Drudge Retort: Red Meat for Yellow Dogs

U.S. military commanders said Friday the troop buildup in Iraq must be maintained until at least next summer and they may need as long as two years to ensure parts of the country are stable. "It's going to take through summer, into the fall, to defeat the extremists in my battle space, and it's going to take me into next spring and summer to generate this sustained security presence," said Maj. Gen. Rick Lynch, who commands U.S. forces south of Baghdad.

PS Great headline Doc

I swear I hope we can salvage something after Dubya gets done fucking it all up. I still to this day can not figure out how in the world ANYONE could still support this Manchild. I think I would start drinking heavily if it were Me. Maybe they will get a grip and wake up to REALITY. I guess the ole adage is true Once You go Bush You will need a thorough Douche.

Larry

There once was a Manchild named Bush
Who had so many followers that kissed His tush.
But many more saw Him for a Coward
For He wasn't at all honest like Ron Howard.
Time will work on their very hearts.
like too many stinking rotting sharts.

Larry

perhaps. What do ex-Gens. Swannack, Batiste, Zinni and "dpm say???

That should have been Odom, as in, "What do ex-Gens. Swannack, Batiste, Zinni and Odom say???"

Add Van Riper to that quartet. These should be Congress' "go to" quintet of advosers, along with Richard Clarke and Scott Ritter.

Bush and Cheney have a lot invested in this Iraq War. Something tells me that they're not going to walk quietly into the night.

They must know by now that the GOP is going down in defeat. (to yet ANOTHER Clinton . . . ouch!).

Would anybody be surprised if the U.S. suffers an attack of such magnitude to declare marshall law . . . right in the nick of time.

As CalifChris said not long ago, Bush is the most dangerous when he has nothing to lose.

I believe it. The anger in him is palpable and getting worse.

TwinPac Dubya is an unstable manchild. Hell He flipped off the reporters in public view for pete sake. He is the worst President ever bar none. I just hope we have something to salvage after His Reign of terror.

Larry

LARRY

IMHO, the Reign of Terror has only just begun.

Just wait until the facade slips off and we see what kind of ugliness is REALLY hiding behind that superficial smirk.

You don't think for a moment Bush and Cheney are going to walk away quietly into the night . . . do you?

I dread THAT thought TwinPac and nah Dubya and Cheney are too whacked out too crazy to let it all go. I just wished I knew why there are still supporters of theirs. Is it brain damage or just immaturity??

Larry

Thanks, AllAmerican. It was late at night, I ran across this story and it really, really, really, really pissed me off.

LARRY:

It's FEAR, my friend.

That's the only bargaining chip they've got left and will no doubt use it to the hilt.

Yep TwinPac which explains the Osama Bin Laden tape recently and that Zarwari one as well. The Bushites need to wake up before it's too late.

Larry

That white stuff "The Shrub" snorted in his youth was bunk.

Dealer said he ground up old dried white dog turds.

Went right to his head!

LARRY:

As well as Chertoff's psychic "gut."

Coke's often cut with baby laxative.

TwinPac the ONLY things My Gut tells me is when it's time to eat and that I need bigger Jeans. That is it. Not if We will be attacked again LOL

Larry

Maj. Gen. Rick Lynch, commander of the 3rd Infantry Division, said in an interview that if the buildup is reversed before next summer, the military will risk giving up the security gains it has achieved at a cost of hundreds of American lives over the past six months

If petraous comes back in September and reports that measureable progress and gains are being made in securing Iraq then the Congress should have no problem opening up the purse strings yet again ...after all -- the Congress does want America to succeed right? And they would never pull funding from a succesful campaign that is showing real progress in achieving our goals, right?

What is "success" in Iraq?

What are our "goals"?

How are they to be measured?

When do we know the "job" is "finished"?

Jon Stuart had a good segment showing Bush bragging about measurable progress every year since his infamous "Mission Accomplished" fiasco. If Petraous wants to hold on to his job, he'll keep the snow machine turned on.

It's a shame when one of the few programs where I can find honest news on TV is on the Comedy Channel.

Zarkov,

I get the feeling that in asking your questions, you believe there are no answers, and so you likely believe that the war is lost and the situtaion hopeless embracing defeatism as so many on the left do.
But I will give you the benefit of the doubt however that you really are interested in the answers, here's a few links to articles which may shed some light on them for you --They are by no means the end all and be all

What is "success" in Iraq?

What are our "goals"?

How are they to be measured?www.govexec.com

When do we know the "job" is "finished"?

Obviously the job would be finished succesfully when we can leave Iraq with a sustainable democratic government that over 80% of the Iraqi population voted to create.

I get the feeling that in asking your questions, you believe there are no answers,

Well, as is so often the case, you're wrong. I know there are answers to my questions. I just don't think you've provided any good ones.

What you call "defeatism" I call "recognition and acceptance of reality."

The entire Democratic strategy for 2008 is based upon failure for America in Iraq and there is no possible way that they can now publicly acknowledge reports of anything else. So, we can expect for the next 18 months that any positives must be considered administration lies and that America must go down to defeat to ensure the election of a new Democratic president.

So, we can expect for the next 18 months that any positives must be considered administration lies and that America must go down to defeat to ensure the election of a new Democratic president.

That about sums it up.

It is tragic that democrats would choose to put party over country; put party over the lives of our soldiers in harms way.

What you call "defeatism" I call "recognition and acceptance of reality."

zarkov, I'm sure the 160,000 troops in harms way love the "support" you are giving them by telling them that they have already lost, the situation is hopeless, and they have died in vain.

With friends like you, who needs enemies.

I'm sure the 160,000 troops in harms way love the "support" you are giving them by telling them that they have already lost, the situation is hopeless, and they have died in vain.

Real men can handle reality. There's no justice in being a fool.

"Yes, the situation in Iraq today is messy, Births always are. Since when is that a reason to declare a baby unworthy of life?" -- Amir Taheri

"With friends like you...."

Just curious. What will the surge do about all those Iraqi soldiers that moonlight as ethnic militia?

Ever ever Bush speak of such things? No? Because they don't exist, or because he just wants them to go away?

Consigned to that same deep, black hole all those missing billions went? When Bush says he's incurious about something, you know it's very important.

What about the idea the opposition largely lays low in response to an American show of force, as they have intelligently always done?

What about the widely anticipated fact we exhaust available troops for Iraq in nine months? How are those recruiters doing with all those Young Republicans, I wonder?

"Yes, the situation in Iraq today is messy, Births always are. Since when is that a reason to declare a baby unworthy of life?" -- Amir Taheri

Every utterance and initiative from the Bush Regime has turned out the opposite as predicted. This baby is stillborn, killed by an excess of hubris and ineptitude.

Bowa thanks for your boston.com "signs of success" from more than a year ago. Thats only two six months of last throes ago.
Says it all.

As for the "goals". If the report was a report card, since they "accomplished" about half of half the things they were requried to do Iraq would have gotten a 25% final mark. Assuming, of course, you gave bonus marks for them filling in their names correctly.

"Obviously the job would be finished succesfully when we can leave Iraq with a sustainable democratic government that over 80% of the Iraqi population voted to create."

Then our work is done, unless you propose we re-install governments and rewrite the Constitution whenever we don't like what they do.

sorry bout the oops.

zarkov, I'm sure the 160,000 troops in harms way love the "support" you are giving them by telling them that they have already lost, the situation is hopeless, and they have died in vain.

Bowa, I'm sure the 160,000 troops in harm's way --- a phrase you wingnuts parrot mindlessly to the point of robbing it of any real meaning ---love the "support" you are giving them by shoving them into a war of Bush's choice, without proper planning or adequate preparation, and lying to them about what it is they are supposed to accomplish and when what cannot be achieved will be achieved.

With friends like you, they need no enemies.

The Zarkov's of the world need to be hung every now and then to send the message that treason has it's consequences...

What have I said, prior to the time you made that idiotic post --- a classic example of McCarthyist rant --- that causes you to accuse me of treason?

You wackdoodles on the extreme right are very free and easy with such terms as "traitor" and "treason." What it translates out as, though, is someone who disagrees with you. It's as moronic as if I was to call you a "Nazi." Lame of thought? That would be applicable. But I don't know enough about what you do that passes for thinking to haul out the heavy-artillery language. Enjoy your Manichean universe, dunce.

well zark........lets see....the majority leader in the senate tells the world that we have lost this war on terror
and the left makes plans for our defeat and the leading democrat candidate wants the surrender plan given to her by the pentagon.......
we believe all those to be true and accurate statements.........and those sound treasonus to many of us.....as far as you personnaly....shit we dont know anything except what you write.....
so does the shoe fit or not?

Of course it's not treason. What the fuck is the matter with you boobs?

""well zark........lets see....the majority leader in the senate tells the world that we have lost this war on terror""

This just in.....Iraq did not attack us on 9-11.....thus it is not really, never was a part of the so called "war on terror." Even rude Rudy seems to be getting it....says we should take some troops back to....Afghanistan...finish job against Taliban and Al Quaeda....what is happening????
Even Rethugs realizing they were lied into a war that had nothing to do with terrorists....
Who will be the last man in America to realize the truth....
I'm betting on BLT.

BLT, how does outing a covert CIA agent, for cheap political gain, working on preventing terrorists from getting WMD sound to you? Patriotic? Heroic?

How about being totally incompetent in afghanistan, Iraq and the GWOT? Not treasonous, perhaps, though a pretty good reason to be fired. Lack of body armor, lack of troops, lack of IED resistant vehicles. Like you Bushies say, You don't send the army you want to die, you just send whatever you can, just not much of it. The failures in Iraq and afghanistan, and al queda's resurgence can all be blamed on one man, the Commander-in-Chief.
Opponents are just pointing out the reality. You, of course, prefer the delusion.

report from another site says that those pesky talibany boys have killed some germans.........
Gee, how can that be? Glorious Leader has been fighting the dress wearing camel jockeys in afghanistan for almost six years. Surely he's Commander-in-Chief enough to beat a small bunch of guys with no armor, no air force, and just AK-47s and a few RPGs. Especially after he called in NATO to bail his ass out.
Actually, he's not.
He found fighting al queda and the taliban too Tora-boring. And its so much less hard werk to let Pakistan be their R&R center than actually force them to do something about it. Besides, what else can you do with a billion dollars and a few F-16s but give them to al queda's buddies in pakistan?

If Petraous wants to hold on to his job, he'll keep the snow machine turned on.

I would imagine that the generals are holed up somewhere nice and safe.... and they, like BushCo, are very concerned about their stinking little legacies.

"BLT, how does outing a covert CIA agent, for cheap political gain, working on preventing terrorists from getting WMD sound to you? Patriotic? Heroic?"

Latest transmission from BushLover:

anyone want to bet that next summer the bushies will be saying then only need another 6 months?

Zarkov, I'll suppose an answer from you based on computation culled from numerous BLT posts...

"whrrrrrr"

BLT: Oh bullshit, she wasn't covert...

Human: Um, according to the CIA, she was...

BLT: Oh yeah, how 'come her neighbor knew she was an agent...

Human: Got a link?

BLT: Whhherrrrrrrrrrrr

....you on the left are all over the generals when they bitch about bush

BL2

So was Bush. Every general above 2 stars who dared dissent is no longer in the military.

Example: Gen. Eric Shinseki, Army Chief of Staff who led the NATO forces in Bosnia (a resounding success at ending a similar situation), was next in line to be Chairman of The Joint Chiefs. For telling Congress the truth - that we'd need several hundred thousand troops to maintain the peace post-invasion - was forced out.

Rumsfeld threatened to 'fire the next person who mentions post-invasion planning'. Exactly the type of planning that would have averted the catastrophe Iraq became. Not that the administration wasn't warned of all the pitfalls of their decisions.

Retired Gen. Jay Garner was fired and replaced by Paul Bremmer because among other things he didn't want the Iraq Army disbanded, ammo dumps unprotected, facrories guarded so people could get back to work, opposed deBaathification of all but the highest level Saddam loyalists and.on and on. Dissent was rewarded not with thanks for sage advice, but with walking papers.

This bullshit about Bush listening to his generals is news to most of us. Of course, now that his ass is in a sling and thousands of troops have come home in body bags after the "Mission Accomplished' by Bush/Cheney was to screw it up as badly as possible through unbridled arrogance.

Who will be the last man in America to realize the truth....
I'm betting on BLT.

Bowa by a nose, especially if he's related to Pinochio.

At this point, to insure a complete Democratic landslide come 11/08, perhaps it is regrettably best to just leave our soldiers in Iraq until next election day. It sickens me that heroic Americans will die due to rightwing intransigence. But if that is the way it is going to be, we at least should get an overwhelming liberal majority as a result, and hopefully get this nation back on a sane course.

This just in.....Iraq did not attack us on 9-11.....

uh no they didnt....but a little group called alqaida did if any on the left want to actually remember anything about 9/11...........so what if we provided a place for them to come so we can kill the bastards....fuck'em

I read the absolute best article yet I think yesterday and it would do all of you good to read it.......well unless you dont want to lose that investment in defeat...
charles krauthammer was spot on right with his latest where he talks about 'an american vision' in iraq.......
and he doesnt give lip service to each and everything the administration has done either, but it was in the houston chronicle yesterday the 20th.

and of course I dont expect too many of you to actually read it but thats okay....

Sounds dangerously close to "bring 'em on" to me.

Some people are beyond learning.

I don;t see how anyone could still support the death and destruction of Your fellow Countrymen over a lost cause. Cause if You STILL do You rally don't love them at all You just lack the fucking balls to admit that You was wrong and that We shoud "Know when to fold them know when to walk away" You Dig, At Some point You have to ask Yourself How much more blood must be spent to quench Your thirst for Human Blood. So How many Bushites How many more will it take to quench Your thirst?? 4000 5000 10,000 58,000 Deaths?? Give Me a Number how many.

Larry

Larry

I'm afraid it won't mean anything to them until we are at the 58,000 range.

The problem for them is it will be hard to get to that number without a draft. Except it might work if they bring in more airmen and sailors to patrol Baghdad. They might need to also move the Coast Guard over to the military as well.

They have their very own Catch-22.

Next summer? Just before the elections? I see.

It is tragic that democrats would choose to put party over country; put party over the lives of our soldiers in harms way.

A CLASSIC from Bowa.

If he had a mind that was not brainwashed by the White House and Fox he would be saying:

It is tragic that the Bush/Cheney administration would choose to put party over country, put party and their own skins over the lives of our soldiers in harm's way.

Bowa - just to remind the remnants of your mind (if any): The Democrats are not in control of the occupation of Iraq. Bush/Cheney are allowing the daily death of our troops to continue to feed their political cowardice.

Stop your pathetic attempts to make the Democrats the murderers. Bush and Cheney are the murderers.

Give Me a Number how many.

well lets see....how many do we have in the military....how about 80 or 90 thousand soldiers and ho lets say a million or so iraquis would do the trick. I mean as long as we got all the oil we need and its no more than 2 bucks a gallon...OOPS>..........
victory isnt cheap but defeat can be had with a swift pen.

and once again.....the right looks for success and the left banks on failure...
you figure it out

BLT there is no success to be had. This whole thing was lost the very second it started so please tell Me how many dead must die in order for Your thirst for blood to be quenched?? Give Me a Number not some spin.

I'm afraid it won't mean anything to them until we are at the 58,000 range.

The same foolishness is alive and well today - and the same still parrot the neocon mantra "We lost Vietnam because the American people didn't have the will." In fact, that's what that idiot neocon at the Pentagon just told Clinton.

These people never learn. They are fools that kill us all with ill-conceived plans, hope and a prayer. They never take responsibility for their fuck-ups and they blame everyone else for their stupidity.

You fuck the Sunni Moslem Al Qaeda by using intelligence to kill their leaders and presenting rational alternatives to kill their ideology. You don't invade a Sunni-ruled country where they have no presence and transform it into a failed Shi'a state so you can lure them there and deal with them militarily. They're a Sunni death cult with a plentiful supply of recruits. They specialize in asymmetrical warfare, they won't get tired of dying, they can't be beaten miltarily because they are not a conventional army.

As for getting fucked. It's about 30,000 Americans who have been directly fucked, about 100,000 more fucked at one remove and 300 million more indirectly fucked over whether they realize it or not. 25 million Iraqis have been totally fucked. But what's that to people like Bush, Cheney, Krauthammer and BL2. A necessary sacrifice or a regrettable side effect of their Grand Design. Depends who they're trying to convince that day.

Yeah sure. Bowa and his ilk don't want the soldiers to know they are being duped by a gang of power hungry politicians. Better they die for an immoral and lost cause.

and if any of you dont watch fox news sunday because its fox really do miss out on something.
They just completed a debate on iraq and it was spirited and interesting with both sides making good points.
there is usually a little tete tete between juan williams and either krystal or hume and today's was krystal and juan. both making good points.
its too bad that many of you miss out on that because of misguided bias towards one network.
for instance, the point of dems during this sleep over.....as maura pointed out.....why did reid want only the question of getting out brought up.....they had more than enough votes to pass something like someway to force bush into the iraq study group stuff but instead reid chose all or nothing and then they discussed why, politically, that was the only choice.
best sunday morning political show, some of you should watch it sometime

Thank you so much, Bowa, for this definition. It is just about as clear as the Bush/Cheney mantra that we will achive "victory" in Iraq.

Your definition of finishing the job will NEVER, EVER happen. Believe me and anybody who has the slightest knowledge of Middle East history.

So the job will never be finished by your definition, so what are we doing there?
