The U.S. command said today the highest-ranking Iraqi in the leadership of al-Qaida in Iraq has been arrested, adding that information from him indicates the group's foreign-based leadership wields considerable influence over the Iraqi chapter.

Nice Headline RCADE...

US CLAIMS capture???

""Highest-ranking al-Qaida figure in Iraq captured
Man tells interrogators that Osama bin Laden's inner circle has much influence over Iraqi faction""

So, they captured him and he just decided to tell them anything they want to know???

And the info was "leaked"???

There will be more to this story I think.

Actually Caldera, I hope the U.S. Military captures (or Kills) all of the leadership of Al Qeada. I just think they would have a better chance of doing it if they actually concentrated on where the leadership is...(note, they say "foreign-based leadership, that means "not in Iraq")

It's amazing that, although this guy was caught on July 4th, we don't hear about it today. How convient!

I think it is dangerously criminal how Bush, and seemngly so our military leaders are playing politics with ours and our soldiers safety.

Gee. They've caught like 30 "leaders of Al Qaeda in iraq' and haven't stopped them yet.

It's our presence in iraq that's fueling the fires of Islamic militantism, with our 'ally' Saudi Arabia leading the way with new fighters.

Just great W. Hey, isn't it high time we bomb Saudi Arabia or something?

So, they captured him and he just decided to tell them anything they want to know???

Who says waterboarding doesn't work?

Funny, if they know who the leaders of AQ are why aren't they going after them?

I have a funny feeling, any leader who is in opposition to the occupation is a leader of AQ.

It's amazing that, although this guy was caught on July 4th, we don't hear about it today. How convient!

I heard about it last week. Maybe you should stop relying on DR for all your news?

and you see the 'poo pooing' at work here.....have to make it look bad no matter what even if it means whining about..

they didnt tell us before now...
ohhhhhhhhhhhh poor you...
and do you think just possibly that our military doesnt want you and the whole world to know each and everything that happens or will that fuck up the NY times job of telling the enemy just what they want to hear........

and it will also be 'poo pooed' because as we see with report from gen lynch....its the LAST THING DEMS want to read or hear about.....ANYTHING that can bve construed in ANYWAY as positive is to be discounted and balked at........its not good for the party invested in defeat.

and then these same punks will LECTURE US about party over country

AGAIN??? How many times do we have to keep capturing the #1 guy????

I thought they killed this guy in an airstrike before? Or wait , haven't they captured him 3 or 4 times now?

what about Al Zarqawi ? I thought he was the leader of al queda in iraq?

Capture one and another grows back.

"Khaled Abdul-Fattah Dawoud Mahmoud al-Mashhadani, who was captured in Mosul on July 4, carried messages from bin Laden, and his deputy Ayman al-Zawahri, to the Egyptian-born head of al-Qaida in Iraq, Abu Ayub al-Masri"

They caught a delivery boy!

Woo Hoo!

Did they get to keep the pizza too?

Captured on the fourth of July and we're only hearing about this now because?

Prolly took them that long to translate him name.

The outnumbered Shia in Iraq seek help from the AQ out of wot they see as political neccesity. They accept them only as long as the foreign invaders continue their occupation.

The AQ are in Iraq because of, not despite, the US presence.

Be Well.

Newsworthy but not noteworthy. The US killed the last one only to have him replaced in short order. As soon as we knock one down, another pops up.

""Bergner said al-Mashhadani had told interrogators that al-Qaida leaders outside the country "continue to provide directions, they continue to provide a focus for operations, they continue to flow foreign fighters into Iraq.""

directions?? Uh, Baghdad is that way???
Focus?? Kill as many Americans as you can???
Flow foreign fighters....from Saudi ARabia.

AGAIN??? How many times do we have to keep capturing the #1 guy????

They have 30,000 #2's just ready to jump into the martyr's seat.

Now, I read that Al Qaeda/Iraq, which didn't even exist, is planning attacks on the U.S.

Bush is the best recruiting tool terrorism ever had.

Meanwhile, Bin Laden, Zawahiri, and the REAL Al Qaeda are hiding in plain sight.

Congratulations to the troops who captured him. Well done.

The time is right. Feed the media another story.

Instead of whining about how General Lynch isn't discussed, why don't you post it in the "Wednesday Nooner?" Of course, then you wouldn't have your theme for the day.

Just for the record, your story about the success in Anbar made it on CNN this afternoon - said that the military was hoping that it would be model for future successes in

Congratulations to the troops who captured him. Well done.

Islamic radicals are multiplying in Iraq like field mice.

Just when you've trapped 8 of them, 12 more show up in a week.

yes.......success in anwar and the brave iraquis who support us there are all at much greater risk if dems win and we set a date.......

allamerican.......sort of like when you have a box of killer puppies and as soon as you get two in another jumps out?????

noone said this would make them quit......but us quitting wont make them quit either......

Actually, it is more like when you have a box of killer puppies and as soon as you get one in another two jump out. Iraq is a great recruiting tool for fundamentalists.

noone said this would make them quit......but us quitting wont make them quit either......

Posted by bushlovertwo at 2007-07-18 05:31

So, you don't think the surge will make them quit? What the hell!?! How can you support it then? Is your attitude that we should keep throwing billions of dollars and thousands of american soldier's lives into Iraq indefinately because they won't quit?

I say "Bravo!" for capturing another Al Qaeda operative. Now, if the capture of one man makes every rightwingnut cream his pants on this site, imagine what a bigger troops surge might do!

And folks !! Standing 6' and weighing in at 160 pounds. From Saudi Arabia, please welcome the NEXT HEAD OF AL QAEDA IN IRAQ !!!!!.... (insert name)

BL2

I have never seen a killer puppy. Where do you find such anamolies?

There is no war to win in Iraq. Our presence is merely acting as the best recruiting tool Al Qaeda and Islamic militantism ever had. The numbers and our own intelligence services say so.

BLACKWATER - THE SHADOW WAR
video.google.com

These are the fuckers that are going to be rounding up citizens when martial law starts.

BLT doesn't get that part of it. He has a 2 dimentional brain(wash)

The whole purpose for the war machine to be there is to disrupt and create kaos, that way they can keep a permanent force on the ground.
And the next step will be to have another terror attack in the US so they can declare martial law and instate a draft.
A lot of people on here think Im nuts, and I hope this scenerio doesn't happen, but if it does then I guess they won't think I am so nuts. Of course by then they will have shut down most of the blogging on the net.

The timing and nature of this "capture" causes me a little pause.

I hope that all being said is true.

I am bothered in that everything is completely supporting the administration claims.

Everything is just so conveniently exact almost word for word Bushco line.

Ya gotta love it. Balls to the wall time for the rethugs and next thing you know some big ass important AlQueda person gets caught, Bin Laden shows up on a tape and a terrorist threat is about to happen any minute. Like fucking clock work.

ALLAMERICAN...you are or were NO officer in the miltary...i doubt by your statement that you were even in the miltary...what because if a general gets killed there will be no generals to fill his position??? you are a fraud

what because if a general gets killed there will be no generals to fill his position

Huh?????

This doesn't even make sense.

MONEY...OK i will put it like this...what you do not think the leadership will be replaced once they get killed or captured....plus that comment was for COL.ALLAMERICAN hahahahahahaahhha

Huh?????

This doesn't even make sense.

What do You expect out of a troll?? Grapes of wrath?? or any notable literary works??

Larry

JUDAS

The REAL Judas hung himself over his treacherous betrayal of a man who did no wrong to him. Kind of like George Bush has done to America.

Your choice of a User ID speaks volumes for the kind of person you are. Basically, from all the posts I've read of yours, my perception of you is that of a kid who needs something better to do with his time.

Ever consider joining up and going to Iraq? The Army is REALLY short of it's current recruiting goals.

it's only 117 degress over there today. Suck it up !! Let's get your butt down there if you have a diploma.

"The U.S. command said today the highest-ranking Iraqi in the leadership of al-Qaida in Iraq has been arrested"

I am so sure...this guy is probably some poor Iraqi street vendor that has never heard of Al-Qaida.

what because if a general gets killed there will be no generals to fill his position???

JUDAS

There was no 'army' of Islamic militants IN Iraq before we invaded. We CREATED it by our invasion.

As to whatever else you say, well... you're one mean spirited little man. You don't know anything about me newbie, but I do know that about you.

Judas is a troll nothing more.

Once again, Jesus' General has nailed it!

Our presence is merely acting as the best recruiting tool Al Qaeda and Islamic militantism ever had.

LOL

The liberal talking points are coming fast and furious on this thread.

"CNN correspondent Suzanne Malveaux matter-of-factly reported this week: "President Bush says the central front in the war on terror is Iraq. But when the U.S. first invaded the country almost five years ago, al-Qaida had very little presence. But the intelligence report says that has changed. Al-Qaida not only has become a dangerous threat, the intelligence community expects the terrorist group will use its contacts and capabilities there to mount an attack on U.S. soil."

Say, wasn't the attack of 9/11 an "attack on U.S. soil"? How could that have happened since we hadn't invaded Iraq yet? What a weird aberration. How about the attacks on our embassies in Kenya and Tanzania? How about the 1993 World Trade Center bombing? The taking of our embassy in Tehran?

Another CNN correspondent, Ed Henry, followed up Malveaux's report with the somber news that "the president was warned before the war in Iraq that if you go in and invade Iraq, you're going to give al-Qaida more opportunities to expand its influence."

Similarly, Hitler and Goebbels never had much to say about the United States -- not, that is, until we started fighting them!

But as soon as we entered the war -- taking the bait of Hitler's declaration of war against us, which Democrats are urging us to avoid falling for in the case of al-Qaida -- Hitler began portraying FDR as a pawn of the Jews. Soon posters started appearing in Germany showing the United States as a country run by Jews and Negroes. Fake dollar bills with the Star of David were air-dropped over Paris.

According to the Democrats' logic, FDR's policies made the United States less safe. Had Germany attacked us at Pearl Harbor? No. Was Hitler able to use America entering the war as a recruiting tool? Yes. Fighting the enemy always seems to make them mad. It's as plain as the nose on your face.

Democrats think they have concocted a brilliant argument by saying that jihadists have been able to recruit based on the war in Iraq. Yes, I assume so. Everything the United States has done since 9/11 has galvanized the evil people of the world to fight the U.S. In World War II, some Frenchmen joined the Waffen SS, too. And the good people of the world have been galvanized to fight on the side of the U.S. The question is: Which side are the Democrats on?"

That's not true -- I posted a link to her entire article.

Corky, what do you call "Al-Quaeda Deniers"?

Posting a link is one thing, Bowa - not posting the author's name at the end of a quote is impolite at least.

what do you call "Al-Quaeda Deniers"?

Poor spellers?

Foreign fighters of all varieties will have no place in Iraq once we have gone. Both the Sunnis and the Shias have made that clear.

But, as long as the Bush admin fear-mongering justification for this Mess 'O Potamia begins and ends with with al-Qaida, we will be told how dangerous they are to the US mainland from Iraq.

I don't agree with everything she says, but the quote I posted was spot-on

Spot on crazy that is.
The first line regarding CNN's Malveaux is factually correct. There was no Al Qeada in Iraq before we invaded. Now there is...and Al Qeada in Iraq may be planning an attack on U.S. soil (per the NIE). Coulter is playing to simple minds with her gibberish about Al Queda attacks before we invaded Iraq. I think everyone knows that Al Queda existed in Afganistan prior to our invasion of Iraq.

The stuff about Hitler and WWII...just plain stupid. Yes, Al Queda attacked us. They were based in Afganistan so we fought them there. Iraq wasn't connected. I think Hitler and Nazi Germany was a bit bigger threat to the world than Iraq was.

If you made a proper WWII analogy it would look like this. The Japanese attacked us so we declared war against them. Shortly afterwards, we shifted our attention to invading Australia.

ERIC1111's lame WWII analogy: we invade Australia???
Oh, I see, after totalitarian Australia fights a 10-year war with New Zealand and uses Mustard gas against them and its own aboriginals; after Australia invades Indonesia and is driven out by a coalition of 80 nations; after Australia continues to violate the "no-fly" zones and kick out the UN nuclear inspectors; after Australia continues to violate arms restrictions . . .

The DemoRats will stop at nothing to ensure a US defeat to the terrorists. How's it feel to side with the enemy?

I am assuming You are refering to the Iraq Iran war and subsequent Saddam Hussein Sanctions. Let us get some things cleared up shall we.

1 During the Iraq Iran War We helped Saddam Hussein gas the Kurds We helped Him Gas Iranians Hell we gave Him the stuff PLUS gave Him Tactical advice.

2.Next Saddam Hussein had a green light to invade Kuwait until the Saudi's pitched a bitch. then Saddam Hussein and His Military

3.The NO FLY Zones were Blatantly Illegal and Saddam Hussein had every right under the sun to shoot at Our Aircraft. I know You guys don't like to hear about that but it is the truth.

4. Saddam Hussein did not kick out the inspectors. He refused(Rightfully so) to work with the CIA Planted ones.

Need I go on???

Larry

4. Saddam Hussein did not kick out the inspectors....

LARRYMOHR

That would be George W Bush who gave them their walking papers while they were begging for 2 more months to complete the inspections.

If we could only catch Osama Bin Forgotten..... Bush and Cheney need their boogiemen i guess. No point in catching the most wanted man in the world is there? Not when you can deflect and start a war against the wrong guy and leave the one against the REAL villian unfinished.
