I read earlier that he had a grand mal seizure so epilepsy was the first thing I thought of because that's usually what that kind of seizure is associated with -- at least to my unmedically untrained mind.

If it is epilepsy it's manageable with medication. Drugs like dilantin have been around since the early '50s. ($4 generic at Wal-Mart).

My first neurologist was a bastard who set my teeth on edge at our first meeting. I walked out and found another one, whom I have been seeing now for 3 months.

Tell me in socialized medicine how many neurologist could I have chosen from? How many would be allowed to practice in my town? If I didn't like the care would I be allowed to switch? If I didn't agree with the treatment plan would I be allowed to choose a different one?

Financially there is probably not another person on this blog that would be more helped by socialized medicine. However unless the above issues can be answered I'd rather pay

I know why I dislike the idea, but please tell me why you don't dislike it. If I were you, I would ask the Canadian citizens if universal healthcare is such a good thing or not. Apparently, it is not. Many Canadians are coming across the border to receive their healthcare in America because the waiting time for care in Canada is outrageous. Do you want Americans to wait for health care too?
