The Troika becomes a duo.

Deaver along with James Baker and Edwin Meese were called that because of their over-influence on President Raygun back in the day.

Meese was Reagan's Gonzo during the Iran Contra thing. Baker was Chief of Staff and Deaver his Deputy.

Meese, after wallowing in the world of pronography fer a while in his infamous commision went on to be one of the founding fathers of ID.

Baker, as we all know, went on to gain further infamy by influencing the Florida recount in the 2000 selection.

Deaver took the lesser evil path and merely went on to represent the Carlyle group fer years.

RIP and all that.

Be Well.

Nice of you.

Deaver = Rove lite

RIP to a talented man, even though his skills were on behalf of a candidate I did not support.

It also says a lot about him that, when he fell on hard times and was convicted of criminal charges, he admitted to his problems and sent word to President Reagan that he would refuse a pardon.

I wish his family well. Sad to lose a true patriot.

I didn't want to come to this thread because I was afraid it would be a lot of lefties trampling his grave. I'm very pleased to find that I am wrong.

Thanks to all.

Good point.

Compare Deaver to the Deputy Chief of Staff that just departed, the late unlamented Turdblossom, and Deaver doesn't look quite so bad in direct comparison.

Be Well.

Reagan's message was always bright and hopeful. And remember his 11th commandment of not trashing fellow Republicans. Compare that to the Bush's 2000 Primary campaign. I've also read that Deaver was very loyal to a D.C. group that helped recovering addicts put things in order, often helping them find jobs. My sympathy also goes out to Nancy, who was at Merv's funeral only the day before Mike died.
