Drudge Retort: Red Meat for Yellow Dogs
Wednesday, July 11, 2007

For nearly 20 years, visitors to the Richard Nixon Library and Birthplace were told the Watergate scandal was really a "coup" by Nixon's rivals and the investigative reporting team of Bob Woodward and Carl Bernstein offered bribes for their nation-shaking scoops. Now, as the privately run library transitions to federal control, its new director is taking some of the whitewash off the scandal resulting from the break-in at Democratic headquarters in the Watergate complex in Washington and the subsequent White House cover-up.

Lying? That Democratic Party coup is still besmirching the good name of Richard Nixon even after all these years.

"Director Timothy Niftali recently oversaw the demolition of the revisionist Watergate gallery, including a section that said the scandal was a coup plotted by Democrats. The museum also told visitors that the infamous 1861/27 minute gap in one important White House tape -- a conversation three days after the break-in -- was because of a mechanical malfunction"

but will this new revelation change the world?

Every minute a new collage of images passing on the web is created. If you see something that catches your eye, click and be taken there. Makes me think of what it might be like to be able to "hear" the collective unconscious of the planet at any given time... or some such.

the south will rise again!

Um, it's The South has risen again!!

YYYYYEEEEHHHHAAAWWWW!!!!

The old Nixon Watergate exhibit portrayed the former president as having nothing to do with the break-in. It was his staff. It attempted to make the president look more sympathetic. I've visited there many times. They are now even selling copies of "All The President's Men" in the gift shop.

I'm glad they've made the changes.

20 years from now we will be lucky if we are able to decipher the truth of what has happend in the Bush Presidency...

The most secretive Presidency EVER.

Especially if Cheney has his way and is able to obliterate the records of what has gone on in OUR White House.

which is probably why Bush says The true history of my administration will be written 50 years from now, and you and I will not be around to see it.
George W. Bush

It will take us 50 years to figure it out if we ever do....

I've heard the effect of the ambient white noise when the exhibit's story line hits the 18.5-minute gap can be quite refreshing.

Dateline 2039

Library Spokesperson Scooter Libby of The Bush Library has announced today that it will cease lying about Iraq. All other lies will continue to be vigorously defended, unless Mr. Libby, age 83, is fired.

Nixon Library Stops Lying About Watergate

More than Nixon himself was capable of doing.

Doesn't the Nixon regime look good right about now? It was pure evil. No messing about with shades of gray, mere stupidity, internal agonies about corrupted souls. The Nixon mess was almost repaired by the time Reagan got in to continue the destruction. The Bush mess, sadly, will probably never be undone. herm

Nixon, Ford, Reagan, Bush, Bush..... mediocrity triumphs in the GOP.

So in 20 years the George W Bush Library will admit the Easter Bunny isn't real? Or that Goat was nobody's pet?
Hope GWB has passed on by then. The shock would kill him.

hhhiiiiiisssssssssssssssssssss sss

Either the sound of blank tape or Nixon speaking.

BTW: brilliant collage picture weblink, love to get a look at that program.

Sounds like the air coming out of W's ears. Or Cheney saying hello to his grand daughter.

Presidential papers could be in one central place such as the library of congress. Presidential libraries are a boondoggle.

Thats funny cause the democrats are still lying about Watergate!

Bill Clinton stealing FBI background files on top Republicans and selling us out to the chinese was just as bad if not worse than Watergate.

Wow, even a Clinton deflection in a thread about Nixon. It is OK that Nixon did something bad because Clinton will do something bad in the future.

It's a wonderful move that should help history and adress serious questions once and for all. The timing is excellent with Bush2 as a back drop

"Especially if Cheney has his way and is able to obliterate the records of what has gone on in OUR White House."

Maybe he can check with Sandy "Pants" Berger to learn how to do that.

"Nixon, Ford, Reagan, Bush, Bush..... mediocrity triumphs in the GOP."

You forgot Carter. Ah, but then, that was easy to do as he was only ONE of the TWO democrat presidents during all that time and less than mediocre at that.

Yeah, let's bash Carter cuz if we had listened to him we wouldn't need one single drop of ME oil today. He was crazeeeeee! Oh and how is that peace treaty between Egypt and Israel these days....still in effect...gee what's Dumbya's record on peace treaties in the ME???

"Yeah, let's bash Carter..."

Well, the poster was bashing Nixon, Ford, Reagan, Bush and Bush. I thought he probably had just forgotten Carter because he was right in the middle of all of them. Then I thought about it and realized he called them all mediocre and Carter WASN'T mediocre. He was in the "horrible" category.

"Mediocrity" was being kind.

yea that peace in the gaza is really holding up?

Doesn't the Nixon regime look good right about now?

Yeah, Nixon only lost one war, and, in fairness, he didn't even start it.
I'm sure history will have some interesting comparisons between Nixon going to China and Bush bowing to China in 2001.

""He was in the "horrible" category.""

Cuz he didn't break the law...ala Watergate, Iran Contra, etc.

Apparently you righties only like presidents who violate our laws.
