it's Iraqis shooting at Iraqis. And where are the Iraqi equivelent to your boys in blue jumping up to stem the tide of this Iraqi Civil war? I have to wonder if the typical Iraqi doesn't want a balkaniztion of their country.
