Toddlers with few teeth have been known to eat 5 big birds a day.

What do they use in lead pencils nowadays?

Yeah, that was a wise business decision to move out of East Aurora, NY and Holland, NY to China.
CEO's are my heroes.
I'm sure that these
assholes helped grease the wheels when FP moved to China.
Remember, NY is bad for business because of all the "regulations". Keep repeating that to yourself and soon you'll have cottage cheese for brains like a good conservative.

Graphite. That is why when You are making Your pinewood derby cars You can run Your pencil "Lead" on the axles to lubricate them. It is always best to use a Number 1 "Lead" pencil because it is the softest.

Uhhhhh, lead pencils aren't really lead.
Graphite: look it up.

Too much red in Fischer Plice.

This didn't happen when toys were made at the North Pole by Santa and his Elves :(

I had a Fisher Price Cemet mixer and I got the "Bright" idea I was going to mix REAL Concrete in the blastid thing. trouble Is I guess I got bored and left it. I spent 2 whole weeks with a hammer and screw driver chipping away at the concrete. Boy that brings back memories.

The Communist Chinese killed our dogs and cats last year. Now they are trying to kill our children. So what does Bush do????

He cuts the number of inspectors down to the bone.

400 plus inspectors to inspect 20,000,000 loads of imports (the majority from China) -- according to Lou Dobbs a couple days ago.

How long are we going to let Bush free trade us to DEATH???

Well, at least you didn't leave one of your siblings sitting in the mixer. Could have been worse.

This didn't happen when toys were made at the North Pole by Santa and his Elves :(

Bush hates Santa.

The symptoms of chronic lead poisoning include neurological problems, such as reduced cognitive abilities, or nausea, abdominal pain, irritability, insomnia, metal taste in oral cavity, excess lethargy or hyperactivity, headache and, in extreme cases, seizure and coma. There are also associated gastrointestinal problems, such as constipation, diarrhea, vomiting, poor appetite, weight loss, which are common in acute poisoning. Other associated effects are anemia, kidney problems, and reproductive problems.

Blech! Kids don't need that.

Makes ya glad they took the lead outta gas though don't it?

When Toys Kill! Sounds like a Fox Special Report!

Big Bird with Avian Flu.
Slaughter-Me-Elmo!
Dora the Ghost Faced Killah!

Brrrrr!

Be Well.

I miss Leaded Gas. it smelt great and was better for valves and lifters. Oh well shit happens huh.

Is this an example of an asymmetrical war? or is China just a version of that creepy guy that has AIDS and purposely infects women because he's mad he has it? They poison they're own people, why not everyone else? Is there such a thing as an "asymmetrical war pig"?

As consumers, we have a hand in this as well...

...just the next salvo in the coming trade war.

It's getting to the point where it should be considered child abuse to give your kid a toy made in China. Toys contaminated with lead is more the rule than the exception.

Remember, NY is bad for business because of all the "regulations".

There's no such thing as a free lunch. When factories move to China and everything is cheaper, it didn't happen by magic. It's because everything is now lower quality, made with lower quality materials, and frequently contaminated with industrial waste.

American factory workers lost good paying jobs so people could save $2 on a toy and give their kids lead poisoning.
A fair trade my ass.

I would say boycott anything made in China but then you would all be running around naked.

Jeffn NOT if We made Our own Clothes. The catch however is making sure We buy American made Fabrics and needles and thread. Now THAT might be a chore.

Larry

Boycott Chinese goods they ask for their money back and then insist they will only buy oil in Euro's.

How ya gonna finance the war then when the dollar devalues by 30% overnight.

What's our trade deficit with China 800 BAZILLION?

I've a question for all the complainers: Do you go out of your way not to buy Chinese? If not, don't complain.

It's like WalMart. We all hate 'em, we all bitch about 'em, none of us wants one in our neighborhood, but we all shop there anyway 'cause they have a cheap product.

As long as we let the conservatives tell us that the free market is king and that it will self regulate. Sure after how many pets have died, how many children have brain damage due to lead exposure?

Keep on drinking the kool aid right wingers that corporate america spoon feeds to you.

How many people have to die from e-coli and salmonella before the right wakes up? I suppose it goes along with their mantra.... "as long as it helps ME then it is okay, fuck everyone else".

I just find it amazing that we have traded the safety of our food supply and products for a $300 tax cut and five cents off at Squalor Mart.

CEO's are my heroes.

Mine too.

Never in the course of history has a group of individuals have been rewarded soooo much for doing soooo little. Their crest of arms should be Uncle Sam bending over, because they are giving it to America up the ass on a daily basis.

I can see it right now in MBA programs all over the country, the focus groups on what country to outsource too next that is even CHEAPER and LESS REGULATED than China.

talk about kismet china became a member of the wto on 9/11/2001.....strange

Do you go out of your way not to buy Chinese?

Yep. So I get to complain, thanks.

but we all shop there anyway 'cause they have a cheap product.

No, we all don't.

""It's like WalMart. We all hate 'em, we all bitch about 'em, none of us wants one in our neighborhood, but we all shop there anyway 'cause they have a cheap product.""

Not true. I never ever shop at Walmart, not just because of political view point either. I went in one ten years or so ago....the store simply sucked. I don't stand in long lines by choice. If a store thinks so little of its customers as to expect us to stand in line for fifteen or more minutes then I don't ever go back.

I hope Mattell loses a bundle on this recall and that the stockholders see the loss too.

This didn't happen when toys were made at the North Pole by Santa and his Elves :(

Letter to Santa from Calvin (and Hobbes)

Dear Santa. Why is your operation located at the North Pole? I'm guessing cheap elf labour, lower environmental standards, and tax breaks. Is this really the example you want to set for us impressionable kids? ...

Sorry i couldnt find the actual strip...I'll work on it.

The emphasis should not just be on inadequate manufacturing in China; it should be on the US owners of the brand which allowed defective products to be produced and then sold under their brand name.

Companies may have avoided compliance and labor costs by manufacturing in China but they have not avoided the liability of producing defective goods. A few high profile, expensive lawsuits will cause many companies to re-evaluate the costs of manufacturing in low wage countries like China.

But those would just be show trials by grandstanding sleezy lawyers and just proving the need for tort reform.

With this latest fiasco in mind, join together to give a special "THANK YOU" to that great Democrat, Bill Clinton, who worked so hard during his tenure in office
for GLOBALIZATION. Perhaps we could get him to stand up and again recite the benefits GLOBALIZATION will bring us.

That's great..Let's bitch about China some more. Our worst scares over the last few years have been
e-coli found in hamburger meat from a packer in the south, again e-coli from spinach in western states and, recently, canned chili and meat with botchulism from a canner in the midwest...plus our bridges and other infrastructures are starting to crumble on their own...too bad we can't blame these things on China too..or Mexico or France or Saddam, etc.

which goes to a point i been thinkin about

geezer sounds like a paid blogger

push the agenda of the employer

lead based paint on child toys dont seem to matter to him

just who is payin geezer?

China isn't the only culprit in this.
See the following article titled:

If I was getting paid by someone, I'd sure be on this blog a whole lot more than I am...maybe as much as you. My point is not to take any of the blame off China or other countries that do not come up to our standards but to also look close to home as far as what the threats are. We have major problems here that we are paying little attention to due to a number of reasons, mostly political, and yet we want to keep looking for "bad guys" where there is little political risk.

I have yet to see any post of yours that offers any proof that you think before posting.

I've been avoiding Chinese goods for some time now. It's possible in regard to most items. I'm particularly fearful of "beauty products," eye liner and the like, that these creeps send to our wives and daughters. It's Wild West time in China right now.

But don't despair. Much of the money is being siphoned off by American companies. I think that more than 47% of the Chinese firms are joint ventures with the capital put up by foreign firms.

If Mr. Bush wants to encourage trade, then there should be some product safety laws for imported goods, and additional inspectors. I think that the adverse publicity both here and in Europe will cause the Chinese to take action to save their markets.

Many Chinese products seem to be defective. At one time, early on, the Chinese had much better quality control than India. Now, I don't know. But traders are devious people, and they'll probably find ways to circumvent attempts to control quality, and insure that their products are safe and free of toxins.

Parenthetically, pre-WWII, Japanese products were known as "junk" and were largely avoided. Being resourceful, the Japanese named a town Usa, and goods were shipped, "Made In USA (all caps).

The Chinese are pirates, patent and copyright violaters, reverse engineering products, mislabeling, and transhipping. I would like to see a list of foreign firms that are capital investors in Chinese joint vntures, the amount invested, and the return. I'll bet that there is some fancy bookkeeping involved to keep the "profit" from being taxed, by diverting the "profit" (not the income) to some international tax havens.

Now the Administrative branch is trying to say the responsibility of having safe toys rests with the parents.

True corporate lovers there.

Goatman,
I go out of my way not to buy from non local business.
I have stopped taking my kids to McD and BRGking.
Denmark rejected a bid to have KMart in Denmark. I have stopped buying coke and pepsi, and only buy Danish brands most of the time.
It is hard to get around buying made in China brands, but Denmark still has a really strong factory/industry economy, so it is possible to buy local on many products.
I have been wearing Levi 501's for 40 years and I guess I will keep wearing them even though they are all made outside of the US. That one makes me sad, to think that something as American as Levi's 501 jeans are made in China, Mexico, and Indonesia.
Globalism sucks!

Buy local!!!
Reject corporatism.

To you it's not worth it, Danni, but for the poor working mom who can afford to put a few extra groceries on the table for her kids or buy a litttle bit nicer winter coat for them, it is worth that extra 15 minutes in line.

Not everyone is as lucky as you. (this is the part where you blame Bush)

"I hope Mattell loses a bundle on this recall and that the stockholders see the loss too"

Now why would anyone want to see stockholders take a loss. Let's think. If stockholders take a loss, portfolios suffer. If portfolios suffer, so do investments and 401Ks. If retirement investments suffer, people won't have enough money to live on when they retire. If people don't have enough money to live on when they retire, they have to depend on the government for entitlements.

That's it! No wonder Danni is for stockholders losing! Government dependence -- it's the liberal's way.

The stock market is a fraud. Do you actually believe the numbers they post on the idiot box?
Everything on tv is bullshit. Everything.
The news is the biggest bullshit. Oh, my god! Britney shaved her head!
