Drudge Retort: Red Meat for Yellow Dogs

in an interview at an IHOP restaurant in Waco, days after he announced his resignation as Bush's top political adviser, Karl Rove defiantly dismissed the rash of fresh critiques that have come his way in the last several days. "The dividers, over the last six years have been the Democrats, who have routinely said he was not elected, he's illegitimate, he's a liar, he deliberately misled the country," he said.

"Barney's a lump," he joked.

Kruel Rover unbares his soul at an IHOP in Waco.

Divisive? Me?! He seems incredulous at the charges.

The King of Sleaze politics and dirty tricks is free at last to reveal his deepest regrets from his time as Dumbya's hatchet man. Wot startling revelation does he share? He once told a colleague off and then apologised for it afterwords? That's it? Still denying any inpropriety in the Attorney hiring/firing scandal? Still proud of his work turning Max Cleland from a decorated vet into a bumbling drunken clutz who's "soft on terror"? Blaming the Dems fer the GOPher tactic of deliberately using divisive wedge issues to enrage the electorate?

"Karl's a lumpofshit," Spud joked.

The Whacko from Waco sez Spud, using his lies on the press while putting maple syrup on his flapjacks du jour down at the local IHOP.

Just pouring it on, in fact.

Be Well.

Rove is also still apparently proud of hanging all those Democrats that supported his boss' wars out to dry by saying all they wanted was therapy for al-Qaeda after 9/11.

Not a crazy man, but assuredly an evil one.

Thats so awesome, it's like he's parodying himself. I'm reminded of the bit they did on the Daily Show the other day. I can't wait to see him testify.

Wait a minute. Rove jumps on the dog for being aloof and entitled? I take it back. He is nuts.

Rove is not divsive.

We all hate him see united in our hatred.

Karma is REALLY gonna be a bitch on this guy.

"There was one stark sign that Rove is truly leaving. He expressed what no White House aide would express publicly, though many very senior officials have shared the sentiment privately: that is, distaste for the president's beloved Scottish terrier, Barney, who is seen by some as aloof and entitled. "Barney's a lump," he joked."

Substitute "nuts" for "leaving".

If there really is a group of "very senior officials" obsessing over Barney and thinking he's "aloof and entitled" then they are ALL clinically insane. Hey, guys, Barney's a DOG even if that is GOD spelt backwards.

I would place Rove above Benedict Arnold on the list of American traitors. Rove has done far more damage to the country than Arnold ever did.

What struck me about my fellow Texan, Karl Rove, is that he knew how to win elections as if they were divine interventions. You may think God summoned Billy Graham to Florida on the eve of the 2000 election to endorse George W. Bush just in the nick of time, but if it did happen that way, the good lord was speaking in a Texas accent.

Karl Rove figured out a long time ago that the way to take an intellectually incurious draft-averse naughty playboy in a flight jacket with chewing tobacco in his back pocket and make him governor of Texas, was to sell him as God's anointed in a state where preachers and televangelists outnumber even oil derricks and jack rabbits. Using church pews as precincts Rove turned religion into a weapon of political combat -- a battering ram, aimed at the devil's minions, especially at gay people.

It's so easy, as Karl knew, to scapegoat people you outnumber, and if God is love, as rumor has it, Rove knew that, in politics, you better bet on fear and loathing. Never mind that in stroking the basest bigotry of true believers you coarsen both politics and religion.

At the same time he was recruiting an army of the lord for the born-again Bush, Rove was also shaking down corporations for campaign cash. Crony capitalism became a biblical injunction. Greed and God won four elections in a row - twice in the lone star state and twice again in the nation at large. But the result has been to leave Texas under the thumb of big money with huge holes ripped in its social contract, and the U.S. government in shambles - paralyzed, polarized, and mired in war, debt and corruption.

Rove himself is deeply enmeshed in some of the scandals being investigated as we speak, including those missing emails that could tell us who turned the attorney general of the United States into a partisan sockpuppet. Rove is riding out of Dodge city as the posse rides in. At his press conference this week he asked God to bless the president and the country, even as reports were circulating that he himself had confessed to friends his own agnosticism; he wished he could believe, but he cannot. That kind of intellectual honesty is to be admired, but you have to wonder how all those folks on the Christian right must feel discovering they were used for partisan reasons by a skeptic, a secular manipulator. On his last play of the game all Karl Rove had to offer them was a hail mary pass, while telling himself there's no one there to catch it. - Bill Moyers

KARL ROVE -- VIDEO FROM FOX NEWS SUNDAY (August 19, 2007)

LOL! LOL! LOL! LOL! Not divisive? Now THAT'S seriously funny!

When he said it, did his nose grow out about two feet?

I loved him on Face the Nation this morning whinning about Hillary and how much she is disliked. Well I recall how much Bushling was liked... like a real guy... someone you could have a beer with... one of us... blah blah blah... being likeable don't mean shit.
Let me illustrate... 911, go shopping, mission accomplished,WMDs, parades and flowers, Abu Grabass, Katrina, Brownie yer one heck of a guy.... it never fucking ends... worst president in history... worst lame duck president in history.

Considering how his favorite pet project and product of wierd rovian science turned out... Fuck him and the elephant he rode in on. I am unanimous about that one.

B*ll Sh*t!

"The dividers, over the last six years have been the Democrats, who have routinely said he was not elected, he's illegitimate, he's a liar, he deliberately misled the country," he said.

Man I love irony

Not divisive?

No more than a steel wedge dividing a wooden log while being pounded by a sledgehammer.

Completing the analogy, the sledgehammer is the Republican party base who will do anything to see their agenda pushed further.

There is no karma, and no hell. If you want rove to pay, get him now.

Karl Rove doesn't have to apologize for anything!

Rove like Bush and Cheney, did his worst while he was at the white house, and nobody in the whole US Govt.really tried to stop them.
The Democrats were more worried about how they'd look in the polls,if they stood up against the flag-waving Bush Nazis, than about what massive damage this Iraq Oil War "Fiasco" was inflicting on both Iraq and America.
What it all really means is that the US Govt.has become so incompotent and so out of touch with the American public, that its now hopelessly "obsolete"!

Karl Rove knew this well and exploited it to the hilt, this is also why Bush & Cheney will soon ,like Rove, simply walk away, scott free, from the whole bloody, disasterous mess!

What a fucking liar. Not that he cares, he just loves muddying the water for anyone who takes him seriously.

I saw an interview with Cheney recently where he said that as a politician, he only really needs 51%. While this is technically true, it speaks volumes about the current administration. They don't care about polls, they don't care about them people who don't vote for them, anf you could certainly argue they don't even care about the people who do vote for them after their vote is cast. Once they're in power, we are all to just shut up and do what they tell us.

Alledged corrupt acts aside, this is simply the most un-democratic regime I've ever seen or eve read about in the US. All politicians want power, but these people really seem to see power as the only goal, with no public service at all. God I can't wait until B/C are out of office.

rove acting like he's innocent of any political devision is like bill clinton saying he had no sex life while in office. it's just outright blasphemy. veracifier has a good post about this too and general coverage of rove's departure -- but really. at an IHOP? what do you think this bill will appear as on budget reconciliation? "pancake breakfast with press... $700." ugh. is he trying to seem middle american or something?

They must have the goods on Rove. He's pleading his case at IHOP and anywhere they'll listen.

I hope he's going down.

Rove: "I'm not difisive'

Whichever party you're affiliated with you have to give that one a mighty big chuckle.

And 'divisive' too LOL

There is no karma, and no hell. If you want rove to pay, get him now.

It warmed the cockles of my heart to hear him talk about how Hillary has the highest negatives of any presidential candidate going back as far as these things have been tracked.

Thank you Karl.

Goodbye Jezebel.

This piece of shit destroyed my party and our great country. Americans need to unite, red and blue, and get rid of these self serving traitors and get back to the Constitution. Rove should rot in jail...

Hey kirk, theres some more blowing of karl rove for you to do.

Who said I didn't believe in heaven?

All I'm saying is...don't wait for punishment to be meted out in the afterlife. Rove and his ilk must be stopped now, before they completely destroy our country.

Rove is truly out of touch with America if he does not understand that he is among the most divisive people of the last decade.

Rove understands everything.

He chose power this lifetime.

Power takes.

Love gives.

Now I understand why Karl Rove came out early from Bush's regime.

He can openly start laying the ground to defeat the next Democratic nominee.

Rove and Limbaugh are twins: separated at birth. Compare their pictures if you doubt. One to spin the Democrats from inside (White House) and the other to rile the Democrats from outside (Radio).

No wonder Leahy is seething with anger and frustration for not being able to crucify Rove.

I would place Rove above Benedict Arnold on the list of American traitors. Rove has done far more damage to the country than Arnold ever did.

Buffalo_Bob, please back up your drivel with some facts. Otherwise, just admit that you hate Karl Rove because he knows how to win elections for the GOP.

moremusicnow, what did Rove do to destroy our great country? Which party do you think Rove destroyed? What crime did Rove commit?

Many of you lefties here at the DR appear to be enraged because Rove was never accused of anything and therefore never had to make that infamous "perp" walk. Admit it. You hate the guy because he was able to run rings around the Democrats. Well, you only have your party to blame. The Democrats have made it very easy for anyone to run rings around them.

What crime did Rove commit?

What crime did Rove commit?

High treason, or is outing a CIA agent not a crime in your world?

Wow, You should contact Fritz with the evidence you have that this happened. He obviously needed some evidence to get Rove or must have done a terrible job on his investigation. Don't recall any charges against anyone regarding outing a CIA agent.

Keep spreading the lie, most of your sheep believe it already.

logic assears

outing her was a political ploy.

Rove is the political brains of the operation.

Bush, Cheney, Rove etal cooked this up.

Period.

Despite what is provable or not.

so a crime only happened if charges are brought, ok got ya.

cia agent was outted.

punishment for criticism of bush's lies

period.

In other words truthhurts, you got caught talking out of your ass yet again. You'd think that by now you'd know you're a fucking idiot.

ummm no stupid

rove, bush, cheney committed high treason by outing a cia agent.

all of her contacts were put at risk by their actions.

how many of them have paid a price i wonder?

America was put a risk.

Just because a conspiracy at this level cannot be proven does not make it not a fact.

the old I didnt know this or that bullshit is just that bullshit.

actions like this dont happen without knowing exactly what you are doing.

they THOUGHT she was not covert?

you err on the side of not releasing the info.

Rove: I'm Not Divisive

I think the partisan divide in this nation can't be attributed to one person, one President or either party. It's a slow process thathas taken decades to get to our prenet state of "hatred" between the major party's.

And sad to say but I don't think that is going to change anytime soon.

I think it is interesting that both Hillary and Rudy are leading their respective Party's race for President by embracing the same tactics -- both of them are vilifying the other party, while telling voters that they are the candidate who has a proven track record that they can beat the Other party.

On the ohter hand, Obama who has positioned himself as a "uniter" not a divider is sinking in the polls.

Are you always so over dramatic? Your husband must be a saint ot put up with such a drama queen.

-positioned himself as a "uniter" not a divider

Like many other myths that GW has spoiled for the GOP...... such as "compassionate conservative" or "small government GOP" or "the Party good at fighting wars" or the "financially conservative Party"..... "uniter" not a divider is just one more myth down the tubes.

truthhurts, nor does it make it a fact. Even when there's no evidence to support your belief, you still want to believe it's true. Your hatred of this man is undeniable.

was Plame a cia agent?

was she covert?

was her name released to the press?

was her identity blown?

lie all you want but the answer to all of the above is yes.

it was in retaliation to her husbands statements about bush's lies about iraq.

therefore, who released the info

Armitage and Libby.

They would not have done that (regardless of the bullshit they spew), without it being directed to by bush cheney and since it was a political act, rove.

provable one thing, truth another.

Karl Rove caught in another lie on Sunday.

His public speaking will stop soon, as he can't go 5 minutes telling the truth.

Gregory: Matt Cooper, let's pick up on an aspect of the interview with, with Karl Rove having to do with the leak case, the CIA leak case, that you were part of as well.

And something's that's very interesting, he, he went out of his way to say,

"I would not have been a confirming source on this kind of information"

and taking issue with, with Novak's testimony in his column that he knew who Valerie Plame was. He said he would never confirm that information. That's different from your experience with him.

Cooper: Yeah, I, I think he was dissembling, to put it charitably.

Look, Karl Rove told me about Valerie Plame's identity on July 11th, 2003.

I called him because Ambassador Wilson was in the news that week. I didn't know Ambassador Wilson even had a wife until I talked to Karl Rove and he said that she worked at the agency and she worked on WMD. I mean, to imply that he didn't know about it or that this was all the leak ...

Gregory: Or that he had heard it from somebody else ...

Cooper: ... by someone else, or he heard it as some rumor out in the hallway is, is nonsense.

Gregory: But he makes no apologies to Valerie Plame.

Cooper: Karl Rove never apologizes. That's not what he does..

How Rove Directed Federal Assets for GOP Gains

Bush Adviser's Effort to Promote the President and His Allies Was Unprecedented in Its Reach

In the past few months, revelations about a few dozen political briefings that Rove's team conducted at federal agencies and several election-related slides from those briefings have touched off investigations into whether the White House improperly politicized federal workers or misused government assets to win elections.

Investigators, however, said the scale of Rove's effort is far broader than previously revealed; they say that Rove's team gave more than 100 such briefings during the seven years of the Bush administration. The political sessions touched nearly all of the Cabinet departments and a handful of smaller agencies that often had major roles in providing grants, such as the White House office of drug policy and the State Department's Agency for International Development.

much more

www.washingtonpost.com

If you haven't figured out what Rove is by now, you never will. The bottom line is that we have a useless dickhead for a President and Rove is the one who created the political machine and tactics that gave him to us.

That said, those who voted for Bush and especially those who voted for him in 2004 ultimately bear the blame. As our Rethug posters here are fond of reminding us in contexts where their own sacred cows are not involved, the individual must always take responsibility for his actions.

He probably also denies being a fat piece of crap.

What crime did Rove commit?

Crime? You mean George bush, Dick Cheney and Karl Rove could commit crimes?

No its not possible, not under the New Bush Order, not when the president has put the Whitehouse above the law, not when Dick Cheney doesnt belong to either the executive or legislative branch, not when George can shield every action by claiming Executive Priviledge, not when his cronies lie to congress and Bush then commutes them, not when National Intelligence is cherrypicked and taken out of context in order to lay a case for preemptive war, not when we become a nation of torturers and thieves who steal private lands from citizens to give to corporations, not when we can be jailed without right to trial, not when the supreme court hijacks an election and determines to stop counting votes in order to hand the presidency to a mindless figurehead of the central banks and international megacorporations at the expense of middle class America.

Not when you pussies let them get away with it and take pride in watching Bush destroy the office and credibility of the US the world abroad. You're the crime.

not preemptive, not even preventive, agression

"He was alternately emotional and nostalgic, clinical and unbowed, but rarely introspective, saying, "There will be time for regrets"

Like when he's standing at the pearly gates, and handed suntan lotion and a fan.

This guy is so immoral, so unethical and plain out and out horrible human being. There was a reason Bush senior fired Roves ass.

Rove is a strategist, yet denies creating the things that have unfolded in this administration.

I guess he really believes what's been practiced by this administration all these years.....if you say something often enough, people might believe it!

I sure has hell don't.

Not when you pussies let them get away with it and take pride in watching Bush destroy the office and credibility of the US the world abroad. You're the crime.

Posted by Repugnant at 2007-08-20 10:53 AM

Thanks for the nice words, Repugnant. Once again, when the lefties have lost the argument, they always seem to resort to name-calling. Why is that? Have you read Ann Coulter's book "Slander"? You are giving Ann Coulter all the credibility she needs.

Wahh, Waah, Wahh! Rove should have his rattle and diapers changed. Crybaby!

Once again, when the lefties have lost the argument,

What argument is that? I was arguing that Rove was above the law...

are you suggesting that he is a criminal?

How did you prove Rove was a criminal, or are you just talking out your pussy again?

You are giving Ann Coulter all the credibility she needs.

I'll give ann cunthair what she needs, then she'll need a colonic irrigation afterwards.

So Thug4eva you support abuse of exectuive priveledge, torture, stripping private land to sell to corporations, activist judges, the Iraq war and corporate interference in our government too?

Nice! A true patriot you are bootlicker.

There you go again Repugnant, throwing names around and using foul language, too. No, I'm not suggesting that Rove is a criminal, nor do I believe he is above the law. None of us are above the law. If he has committed a crime, then he should be charged with such. Until then, keep dreaming for that "perp" walk.

Face it, you lost the argument. You cannot prove that Rove or any part of this administration is above the law. Their actions are allowed in the constitution. If not, then they should be charged with whatever crime it is that they have committed. If they have committed any crimes, then why hasn't the justice department come calling? Where's the proof that any laws have been broken? Just wondering.

"What crime did Rove commit?

High treason, or is outing a CIA agent not a crime in your world?

There's a difference, mOntecOre. OJ was charged with a crime whereas Rove has not been. And by the way, in everyone's world OJ is innocent. At least, that was the outcome of the trial.

An OJ and Rove supporter!

Nice! Now I see the true character of what I am talking to.

You express that I lost an argument that I never made for some reason, that Rove is guilty of a crime.

Then I say no I didnt say that, and you try to argue it still thug4eva!!. wake up TOOL!

What I said is that the Bush administration has put itself above the law.

Let me spell it out in simple terms so you can understand. There is a BIG difference between breaking the law ans being above the law, so try and focus grasshopper.

Bush can do what ever he wants to this country, he can rape it, he can lie, he can steal, and he does, why? Because he is above the law.

If he wants to violate our constitution he does.

If he wants to infringe on your 2nd right amendments he does. Its called illegal wiretapping.

If you congress chooses to investigate all he has to do say "executive privilege". and he doesnt have to provide any testimony from the white house.

If congress wants to gather email from the vice president, they just say, we do not have to provide that, we're above your reach. We dont have any emails, o wait, yes we do but you still cant investigate anything we say, due to somehting we'll make up now

The White house controls the legal prosecution in this country. You think Alberto is going to bring Bush up for any charges on anything, while stonewalling congress? Especially since he was Bushes personal henchman at Ashcrofts bedside pushing for Constitutional violations?!

So if you think that the justice Dept is fair and balanced, stick a quarter in your ASS, because your playing yourself.

The point you FAIL to see is that they wont be charged with anything when they control everything you idiot. Even if congress does something Bush just commutes and excuses all treason against our country, but I wouldnt expect you to allow reality to seep in.

Meanwhile you havent proved that they arent above the law. You are the loser thugz4eva.

So thug4eva explain to me this

You really havent said anything intelligent yet, so step up and quit whining about being called names and provide some substance ..

How is Bushes action of commuting Libby for lying to protect the Whitehouse not sending a message that the Whitehouse cronies can do or say whatever they want, and that ol George will make sure they are safe from the law in reality?

Do you think Alberto Gonzales is doing his job correctly, or is he playing cronie for Bush?

Repugnant, in case you weren't aware, Congress has already re-authorized the wire-tap program. Must not be illegal then.

If Bush is guilty of anything, then why doesn't the House bring up charges of impeachment? They don't need Bush's AG to do anything. Do you think Janet Reno provided any charges when Clinton was impeached? I didn't think so.

In other words, the there is nothing illegal going on in the White House, and the Democrats know it.

In other words, the there is nothing illegal going on in the White House, and the Democrats know it.

The Money Masters

Despite these warnings, Woodrow Wilson signed the 1913 Federal Reserve Act. A few years later he wrote: I am a most unhappy man. I have unwittingly ruined my country. A great industrial nation is controlled by its system of credit. Our system of credit is concentrated. The growth of the nation, therefore, and all our activities are in the hands of a few men. We have come to be one of the worst ruled, one of the most completely controlled and dominated Governments in the civilized world no longer a Government by free opinion, no longer a Government by conviction and the vote of the majority, but a Government by the opinion and duress of a small group of dominant men. -Woodrow Wilson

www.themoneymasters.com

If Bush is guilty of anything, then why doesn't the House bring up charges of impeachment?

They have, and are in the process now.

in case you weren't aware, Congress has already re-authorized the wire-tap program. Must not be illegal then.

I am aware that congress voted on a wiretapping law that changes what the president did illegally at the time to make it legal,

Thanks! yet another example of how bush is above the law.

You'll have to do better to prove that Bush isnt above the law thug...

In December 2004, Congress passed an intelligence bill requiring the Justice Department to tell them how often, and in what situations, the FBI was using special national security wiretaps on US soil. The law also required the Justice Department to give oversight committees copies of administration memos outlining any new interpretations of domestic-spying laws. And it contained 11 other requirements for reports about such issues as civil liberties, security clearances, border security, and counternarcotics efforts.

After signing the bill, Bush issued a signing statement saying he could withhold all the information sought by Congress.

David Golove, a New York University law professor who specializes in executive-power issues, said Bush has cast a cloud over ''the whole idea that there is a rule of law," because no one can be certain of which laws Bush thinks are valid and which he thinks he can ignore.

''Where you have a president who is willing to declare vast quantities of the legislation that is passed during his term unconstitutional, it implies that he also thinks a very significant amount of the other laws that were already on the books before he became president are also unconstitutional," Golove said.

Bush has also challenged statutes in which Congress gave certain executive branch officials the power to act independently of the president. The Supreme Court has repeatedly endorsed the power of Congress to make such arrangements. For example, the court has upheld laws creating special prosecutors free of Justice Department oversight and insulating the board of the Federal Trade Commission from political interference.

Nonetheless, Bush has said in his signing statements that the Constitution lets him control any executive official, no matter what a statute passed by Congress might say.

George Bush stole candy from the convenience store.
Is this the crime youre looking for...

we can keep going thug4eva

I am thinking that the people like Republican4ever are so dense that it is beyond reason. The only thing that can explain it is something above and beyond reasonable discourse.

Could this person be an agent of the party put here to smoke screen and obfusticate? I mean, one of the rules of Rove is to deny, deny, deny. The other Rove rule is to pin your worst traits on your opponent. Take the Ann Coulter reference above, comparing reasonable discourse to that sewer drain.

These are not reasonable people, these are agents. Might be on the payroll.

Repugnant, you've proven nothing. If the President is acting outside of his authority, then impeach him. If Bush claims that the Constitution allows him to control any executive official, then it's up to Congress to rectify the situation. Why haven't they done anything? You must be aware of our system of checks and balances.

Once again, if the President has broken any laws, then Congress must impeach him. The problem is Congress doesn't have any evidence that any laws have been broken.

MOCKINGBIRD - The Subversion Of The Free Press By The CIA

In the 1950s, outlays for global propaganda climbed to a full third of
the CIA's covert operations budget. Some 3, 000 salaried and contract
CIA employees were eventually engaged in propaganda efforts. The cost
of disinforming the world cost American taxpayers an estimated $265
million a year by 1978, a budget larger than the combined expenditures
of Reuters, UPI and the AP news syndicates.

In 1977, the Copely News Service admitted that it worked closely with
the intelligence services - in fact, 23 employees were full-time
employees of the Agency.

www.whatreallyhappened.com

thug4eva

you are either not paying attention, stupid or both. You're Welcome.

If the President is acting outside of his authority, then impeach him.

Bush does not consider anything outside his authority, I have been saying this over an over. He thinks he is above authority. I have shown explicit examples of this, if you choose to ignore it, ignore his ability to stonewall congress, ignore contept charges

www.cnn.com

then I can t help that your a fucking moron.

Dont you comprehend that with his signing statements he has given him the power to allow for all of your mail to be read, to jail you without right to trial, severing your most basic freedoms provided by the Constitution!

He signs bills into law and then completely disregards them with signing statements Here are a ton of examples

www.boston.com

not to say that all Presidents haven't used signing statements in the past, for example - Clinton signed 140 of them in 8 years. George W Bush has issued nearly 1000 of them in half a term less. George Bush has turned the practice into not only a line item veto, but a form of legislation in itself.

Many of the laws Bush said he can bypass -- including the torture ban -- involve the military.

The Constitution grants Congress the power to create armies, to declare war, to make rules for captured enemies, and ''to make rules for the government and regulation of the land and naval forces." But, citing his role as commander in chief, Bush says he can ignore any act of Congress that seeks to regulate the military.

On at least four occasions while Bush has been president, Congress has passed laws forbidding US troops from engaging in combat in Colombia, where the US military is advising the government in its struggle against narcotics-funded Marxist rebels.

After signing each bill, Bush declared in his signing statement that he did not have to obey any of the Colombia restrictions because he is commander in chief.

In October 2004, five months after the Abu Ghraib torture scandal in Iraq came to light, Congress passed a series of new rules and regulations for military prisons. Bush signed the provisions into law, then said he could ignore them all. One provision made clear that military lawyers can give their commanders independent advice on such issues as what would constitute torture. But Bush declared that military lawyers could not contradict his administration's lawyers.

The frequency and the audacity of Bush's use of signing statements are troubling. Enactments by Congress are presumed to be constitutional - as the Justice Department has often reiterated. For example, take what is close to boilerplate language from a government brief (selected at random): "It is well-established that Congressional legislation is entitled to a strong presumption of constitutionality. See United States v. Morrison ('Every possible presumption is in favor of the validity of a statute, and this continues until the contrary is shown beyond a rational doubt.')."

Bush's use of signing statements thus potentially brings him into conflict with his own Justice Department. The Justice Department is responsible for defending the constitutionality of laws enacted by Congress.

But now that the Justice Department has been wholly consumed by the White House and is joined in stonewalling congress, essentially bogging congress down in defense of itself.

Repugnant, Why don't you say what you really mean:

"Anyone who doesn't agree with me is a pig-headed fool"

LOL

I've known plenty of pig-headed fools who've said the same thing.

" Karl Rove suggested yesterday that Rudy Giuliani has a shot at winning the Republican presidential nomination despite his pro-choice abortion stance.

Without specifically referring to the ex-mayor, President Bush's departing political guru hinted that Giuliani may be able to soften the anathema of many anti-abortion conservatives by convincing them he's not an abortion rights activist.

"I do think people are accepting of candidates who ... respect and understand the essential core ... what do we need to do in order to make abortion less prevalent in America?" Rove told "Fox News Sunday."

He added, "I find a lot of people who are pro-life are willing to take a candidate who will carry that standard."

Go rudy Go.....

Call me all the names you want, Repugnant, and I could care less. What is it that you don't understand about the President using his executive branch powers to ensure our national security? That's his job. He is doing the job that he was elected to do.

And, I highly doubt that all my mail is being read. I am not a terrorist, nor am I a suspected terrorist. I have nothing to hide. What about you?

Yes, Repugnant is obviously a Terrorist. Look at the questions he asks. Obviously an Anti American. I'll bet he didn't even vote for Bush.

He is doing the job that he was "elected" to do.

Been over it for years...since JFK stole Chicago...& paid dearly for it in Dallas.

How the winds doing? I haven't been to Leeward Island in 20 years, though in St Martin's last NY's.

Reached a max of 35 knots a few hours ago. Seas are high. Rig is rockin'.

have nothing to hide. What about you?

I have a respect for the personal privacy.

The general pattern of abuse offered by your dictator in chief does not compel me to give up my freedoms and comply with mindless social engineering to further benefit Geedubyahz oil driven war machine.

Those who would sacrifice freedom for security deserve neither. - Ben Franklin

He is doing the job that he was elected to do.

He was elected to start preemptive wars in Iraq for oil?

He was elected to torture people??

He was elected to neglect New Orleans during disaster???

He was elected to sit and read my pet goat for 10 minutes after he found out our nation was being attacked????

Dude... we could make a drinking game out of this and get WASTED!!

Rove is right. The Dems will fight anything the GOP or Bush supports REGARDLESS of the issue - even issues they would normally support.

My cousin was murdered in South Los Angeles by gang members. Republican Congressman Bill Forbes introduced a tough anti-gang measure in 2005 to combat gangs nationwide with tougher enforcement and more money to law enforcement to combat gangs where in cities like Los Angeles, they account for over half of the over 500 homicides per year. The Democrats voted straight down party lines to REJECT the bill to protect Americans particularly in gang areas which are universally Democrat strongholds like South L.A., Southside Chicago, East St. Louis, etc. Why oppose a bill to fight criminals?

You have candidates like Hillary Clinton who said PRIOR to the Iraq invasion that she did NOT rely just on George Bush in concluding that Iraq hasd weapons of mass destruction. She said her office did it's own INDEPENDENT investigation and concluded Iraq has weapons of mass destruction and voted to support the war. Now she claims she was just duped by Bush when Iraq gets negative press. She quickly abandoned her principles.

Ethics? Where was the push to get Congressman William "I have $90k in my freezer" Jefferson out of office AFTER being indicted after all the '06 elections ethics talk?

I left the Democrat Party because it has turned into a party that will fight not for the interests of America, but for the interest of backing the Democrat Party and individual political Democrat careers. They fight simply to oppose the GOP even when there are good bills out there that benefit all Americans like fighting gang violence. Read this board. The Dems blame Bush for everything from bridges collapsing to hurricanes to global warming. It's just so silly and stupid. Rove is right. The Dems are the dividers.

"He was elected to neglect New Orleans during disaster???"

No, that's what Nagin and Blanco were elected to neglect.

He was elected to torture people??

Where or when did we torture anyone? As far as I'm concerned, as long as your not causing any bodily harm, it is not torture. But then again, to a liberal Democrat, asking for anything more than name, rank, and serial number constitutes torture.

"As far as I'm concerned, as long as your not causing any bodily harm, it is not torture."

idiot

Zat, do you know the context of the picture? It may just be a picture of a dead enemy. How do you know for sure he was tortured to death? At any rate, if this man was tortured, then the soldier who did it should pay the consequences. No doubt about that. However, you can't say that Bush did it, nor can you say that Bush condoned it. We as a nation do not torture people. Sure, there may be some sick individuals out there, but you can't make the generalization that we as a nation condone torture, because we don't.

Republican4ever.

Bush's administration tortures. Do you know why the secret prisons were closed (for a bit)? The CIA walked out with the threat of legal action and there was no law protecting them, only the word of the President. This is why the MCA 2006 was passed - with retroactive protection from prosecution and a strict definition of "torture" being permanent organ damage or death.

The American Psychiatric Association* (not the American Psychological Association) the American Medical Association and our Military have banned the enhanced interrogation techniques that were used prior to the MCA. The members of the AMA and APA* have banned all members from participation in the current program.

The CIA now runs all "enhanced" interrogation programs. Why? Because despite the cute name, it's still torture. After WWII those that used the tehcniques we used (and apparently some are still being used) were prosecuted for war crimes.

And let's recall: what was the sentence the Norwegian war crimes court deemed appropriate for those convicted of the use of verschrfte Vernehmung? Death.

A battle ensued on Capitol Hill, with Bush officials fighting vigorously to exempt the CIA from tighter rules on prisoner treatment.

The White House apparently lost when Congress overwhelmingly passed the Military Commissions Act of 2006. It forbids detainee abuse, using specific language that experts on human rights and international law say would be hard, if not impossible, to circumvent legally.

Those experts were subsequently shocked by what Bush said in the East Room of the White House when he signed the bill last October. "This bill will allow the Central Intelligence Agency to continue its program for questioning key terrorist leaders and operatives," Bush said. "[The CIA] program has been one of the most successful intelligence efforts in American history."

PRESIDENT Thompson.

"if he had done something wrong, then fitz would have procecuted."

Ah, but somethings on the DR NEVER change, right BL2? Like pretending that if there is not enough proof to take a case to trial means that no crime was committed. You've repeated that old verse more time than a Herman's Hermits hit.

Well let's just say this...

PRESIDENT Gucci-wearing, Lincoln-driving, Perrier-drinking, Grey Poupon-spreading millionaire Washington special-interest lobbyist.

Should be an even easier sell to Republicans than Bush the "Texan" was.

The clintons divided this country to the extreme that it is today , divide to conquer , and through the bullshit , rightwingers realized that those 2 pieces of shit opened our eyes to the worthlessness of marxism , communism and socialism , the parasite ideology should be sent back to hell .
A person should keep that of which they work for . the fucked up libs will have us working for the whole world , and whine about the blacks having been slaves 300 years ago ,where the only cotton these lowlife blacks have picked came out of an aspirin bottle .Outlaw slavery of every form in the U.S. , make the blacks and spics work for a living , and kick all illegals out .

You're a peach Nutzo, a real peach. Maybe you can make up some campaign signs and put them out on your front lawn.

RightNut

I'll take the Clinton's 'communist, etc.' prosperity, fiscal management style, and 23 million good paying jobs created over Bush's 7 millions low paying jobs (while 10-20 million good paying jobs left for India-Communist China) anyday.

Bush's deficits have been financed by Communist China (who hold hundreds of billions in U.S. debt), or don't you read the papers?

American - why would you even try reasonable discourse with someone who uses terms like "lowlife blacks" and "spics" in a post?

This is not a person familiar with civility, intelligent debate or, probably, regular bathing.

WHAT WAS THAT I READ>........

an agent was OUTED.....

damn I must have missed those charges being filed againt the person who did it........

I guess armitage has been in jail this whole time for doing that???????????

"Rove is right. Dems are the dividers...."

I recall being in that minority of Americans that opposed the Iraq War from the start.

You don't want to know what names and even threats I received from the neoconservative right. First for the crime of speaking my mind. Then for the crime of being right.

Bush deserves everything that's said about him, and so does Rove. We'll spend years discovering just how bad they let us down and sold us out.

With any luck, one or both will eventually find themselves in prison.
