Hey, they're poor. This is the compassionate conservative way of strengthening the gene pool.

"Despite indications that the housing downturn is more severe than anticipated, Bush said he believes it still reflects a "soft landing" scenario that won't result in serious harm to the economy.

"That's kind of what it looks like so far," the president said."

I wonder if he got his economics outlook from his gut or God.

Damn, I was hopping you libs would take care of my kids for me.

Bills like this would serve a great purpose for Americans , but when you start taxing Americans to pay for illegal aliens medical bills , then it is time to VETO .I can't believe shithead kennedy wrote that cluster fuck bill not to allow 12 to 20 million illegal parasites legally rape , pillage and plunder America , the fuck wrote the bill to cover 100 million of those parasites . why is that worthless , stinken commie fuck still in office ?Ole john kerry's mentor , and America's sell out in viet nam , he was the brains behind that cluster fuck , revenge for never being able to become president , as he practiced giving abortions buy drowning .
As the commie libs have made our dependence on foreign oil a travesty , the rest of the world is claiming the Arctic resources as theirs . We are not allowed to drill in this gulf or that habitat , but if you are an enemy of America or look to weaken America's standing in the world , the libcoms of America will help you do it .

I agree with the passage of this bill ONLY if illegals don't get one fucking dime.

This thread keeps getting funnier by the post. BRIWO and Sniper's were FF, but Rightnut's has me rolling on the floor...

Keep it up!

only kids taken care of medically in this country are Iraqi kids and illegal kids. american kids? screw em

hhhmmm....."Some of the great highlights of my life were being with a guy I love " Bush said.

"If S-Chip is used to expand the nationalization of health care, I will veto it," he said. He said that he'd proposed increasing S-Chip funding in his budget, but much less than Congress wants.....

No, Bush, don't worry -- it's not to 'expand' national health care that's the reason why the S-CHIP program is costing a fortune. It's because the Democrats have decided that -- for the first time -- they will include ALL ILLEGAL ALIENS UNDER AGE 25 in the SCHIP program. But not to worry, Bushie -- the Democrats will fund that cost increase with $200,000,000 they STOLE from AMERICAN senior citizens on Medicare to pay for illegals aliens instead.

Physicians and hospitals have been financially hurt badly these last 2-3 years because of cuts up to 40% in Medicare payments to them and they have been trying to have these cost cuts eliminated. However, now that the Democrats have taken MILLIONS $$$$$ MORE AWAY FROM MEDICARE by now guaranteeing FREE HEALTH CARE for ALL ILLEGAL ALIENS UP TO AGE 25 in SCHIP all these doctors and hospitals stand little chance of stopping further cuts in Medicare payments. Ain't it wonderful to see how the Democrats take care of our U.S. senior citizens -- NOT.

hhhmmm....."Some of the great highlights of my life were being with a guy I love..." Bush said.

But there's always plenty of money for Big Oil, Pharma... Military Industrial Complex with the worlds largest collection of weapons of mass destruction. Too bad for us M-I-C can't beat the North Vietnamese, el Sadre or al Qaida.

But don't give anything to other peoples kids.

Anyone know if we currently pay for the health care of Iraqis? If so, perhaps one of our erudite sages on the right (Rightnut?) can explain this apparent irony.

If this bill includes Illegals, I am against it.

you pay for everything in iraq !! You pay for the iraq olympic team and the soccer team and its travel expenses.. sucker!!

Maria and Juan are our future! Learn Spanish before you have to press #2 for English!

Obama 2008!

WOO-HOO!

I find the coincidence funny. In this article, Bush wants to deny healthcare to poor kids. In another article psted on Drudge, he sees 11 doctors for Lyme's Disease.

Next person that complains about Edward's $400 haircut deserves to be punched in the gob.

Yes, there really are America's. Unfortunatly all of our politicians live in the one for the rich.

(No, I don't plan on voting for Edwards, but it fits well here...)

Can anyone find and paste Tom Toles excellent piece on this legislation? I tried to find it, but can't seem to. A grown man (the insurance industry) is sitting on W's lap, sucking his thumb while W is asking "who is going to take care of this little guy?" or some such.

Monticore, This David Horsey (Seattle PI) cartoon sounds like the one mean.

Couldn't find that one Monte, but here's another funny one on the same topic.

Thanks to both of you gentlemen. TKO - that's the one, and Joe - even more biting and to the point. (And mea culpa to Horsey for giving Toles credit for his work.)

TKO - I just realized I assumed you were male. If I was wrong, mea culpa to you as well. Mea culpas are flying today!

please, do it for the children!

Well, TKO, welcome to
OUR WORLD here on DR.

Don't let Grandpa Vernon get you down. He's depressed, but it isn't his fault - he is a septugenarian with an age 60-something wife who services all the huts in his village. Plus, he hasn't been able to kill any baby monkeys in a while and he's famished.

Poor Children of America need better lobbyists.

Nice toonage from Joe and TKO, ta fer that.

Welcome to the Monkeyhouse, btw.

Be Well.

I love how Republicans try to spin this into an issue of immigration. America provides education, welfare, legal protection etc. However, because there is money to be made in health care, this administration will allow corporate pharma to write the legislation. The corporations see Americans as a "mark" for extortion, and the Republican Party is complicate in this crime...

Praise the F*cking baby Jesus on high, but let the children get sick and die...

I can't believe the BS I'm hearing. No one said ANYTHING about covering Hispanics or illegal aliens with this money. "S-Chip covers children whose families earn too much to qualify for Medicaid". Approximately 3.2 million is the number if I remember correctly. Does that sound like many illegal aliens to you? Most illegal aliens aren't making shit, and would be on medicare IF they were in the system, but they're not likely to be.

And before someone calls me a bleeding heart liberal, I'm just as disturbed by the influx of illegal aliens, and I think they should all be rounded up and shipped out so they can get in line like everyone else, but business won't let that happen because they like giving your job to someone making half what you want to make. Vote Democrat for worker's rights, and you'll see that ship turn around.

Praise the F*cking baby Jesus on high, but let the children get sick and die...

Let each country take care of its own children
Mexico is drenched in riches from oil, etc. and is THE richest country in all of Latin America.
Screw endangering the health care of our own U.S. citizens who are elderly so we an insure illegal alien kids (and their parents up to age 25!!!)from a country that can WELL AFFORD TO PAY for their own citizens' health care -- but won't.

Approximately 3.2 million is the number if I remember correctly. Does that sound like many illegal aliens to you?

It sure as hell does when I have to pay for for each of the health insurance and when the money for them is taken away from Medicare funds that are needed by U.S. elderly citizens and their physicians and hospitals. Good God -- paying for the health care of ALL illegal aliens here up to age 25!!!! Plus all the umpteen babies they will continue to have -- get real. WHY should we pay for them. Let MEXICO take care of them -- not us.

In Wisconsin this is called Badgercare, each state is different. It is for working legal Americans who do not have insurance with their company. But who make too much to qualify for medicare. You have to bring birth certificate to prove you are a citizen. Tax information showing what you make. If not for this there would be many more children without insurance in this state. Now what is wrong with children having insurance not all companies provide it anymore. IT DOES NOT COVER ILLIGAL IMMIGRANTS. Where do you get that from? If you have to get individual insurance coverage it cost $880 to over $1000 a month with anywhere from $1000-$2500 deductible per person with a office copay after the deductible is met and does not cover maternity that is seperate policy. And then only pays 70%-80% of the payment the insurance company would make. So in other words it does not cover hardly any of the bill if any.
I do not have kids at home but I see nothing wrong with covering all legal children until 18. It is not their fault this country is so screwed up.
Who do you think pays for Bush's insurance? We do. SO tell me again why the government should not be paying for children who do not have insurance?

get real. WHY should we pay for them. Let MEXICO take care of them -- not us.

Did you actually read DDenton's post? This has nothing to do with illegal immigrants and all to do with the poor kids in the U.S. that fall through the cracks.

But, since we are throwing in as much crap as we can, how about this. Bush and the Republicans have NO PROBLEM paying for healthcare and hand outs for Iraqis and war supporters often say that Sadam was evil, so we did a "humanitarian" thing. So, shouldn't these same "humanitarians" think that we should take care of everyone in our country (legal or illegal) until our government can get their collective head out of their ass and actually fix the illegal immigration problem (ie: fine the crap out of the employers)?

If we don't pay for the health care costs of illegals, what happens when they get sick and go to the emergency room??
The get treated.
We end up paying for it anyway.
We're really arguing about which pocket we take the money out of.
Meanwhile, employers lure more illegals in every day and the president does nothing to stop them.
Meanwhile I don't hear of very my employers being fined or imprisoned for hiring them.
Depriving children of health care won't stop the flow of illegal aliens.
Sorry, I want illegal immigration contolled but I still don't want to neglect children who need health care no matter who they are.
I pay taxes too.
I have health insurance too.
I have just learned that you don't blame poor people for doing what we ourselves would do were we in their shoes.
The rich love it when those of us in the middle class blame the poorest among us for the problems of the day instead of turning our attention towards those who have the money and the power to make things better.

Wisconsin this is called Badgercare,

Posted by dray at 2007-08-09 06:36 PM

Yes, but the Republicans in Wisconsin hate Badgercare too.

As a fellow Badger, I am curious to hear what you think of the Dems state health care proposal. I'm intrigued. I find it very interesting that it is government paid, but still looks like it would spur competition... I also "ran the numbers" for the small company that I ran for just over 5 years. Based on the "largest tax increase ever" that the Republicans cry about, it would have been a small decrease in costs for the company and a HUGE decrease in costs for employees (company paid 55%).

It actually sounds like a viable solution.

America provides education, welfare, legal protection etc. However, because there is money to be made in health care, this administration will allow corporate pharma to write the legislation. The corporations see Americans as a "mark" for extortion, and the Republican Party is complicate in this crime...

Posted by CaptainOfUranus at 2007-08-09 06:04 PM

As a side, corporations are getting rich off of education & NCLB too.

Sure Eric sounds like a great idea? Are you still living in the fucking tax hell known as Wisconsin?

Shame on the Democrats!

This is great opportunity to get good health car for children in the US and they want to use it in their battle for the Whitehouse. How foolish!

ERIC... "As a side, corporations are getting rich off of education & NCLB too"

However, the amount of money that the Corporate medical industry makes off of the average American is far more than (almost) any other industry...

This is why there is no universal health care in America: Corporations don't want the extortion to end...

to Posted by eric1111 at 2007-08-09 06:47 PM
Yes, I do beleive that if all the companies in Wisconsin had to contribute to the health care proposal that the costs would go down. The companies that now have insurance for their employees would pay less, but the companies and there are many would now have to pay and the employee portion would go down. It would be distributed over a wider base.
But the Badgercare plus they have been tryig to get in for years now has not happened thanks largely to the republicans. But their plan is nothing. There are a lot of working parents that can not afford the insurance premium so when their children get sick they do not take them to the doctor. That is not the way it should be.

I find the coincidence funny. In this article, Bush wants to deny healthcare to poor kids. In another article psted on Drudge, he sees 11 doctors for Lyme's Disease.

And don't forget, expanding prescription drug coverage! No problemo! EXPAND EXPAND EXPAND!

Depriving children of health care won't stop the flow of illegal aliens.

Sorry, I want illegal immigration contolled but I still don't want to neglect children who need health care no matter who they are.

Do you have the slightest clue as to the huge lure totally free health care up until aged 25 is going to be for EVERY SINGLE PERSON IN THE WORLD with a sick kid? Everybody in India with an chronically ill kid, in China, across the globe, will know that if they can just get to the U.S. illegally the American taxpayer will pay for their kid's illness for the next 25 years.

This cost is going to be huge -- $200 million just this time alone -- and will only get larger because they keep having more kids than anyone else in the country and more and more come here illegally.

CAN YOU TELL ME WHY you think it is more fair to give free health care until age 25 to an illegal alien family with 3 kids AND to their illegal alien Daddy and Mommy who might be under age 25 (are ages 18-25 "cute and cuddly little sick kids" too?) than is to to EXTEND this health care instead to include more AMERICAN CITIZENS by dumping the illegals off of the costs?

If dumping the illegal kids off this program and making their own country of Mexico pay for them instead we could extend the coverage of this program to MORE AMERICANS.

Why should an AMERICAN father age 33, who is working full time but doesn't make that much money and has no health/prescription insurance, has two kids under age 7 and a wife who works part time to make ends meet and who has diabetes and/or some other costly illness not be treated or get medical help because instead we chose to include millions of illegal aliens (UP TO THE "CUDDLEY AND CUTE" AGE OF 25!) instead of him? Hmmmm?

You still didn't say why anyone's mother or father or grandparents, or any other U.S. senior citizens who are on Medicare and are now seriously facing the threat of losing their physicans (and hospitals) due to cuts in Medicare payments and will face further cuts in order to insure illegal aliens kids who shouldn't even be in this country but are here because their own country of Mexico -- although filthy rich -- doesn't want part with its own money for their own citizens.

Get real - -we can't be a free health care provider to the ENTIRE THIRD WORLD. And that's exactly who will be here by the millions once they know we will guarantee free health care for them.

We should extend this program to include more Americans at a higher age who are within this income bracket, are ill, uninsured, and desperately need a bit of help rather than give it out to illegal aliens. No one wants a cute and cuddlely kid to be sick but grow up -- we can't insure the whole f--KING world -- especially at the cost to our own citizens.

That is not the way it should be.

Posted by dray at 2007-08-09 07:28 PM

Health savings plans have to be the dumbest way to "fix healthcare" ever put to paper. I can't believe anyone can propose that as a cure with a straight face.

However, not all companies would do better under the democratic plan. Since it includes a payroll tax to pay for health care, it would help companies that currently pay a portion of premium. However, companies like Walmart (and others that thrive on part time / no benefit workers) would see an increase in costs.

Still, something has to be done...and the people that we elect refuse to work together to do anything.

The rich love it when those of us in the middle class blame the poorest among us for the problems of the day instead of turning our attention towards those who have the money and the power to make things better.

Posted by danni at 2007-08-09 06:46 PM | Reply

We know where the blame lies -- with the employers who hire them, with a treasonous president who refuses to guard our borders, with the racist ethno-radical groups with their own la raza agenda, etc. etc. -- but will starting a NEW BILLION DOLLARS worth of MORE HEALTH CARE PERKS FOR ILLEGALS start stemming the flow? No. It only adds to the huge problem we have already and entices even more to come here.

STOP THE CONTINUING PERKS. WE ARE OVERWHELMED NOW.

In a vacuum, in a civilized land not totally numbed by a pageant of GOP atrocities, Bush's new gaffe would lead to overthrow of the government. But WE can no longer feel ...

Still, there's a special place in hell for the posters who would differentiate between "legal" and "illegal" children. The DR's righties would leave 'em to perish on the road. That, in itself, would not be enough punishment for them. herm

CAN YOU TELL ME WHY you think it is more fair to give free health care until age 25 to an illegal alien family with 3 kids AND to their illegal alien Daddy and Mommy who might be under age 25 (are ages 18-25 "cute and cuddly little sick kids" too?) than is to to EXTEND this health care instead to include more AMERICAN CITIZENS

CAN YOU TELL ME WHY you can't understand that this is not a "program" that gives handouts to illegal aliens. It is a program that helps to fund what STATES are doing to help their citizens. If the STATE has controls in to curb abuse by illegal aliens, then it does what you want it do do.

So, are you saying that we shouldn't do ANYTHING about health care until we "fix" the illegal immigration problem? I hope that isn't the case, because we face lots of problems that need to be fixed. It would be nice if Dem and Repub could get together and come up with a REAL solution (not one cobbled toghether to attempt to appease everyone). Unfortunately, we are stuck with people who don't want anything less than the unrealistic - round them up and ship them out tomorrow approach.

This is why there is no universal health care in America: Corporations don't want the extortion to end...

Posted by CaptainOfUranus at 2007-08-09 07:15 PM

Just what is it you think corporations are? You think it's an IT? Corporations are people, and my guess is that you either work for one or contract to one, unless of course you work for the largest corporation of the corporations, ie, the govt.

If you don't have 70 bucks a month for a health policy on a kid, don't buy a new car or buy or rent more house than you can afford. Drop the cigarettes the beer and eat some fu---n hamburger instead of t-bones.

If you don't have a car or a house or a job, don't worry, you already have health coverage, it's called medicaid.

Nobody has to try hard, EVERYTHINGS FREE! Right, left? We can all be miserable together...

You want to see the model of socialized medicine vist a VA.

Fu---n bunch of whiney ass liberals. Misery loves company. Ship of fools indeed.

Since time immemorial groups of great apes have attacked other groups of great apes who have impinged on the piece of forest which is perceived as their territory. Many of the posts on this thread remind me how really close we are to those apes.

It makes one proud to be an American.

Posted by Incubus_Con at 2007-08-09 07:45 PM

OK Incubus, how about this.
I ran a business that employed full time people. We paid 55% of health care premiums. Yearly increases in premiums bled us fucking dry. The business was doing well, but it was hard to keep employees happy because they were losing money each year as premiums increased. We switched carriers (with employee input) at one point (to avoid a 150% increase). It was a real pain in the ass for everyone because hospitals can't get their shit straight (my doctor's network kept trying to bill the old carrier for at least 6 months...even though I told them on 3 distinct occasions that my carrier had changed. I ended up getting letters from a collection agency before it finally got cleared up. I had good, loyal employees leave for bigger companies because I could not compete with benefits.

Why couldn't I compete? Because I had less than 20 employees...not 1000+, so my options sucked.

We may have good healthcare, but our system is fucked up. There has to be a better way. Of course, people like you will say that any "change" is a hand-out to lazy poor people.

Instead of whining about socialized medicine, it would be nice if people would acknowledge that the system broken and have an honest discussion (perhaps with some testing of different options) about how to fix it.

My first step would be to tax the hell out of insurance company profits. Why are health insurance companies "for profit?"

For a while in Wisconsin, the biggest office complex (sq ft per person) belonged to American Family Insurance. I used to drive by another insurance HQ frequently (Acquity?) and they have a huge freakin' glass atrium running down the middle of their building...Glad to know that my premiums are buying something.

"Corporations are people..."

No, Inky, they're not. It would take more space and longer words than you could handle, but corporations are computers, programmed for maximum profits. They don't do nice. Somtimes they decide that it is profitable to make nice on a very short term basis because then people will like you and buy more of your stuff. That's where the costly PR people and spinmeisters come in. But anyone who expects a human reaction from a corporation needs to repeat Econ 1A. herm

"Corporations are people..."

Spud thinks Inkydinkydoo is speaking in a legal sense.

Corporations are like people in a legal sense.

Well, except fer the fact that they are potentially immortal, transglobal and ammoral. You do sorta get a human reaction from them but only if one presupposes a psychopathic human in the scenario.

They are, at present, far more impactful on the political process than the actual will of the actual people.

That's gotta stop.

Be Well.

I was hopping you libs would take care of my kids for me.

Posted by Sniper at 2007-08-09 04:22 PM | Reply

If you were poor, why should your kids suffer because of it?

Of course we would take care of them. They deserve it.

But of course in right wing america they are shit out of luck so that billionaires can have another tax cut.

So, are you saying that we shouldn't do ANYTHING about health care until we "fix" the illegal immigration problem?...

No. I didn't say that at all. Keep this program and help the U.S. citizen kids. Do not extend it to include millions of illegal aliens all the way up to 25 years of age.

We now by law provide emergency care for everyone. I know that for a fact because illegal aliens have managed to close the doors forever to 81 badly needed hospitals and emergency rooms in Los Angeles County in the last 5 years because they overwhelmed our medical services and do not pay ONE single dime toward their own health care -- although they sure find the money to send back home to their own country (where their loyalty lies) -- by the billions$$$$.

Bush this past week just announced he was giving MILLIONS AND MILLIONS OF DOLLARS to Mexico to supposedly help them fight their drug war and the drug cartel violence on the border. BS. Everyone who knows the slightest thing about this knows the millions (of our tax money) Bush is sending to Mexico will end up in the pockets of the Mexican President and his political buddies. If Bush were half way sincere about fighting drugs he would not have cut the National Guard on the border IN HALF two weeks ago.

The point I am trying to make is Bush has millions of our tax money to hand over to Mexico and Bush knows that money will not be used to fight drug wars in a country that is a 100% narcostate but Bush refuses to give our states a single dollars to help pay for the HUGE medical costs overwhelming these states to pay for illegal alien health care. Illegal aliens cost California alone $9 BILLION last year -- a lot of it in medical costs. Will Bush help my state or yours? NO. So now we are suppose to expand the SCHIP program to insure more illegal aliens and incur more millions?

Keep this program and help the U.S. citizen kids. Do not extend it to include millions of illegal aliens all the way up to 25 years of age.

Posted by CalifChris at 2007-08-09 08:54 PM

Good - I'm glad we can agree on that.

Also, I understand and share your frustration with immigration. What compounds the frustration for me is that I don't really blame the illegal immigrants for coming. I do blame our government for being incompenent and not able to come up with a solution.

So, I agree with you that they should not be here, but I also think that until we (country) get our head out of our ass we need to treat them as humans (ie: provide emergency medical treatment)

If Bush were half way sincere about fighting drugs he would not have cut the National Guard on the border IN HALF two weeks ago.

Posted by CalifChris at 2007-08-09 09:02 PM

I didn't know this. Wow, that is insane. I wonder if he was under pressure from some of his "frat buddies" that did coke with him years ago? I really can't think of any other reason to cut the NG on the border (did they head to Iraq).

Yes, bush has plenty of money to help Mexico and other pet projects, but not a dime extra to help needy Americans (see the housing thread). Compassionate Conservatism at its finest.

Unless, of course, they have to go to the emergency room because they were unable to get preventative care. Since they can't pay for the ER visit, it gets passed on to you.

But, hey, I have absolutely fantastic health insurance, so fuck all of you.

Heh, you pro-life folks say the darndest things.

Pro life doesn't mean pro life after birth. It means pro life prior to birth. At birth it ends. The baby is fair game at that point. At least that seems to be the position of rightwingers.

Is it your job to pay for police that patrol my streets?

*****Bush Vows to Veto Children's Health Bill ******

................what a prick................

Just out of curiosity, where in the article does it talk about providing coverage to illegal aliens?

make sure that you are getting ALL THE FACTS on this and not just reading punks like krugman in his last article.....

this bill is bad because........
1) based on raising tobacco taxes and here in texas we raised taxes on tobacca and cig sales have gone down by almost 30%
one dem governor we had decided to charge 200 for vanity plates, for instance rather than 25 ......and now almost noone has them just as the tax on large boats closed more than a few builders and it took a republican governor to throw those out. point is that in both cases....THE STATE LOST MONEY because they taxed the shit out of people and they stopped buying them.
2) millions of retirees are enrolled in these programs so it would increase the health care cost of seniors to pay for schip.....so we are pitting the oldest against the youngest....doesnt seem right.

3) schip available to families making EIGHTY GRAND A YEAR.......and that doesnt seem excessive to some of you??.......now thats not a whole lot for a family of 4 or 5.......especailly in a liberal tax tax tax world............but come on......

this is another nail in the womb to tomb world of liberals who are out for a national health care system by any name.

and I believe that I heard that the children on this could be as old as early 20's.....now that's is really crazy.

and you can try and make this issue into a bush hates kids schtick but that would be just more liberal bullshit that vernon and I can 'set you straight' on.............

ONNA made a serious point

......Herr Bush refuses to secure the borders so that his pals can recruit low wage wetbacks.......

......Our Dear Fearless Leader does everything for the benefit of the 2% to the growing poverty of the rest of us.........

......still, lucky for him, he has his Faith Based Pinheads who swallow his transparent propaganda like lemmings........

BLT is probably some low paid hack working in the White Cellar sending e-mails to shore up this criminal administrations credibility.........

Bush's policy creed is: "get it while you can, the rapture will be here soon anyway". But you gotta be an insider to participate.

Yes, unsecured Borders are to allow cheap Labor to migrate over and increase Profit for his Pals - always the Goal!

Also - THE TOP 2% are all living in GATED COMMUNITIES and do not have to be concerned with the growing number of American impoverished, desperates that are "forced" to consider Crime to support themselves and Families. Selfish!!

And, of course, they FREE Criminals too soon - ever see the RAP sheets with many multiple Crimes - and say "We don't have $Money for expensive Prisons"
- But, We have $Trillions to Waste in IRAQ??
LUDICROUS!!

CLINTON CARES about ALL Americans and funded and supported "COPS Programs" and "3 Strikes"
- which GOP rubber stampers abolished
Too expensive - need more important TAX cuts for the Wealthiest!

DRAY I agree with. I saw a program on C-span's Washington Journal that outlined the entire bill. It has the actual person who wrote the bill and recited all the propaganda lies, like illegal alliens $83,000-Truely I wonder about those that soak this crap up.

To bottom line it, this bill will cover the bottom 20% that are legal and cannot afford insurance with jobs they have.

I would like to see it taken from putting a tax of carbon emissions and anything that increases the production of hazzardous waste and garbage in our dumps like too much plastic and packaging. If it cannot be recycled of composted, you should be charged for disposing of it.

Same thing for farming, if you are using pesticides, you should be forced to pay higher taxes to account for people washing that down the drain and forcing that carcinogen on families and the rest of the eco system.

Use that money as an incentive to clean things up and pay for health care of the very poor. Who in the heck could have a problem with that. Would you rather they use the emergency room and then jack up your health care cost from $100 to literally $5,000 to fix a broken leg. This will also put the breaks on insurance companies and hospitals from being able to bill a fortune for treatment that never works. Both hospitals and insurance companies would havde to be accountable for their treatment as well.

dear right wing idiot

So, Bush doesnt care about kids.

whats the big suprise? he doesnt care about black people either.

and Cheka, who says Socialism has anything to do with the right of the state?

Socialism refers to a broad array of doctrines or political movements that envisage a socio-economic system in which property and the distribution of wealth are subject to control by the community...

en.wikipedia.org

that bit about individual responsibility sounds a lot like you've taken the effect and made it the cause: as in "It's your fault im rich have made it impossible for you to afford health care"

Hmm... How about Abortion and Terry Schiavo?

Let's hope that the 2008 election goes to the Democrats so we can reverse this move towards socialism and government intrusion in our lives.

this country is swerving unerringly towards socialism"

It's about time.

""but this country is swerving unerringly towards socialism and then the death of america""

We'll start heading toward socialism right after we pass through bankruptcy.
EVEN WITH HEALTH INSURANCE YOU CAN LOSE EVERYTHING YOU WORKED FOR WITH ONE MAJOR ILLNESS.
LOSE YOU JOB AND YOUR INSURANCE GOES WITH IT

Even the blowhards who preach against national health care will likely one day face financial catastrophe due to medical expenses.

"Let's hope that the 2008 election goes to the Democrats so we can reverse this move towards socialism and government intrusion in our lives"

RFLOL...The Democrats have traditionally been the party of socialism and government intrusion. you think they're going to change their feather now? Not that the Republicans are any better. They say they are for smaller government and less intrusion. But in practice they're really socialists too.

"but thats what america stands for ... the right of the individual not the right of the state...."
"Hmm... How about Abortion and Terry Schiavo?"

Abortion... right of the mother (individual)
Terry Schiavo... I don't really understand this reference, unless you're attributing her death to the state. but in all reality, nobody has the RIGHT to demand others keep them alive. They only have the right to demand others not intentionally take their life.

The Dumbing-Down of America Continues

Why do Republicans hate American children?

They say they are for smaller government and less intrusion. But in practice they're really socialists too.

you are confusing socialism with totalitarianism, LT

But you do point out an important fact to keep in mind: there isnt one bit of difference between a D and an R when it comes down to it. the rhetoric is at odds only because preaching differing doctrine allows us the illusion of a choice.

""Why do Republicans hate American children?""

Have you met some of these children???

Unless of course it is the airline industry for billions in handouts.

Or the oil cos for billions in handouts and free drilling rights.

Or the mining industry with no enforcement of safety regulations and the rollback of the same regulations.

Or the banking industry with billions of dollars of handouts.

Or the pharm industry that gets to write its own legislation that does not allow Medicare to negotiate with it.

Etc....

In Bushworld "personal responsibility" is only something for suckers.

......where's that darn remote ..........

Co-incidentally.....just ran accross an article in Newsweek-*******

So why did the federal government quietly decide last year to drop out of an international study that would compare U.S. high-school students who take advanced science and math courses with their international counterparts?

The study, called TIMSS (Trends in Mathematics and Science Study) Advanced 2008, measures how high-school seniors are doing in algebra, geometry, calculus and physics with students taking similar subjects around the globe. In the past, the American results have been shockingly poor. In the last survey, taken in 1995, students from only two countries--Cyprus and South Africa--scored lower than U.S. school kids.

So you trust the numbers coming from India, China, Russia. Can you verify them. Your comparing the test scores of their elite schools and kids with the public schools in US. How is it that most kids in India and SE Asia don't get opportunity for education past 6th grade, but they score higher on standard tests than US high schoolers. The answer must be more money for the schools so they can hire more administrators to manage programs about how to deal with global warming. Tool.

Look towards the bottom of this article. Math 15th, Science 16th.

Did you READ what the test was that we dropped out of? TIMSS-Advanced. It is an international comparison of "advanced" kids. We dropped out because a poor showing hurts the illusion that we are the best in everything.

One thing that could HELP us do better in science would be to value it...unlike the current anti-science administration.

So, we should put less money into schools? I'm sure that would do wonders for our economy in the long run. Just because we are at the "top of the world" currently, don't think we are entitled to that position for eternity.

Most administrators I know "manage" programs related to reading and math. Since NCLB doesn't test science, many schools have de-emphasized it.

Perhaps Bush should have offered to negotiate earlier instead of an outright veto threat now. I agree, $80K doesn't seem poor and 25 is not longer a child.

However, you have to remember that this came out of the Legislature. When you look at their financial backgrounds, $80k is poor. When you look at their behavior, any age is childish.

No asshole, don't you know the law yet? Illegal aliens get free emergency room care. That is LAW. But then some kumbaya retard like you wouldn't know the difference between giving illegal aliens a health insurance policy providing ALL medical care for free from the day after their birth until their 25th birthday versus a one time need for immediate trauma room care -- so what can we expect.

Are YOU going to pay, Hermito, out of your paycheck for health care for 30 million illegal aliens?
Is Hermito willing to throw his own elderly relatives out of health care as his parents and grandparents and other relatives and friends lose their physicians and hospital access due to massive cuts to them in Medicare payments in order that illegal aliens Lupe and Juan and their 15 kids can get free health care while Juan sends almost all his paycheck back to Mexico instead of helping to pay his own health costs in this country.

Or is Hermito so ready to throw senior citizen AMERICANS under the bus because Hermito already has ALL of his (or her, whichever the case may be) health insurance covered by the taxpayers of this country?? A fat guaranteed for life health care plan as some Bush government worker? Or could it be that Hermito -- who would love nothing more than to turn the entire U.S. medical system into a giant 3rd world HMO -- himself an illegal alien who uses our emergency and trauma rooms like his own private doctor's office as he sucks off the public teat even though Hermito isn't even in this country legally? One wonders why Hermito CONSTANTLY puts illegal aliens and their welfare over and above the welfare of every American citizen.

Still, there's a special place in hell for the posters who would differentiate between "legal" and "illegal" children. The DR's righties would leave 'em to perish on the road. That, in itself, would not be enough punishment for them. herm

Hermito -- don't be a racist and only talk about taking care of 20 million illegal Mexicans under age 25!!! Shame on you.! You forgot to include in your post about how one should not differentiate between legal and illegal childen but left out the 2 billion children from China who now could now come here illegally and get free health care until age 25, or the 45 million children from India who could now come here illegally and get free health care till age 25, oh and don't forget all of the millions of children under 25 in Africa hell, according to Hermito, bring 'em all in here and crush the medical system until there is nothing left for anybody. Right, Hermito, you anti-American kumbaya joke.

free health care is in Canada, Europe, Japan, other places not USA. so all those Mexicans are headed for Canada, right.

I wasn't making ANY statement as to the composition of the Congress... I was making a statement as to THEIR pushing their bills through with a "Hell no, we won't negotiate" attitude.

The only reason that they've modified ANY of the bills that they've passed for submission to signature is when they've been threatened...

I just think it's a joke, after they talk TOUGH to their constituency about pushing something through that they KNOW won't even make it past the Senate (also currently Dem) and then you all complain when there's a veto threat.

Lastly.... kind of a big jump from what I posted to saying that I "hate America"... don't you think?

ONNA-HERM

Here's your non-Rush talking points showing that for the first time illegal aliens can now -- at each state's choice -- be included in SCHIPS to the detriment of U.S. citizen senior citizens who have had their Medicare program payments slashed in order to cover illegal aliens. READ IT. Hope the very pro-illegal alien U.S. Chamber of Congress is good enough proof for you.

U.S. CHAMBER OF CONGRESS ARTICLE SHOWING THAT ILLEGAL ALIENS ARE ELIGIBLE FOR THE FIRST TIME FOR SCHIPS PROGRAM

"Lastly.... kind of a big jump from what I posted to saying that I "hate America"... don't you think?"

typical bob response, prob. If you don't agree with him, you are unamerican. That's not the first time I've seen him throw that line at those who disagree with him, and considering his lack of imagination, it won't be the last. Wear it as a badge of honor!

I said show the legislation, so I get shown a editorial from a political group with an official sounding name, typical for a Rush follower. so why can't you quote from the legislation?

why are right wingers so ___________?

in the actual legislation there is only one sentence that mentions immigrants, here it is:

"New State Flexibility for Coverage of Children and Pregnant Women: States are allowed to cover pregnant women and older children, as well as legal immigrant children and legal immigrant pregnant women, who otherwise meet the requirements for coverage under CHIP. States are given a new option to cover family planning services without a waiver."

go to congress to read the bill.

you are more than welcome to be against this legislation, but be against it for valid reasons, not phony immigration issues. Be intelligent, ignor Rush.

INCUBU_CON ... "Just what is it you think corporations are?"

A corporation is a legal entity that shields its members, or stockholders from legal and civil liability. Furthermore, the corporation is legally considered a "Juristic Person" which enjoys many of the same rights and privileges as a "real person". The difference is that a corporation cannot be incarcerated for breaking the law on behalf of its stockholders. In fact, if it is more profitable for a corporate entity to break the law than to abide the law, or to disregard: human rights, worker safety, labor laws, environmental regulations, consumer protection regulations, employment regulations, etc. the corporation MUST DO SO or be open to civil action by its stockholders ...

INCUBU_CON ... "You think it's an IT?"

Yes I do "think it's an IT". Unfortunately the law sees "IT" as a person ...

INCUBU_CON ... "Corporations are people, and my guess is that you either work for one or contract to one, unless of course you work for the largest corporation of the corporations, ie, the govt"

Corporations aren't "people". Corporations are legal entities that act on behalf of their stockholders (who ARE people). And, if you knew me you'd see the inherent humor of your presumption...

INCUBU_CON ... "If you don't have 70 bucks a month for a health policy on a kid, don't buy a new car or buy or rent more house than you can afford. Drop the cigarettes the beer and eat some fu---n hamburger instead of t-bones"

I don't have children, I drive and own used vehicles, I smoke cigarettes, and I am still for the S-Chip program ...

INCUBU_CON ... "If you don't have a car or a house or a job, don't worry, you already have health coverage, it's called Medicaid"

I do, I do and I am self employed ... And, I do not have any health coverage.

INCUBU_CON ... "Nobody has to try hard, EVERYTHINGS FREE! Right, left? We can all be miserable together..."

Well, you've obviously never been poor. And, if "EVERYTHING'S FREE" why would anyone be miserable? I think what you meant to say is: "(everyone else) can be miserable together (as long as the Right doesn't have to)" ...

INCUBU_CON ... "You want to see the model of socialized medicine vist a VA"

Yeah ... Nothing is too good for our veterans, (as long as the Right doesn't have to endure the same), right, Right? And actually, a better example of socialized medicine is Canada, and most Canadians wouldn't trade their medical system for any other model ...

INCUBU_CON ... "Fu---n bunch of whiney ass liberals. Misery loves company. Ship of fools indeed"

Well, being a political centrist I can't speak for Liberals. But, the main difference that I see between the Right and Left is that the Left is willing to try to ease the "misery" of their fellow Americans, while the Right would opt for allowing them to starve in the streets to enhance their own bottom line...

What the Right doesn't realize is that a better overall economic position for every American ensures better economic growth for our society as a whole. Therefore, an overall increase in the bottom line of all Americans will result in growth of the bottom line of the Middle Class, as-well-as the wealthy and the super-wealthy ...

The ideology that an economic helping hand to the "have-nots" will have a negative impact on the bottom line of those that "have" is a myth perpetrated by the Corporation. This "myth" is designed to create an uneducated labor-force, and a separate indentured consumptive market; which is the ideal economic environment for the Corporation: SHIP OF FOOLS INDEAD ...

Here is some advice. Guys - Keep it in your pants. Ladies - Keep your legs closed. If you can't afford to take care of your kids stop banging or at least wear protection. Don't make your irresponsibility my problem.

I work my butt off and I am tired of being taxed into oblivion so I can pay for more benefits for illegal immigrants.

OMG - Repubs panties in a BUNCH!! SKY is FALLING!!

"Illegal Aliens" - who pick the FOOD you eat may be able to have Healthy KIDS..!?????
WOW! That could cost like a $BILLION Dollars or TWO!??

FREAKING RepubTARDS are paying $TRILLIONS to FUND ILLEGAL ALIENS NOW - CALLED IRAQIS!!!!

$100S OF BILLIONS to HALLIBURTON to build 160 Medical CENTERS for IRAQIS!
- of course, they STOLE the Money and only built 20

$100s of BILLIONS for GUNS and AID for IRAQIS
- of course, Halliburton GAVE them to INSURGENTS so DUMBYA could blame IRAN for "arming insurgents" and fed our Troops SHIT water instead

$100s of BILLIONS for HALLI to build BRIDGES and STRUCTURES in IRAQ to be Blown up and Re-built
- BUT DON't DARE build ONE Bridge, Levee or ANYTHING to help AMERICANS tho

WTF do you RepubTards have TOTAL SHIT for BRAINS!???

UTASTAFF... "I work my butt off and I am tired of being taxed into oblivion so I can pay for more benefits for illegal immigrants."

Well, if you don't smoke cigarettes then S-Chip won't affect you anyway...

And, 63 cents a pack isn't "being taxed into oblivion", and this is from someone who smokes and DOESN'T have children...

And, in this bill, the states are responsible for verification of citizenship: Write to your Governor...

do right wingers bring up "illegal immigrants" on this legislation to prove their stupidity, or is this a Rush talking point. no matter they refuse to read the legislation, they still accept a phony aspect (illegal immigration) as part of this bill.

Illegal immigrants are included within the provisions of the SCHIP bill. Below is a link providing the numbered provisions with the SCHIPS legislation that would provide that health plan to them by eliminating any request for proof that one was in the country legally.

Here are a some of the provisions within the linked article:

The Children's Health and Medicare Protection (CHAMP) Act would expand the existing State Children's Health Insurance Program - more than doubling it in size - and "improve beneficiary protections under the Medicare, Medicaid and the [SCHIP] program."
...
"Illegal immigrants are about to get an unexpected boost thanks to the Democratic Congress," House Minority Leader John Boehner (R-Ohio) said in a statement Thursday.

"The Democrats have a proposal that not only raises taxes on middle class families and slashes funding for a popular Medicare program ... it eliminates the requirement that persons applying for Medicaid or SCHIP service show proof of citizenship or nationality."

Calling the bill "poorly crafted," Boehner said the proposal would "dole out billions of dollars to states who then have the option of whether or not to verify that a person is an American citizen before providing taxpayer-funded health benefits like Medicaid and SCHIP....
...
The other two sections have potential applicability to illegal residents. Section 143 would give states the option of requiring proof of citizenship for enrollment in the programs. Opponents say the provision allows states to "return to a system of blind trust."

The third section highlighted by the Republicans, Section 233, provides grants for translation services. Critics argue that this could enable illegal residents with a weak grasp of English to take advantage of the provision allowing states to not require proof of citizenship. Opponents also argue that it rejects efforts to "encourage national unity around the English language."

Rep. Tammy Baldwin (D-Wis.) mentioned one of the disputed provisions during her opening statement during the committee's markup Thursday. She praised Section 143, which grants states flexibility in determining proof of citizenship for applicants....

ARTICLE ON CERTAIN SCHIPS BILL PROVISIONS REFERRING TO INSURING ILLEGALS

The minute you take out the requirement that used to be in the bill where one had to provide proof you are here legally the bill then guarantees that all illegal aliens in your state are eligible for this program if the state wants to do so. I guarantee you that California's politicians would guarantee this program for all the illegals in that state.

Chris - Read 5 Posts UP and WAKE UP!

You are so concerned about those who live among us and work to FEED you having HEALTHY KIDS!?

BUT - You and fellow RepubliTARDS have NO CONCERN about $TRILLIONS for IRAQIs and MEDICAL Centers, GUNS (200k) for Insurgent immigrants, Bridges, buildings and Structures!???

notice how right wingers won't give quotes from the actual legislation only opinions from those against the legislation. is that because real quotes won't support their ignorance or maybe they are smokers. come on righties show your ignorance we deserve a good laugh.

OONA

You're a fool who obviously does not have the educational level to be able to understand more complex documents. I've given you the two provisions numbers in the SCHIPS bill allowing in illegal aliens whne you asked for proof earlier -- now YOU provide YOUR proof that these provisions do not do that:

SECTIONS 143
SECTION 243

You stated below what you claim is FACT

...won't give quotes from the actual legislation only opinions from those against the legislation. is that because real quotes won't support their ignorance...

PROVE IT. GIVE US LINKS TO THE ACTUAL LANGUAGE IN THE BILL OF SECTIONS 143 and 243

In order to make that statement you must have seen the "real quotes" of the legislation because you said those two provisions are not what the U.S. Chamber of Commerce said they were nor the staff writer of the Cybercast News article said they were. YOU PROVE IT.

GIVE US YOUR LINKS TO THE ACTUAL LANGUAGE of provisions 143 and 243 of the House's SCHIPS bill that proves you are not lying and that the authors of those two articles wrote false information.

I've more than proved my point -- you do some research for a change and prove what you're stating or else stop lying about it. I'll narrow it down for you -- these are in the House version of the SCHIPS bill. You can google, can't you?

I did the research, and read the bill. it does does not say what your opinion states, really easy to see actual bill, but you won't . you claim you know what it says and you are the one that won't quote the actual bill

like I said right wingers won't read or quote where the bill supports illegal aliens, they can't.

show me the money, jerk

The legislation doesn't provide care to illegal immigrants...

However, it does reduce the verification process at the federal level, leaving it up to the state to establish the threshold of acceptance...

This does make it easier (in theory) for illegals to access services under the S-Chip program...

I think that the states will obviously attempt to require some form of proof of citizenship. But, I do see the point the Right is making, though I believe it is being blown out of proportion...

The simple fact is: even if the S-Chip is accessed by illegals, in those cases the preventative medical care provided will be far less expensive to American tax payers than the alternative, which is emergency/immediate care...

If you've seen the bill, where's the link to the bill's language?

The illegal alien provisions are within the House bill. Here is a DIRECT QUOTE from the House floor on August 1, 2007 as the bill is being argued on the House floor as given by Congressman Joe Barton (R-TX). If you are looking for the actual words "we will give SCHIPS to illegal alien children" you will not find them in the bill.

THE KEY WORDING giving all illegal aliens the ability to get in on this bill is in the language where the SCHIPS bill -- FOR THE FIRST TIME EVER -- ELIMINATES the former language in the bill that individuals must prove they are in the country LEGALLY before being able to qualify.

Use your brain, OONA, and ask yourself just WHY would the Dems for the first time ever ELIMINATE that langauage requiring that one prove they are here legally in this country. Duh? Even YOU might be able to figure that one out.

Now I suppose you are going to say this congressman is lying too:

Congressman Joe Barton on the House floor
August 1, 2007:

...Yesterday, on the floor some members spoke about how this bill would pay for services for illegal immigrants. With no true way to refute that assertion the majority [Democrats], in the managers' amendment that was released after midnight this morning, added a new section that states that no Federal funding can go towards paying for care for illegal immigrants.

That was a nice restatement of current law, but it does not change the fact that this bill eliminates the requirement that States verify a person's citizenship before they are enrolled. If we don't verify citizenship, this new section is meaningless. The bill even eliminates the 5-year waiting period that legal immigrants must wait before being enrolled in Medicaid, effectively inviting more illegal immigration.

During the morning session, member after member of the majority rose to say that this bill is about children. I ask my colleagues to show me where in this bill limits this Children's Health Program to children. They can't, because the bill will continue the discredited practice of siphoning off money from children's health care to buy health care for adults. We had amendments filed at the Rules Committee to ensure that SCHIP dollars go toward children, not adults, but these amendments were banned....

I don't give a damn. Let SUPER RICH Mexico pay for them instead of shoving their poor over here by the millions for us to pay for them.

The Democrats CUT $200 million FROM Medicare payments to physicians and doctor's payments and put Medicare patients are great risk for their access to health care sbecause many physicians and hospitals said they cannot afford to continue in practice if the Medicare payments keep on being cut. CUT $200 million to put that money in the SHIPS bill instead just so we can insure millions of illegal aliens' kids that aren't suppose to be here in the first place??? Stop screwing over American citizens -- of all ages -- to pander and grovel to illegal aliens. Mexico is the richest country in Latin America and all they do is send their poor over here to leech off us -- starting with our most vulnerable citizens on Medicare. THINK OF AMERICANS FOR A CHANGE.

I ask for a quote from the bill, all to no avail, because finding a quote that supports your view is not possible. just keep quoting right wing talking points but avoid the question I asked, it must be really hard to find where that bill supports illegal aliens, because you refuse to show any part of the bill that supports your position.

is that since you can't be against the kids, the illegal story gives you reason to oppose this bill.

make claims what the bill says then refuse to read the actual bill which cannot support your position, only quote 3rd parties, that is stupid.

remember, it was bi-partisan

since some people can't find or won't read the bill here is a link to the actual bill:

dear right wingers, don't read it

I ask for a quote from the bill, all to no avail, because finding a quote that supports your view is not possible...

If you knew how to read you might have a clue. You would have to get -- side by side -- copies of the two bills -- the old bill from last year's program and the new bill the Democrats are pushing thru for this year. The new bill LEAVES OUT THE LANGUAGE IN THE OLD BILL THAT REQUIRED PROOF THAT ONE WAS IN THE COUNTRY LEGALLY. get it yet?

I really can't be bothered answering your posts on this anymore because your stupidity is irritating. Either you're as dumb as a brick or you can't figure out that no longer requiring proof of legally residing in this country lets millions of illegal aliens be eligible.

All you do is come back and whine about the bill's language but are too thick to see that the KEY to this lies in the language that was TAKEN OUT OF THE OLD BILL -- NOT IN LANGUAGE INSERTED INTO THE NEW BILL.

I'm not wasting my time any longer because I'm afraid this is too legal for you and over your head to get it.

OONA8

< i> because finding a quote that supports your view is not possible...

There are a ton of quotes you've been given on this thread supporting not my 'view' but FACT-- including one directly from the House floor. stop wasting my time. I'm off of here on this issue. You are not worthy of any debate because you never can come up with a shred of proof to prove your statement that illegal aliens will NOT be included in this SCHIF so why waste my time. it's beyond boring now.

it's fun to bore stupid people, especially those that quote opinions and call them "FACT", that is a right wing trademark, and they are proud of it.

it's fun to bore stupid people

Then Chris is having a lot of fun. You are so stupid to think Chris is "right wing". He isn't.

here's a typical news story on this bill, note that
"illegal immigration" is not mentioned.

Bush proposed a $5 billion increase over five years. Last week, the House voted 225-204 for a $50 billion increase over five years, and the Senate voted 68-31 for a $35 billion increase over five years. The Senate margin would override a veto, but the House's wouldn't. The two versions must be reconciled before Congress sends the measure to Bush for his signature or veto.

The top Republican on the Senate Finance Committee, Iowa's Charles Grassley, has said he'll try to convince the president that "common sense dictates not vetoing this." More than 20 Senate Republicans face re-election next year, and few want to vote against a popular health care bill for poor children.

S-Chip covers children whose families earn too much to qualify for Medicaid but not enough to pay for private insurance. The bills would make an estimated 3.2 million additional children eligible for S-Chip. Bush says this expansion is a first step toward government-funded universal health coverage.

***** I work my butt off and I am tired of being taxed into oblivion so I can pay for more benefits for illegal immigrants.
