Sen. David Vitter, R-La., apologized Monday night for "a very serious sin in my past" after his telephone number appeared among those associated with an escort service operated by the so-called D.C. Madam.

Another wonderful example of a MORAL reTHUGlican!!! Will not say that there will not be Dems on the list. But at least they do not CLAIM to be the MORAL MAJORITY!!!
Wake up and smell the brimstone and hell fire. Oh, but it is ok, he asked for God's forgiveness and also his wife. Wonder who he went to first??????

Awesome, I can't stand David Vitter. I hope this ends his career.

well lets see? They already call Las Vegas sin city.
What can we call Washington DC?
How about, sins of the father city?

Maybe he was just comparing his prices with her.

Anyways, we should rejoice in the fact it was a woman this time.

I cant wait for the Democrat and liberal names that are also going to come out in this list. Will you say the same things about them...

I DOUBT IT....

Look, people make mistakes. To err is human. Nobody is perfect. The guy admitted his mistake to his wife, they got the counseling they needed to repair their marriage. Don't get me wrong I am not condoning what he did, however, the damage is too his family and nothing else.

Like Gore's son, the damage is to their family and should not be to anything else. The media just kills me when they try to railroad people who make mistakes in their life.

""I cant wait for the Democrat and liberal names that are also going to come out in this list. Will you say the same things about them...
""

I will if they are as big of a hypocrit as this clown. He pushes for Abstinence Education Programs though he himself uses hookers. Can you say scum bag???

""Vitter Pushes for Reauthorization of Abstinence Education Program

June 25, 2007 -
(Washington, D.C.) U.S. Sen. David Vitter last week authored a letter to the chairman and ranking member of the U.S. Senate Finance Committee expressing support for reauthorization of the Title V Abstinence Education Program of the Social Security Act. Twelve senators joined Vitter in writing in support of the program.

"This a valuable program with proven results, but it is nearing its expiration. We must reauthorize this program so we can continue the incredible strides we have made in teaching teens about both risk avoidance and protecting themselves from potential abuse," Vitter said.""

vitter.senate.gov

Army, I know David Vitter he lives down the street from me (when he is actually in Metarie), and I can't stand him. It is more personal than political.

Vitter wants to amend the Constitution to ban same-sex marriages. He even compared gay marriage to Hurricane Katrina. The fact that he thought so little of his own marriage as to expose his wife to skanky prostitute STDs is relevant. I hope voters throw the bum out.

Local radio shows are already calling for him to resign based on the premise that if you are going to put yourself up on the moral pedestal then you should live by those moral. His campaign chose to push morals and now he is an embarassment to Louisiana voters and should resign.

The act he sponsored is being used to teach kids about abstinence.

Please tell me you see the difference. As an adult he made a poor decision, the program was to teach kids not to make the same mistakes. In addition, the date you posted JUNE 25, 2007 was after he had already admitted his mistake to his family and received the counseling to help him and his family through the mistake he made.

Instead of railroading this guy, wouldn't it also be just as easyu to say look, here is an example of somebody that made a mistake in his past, admitted it, worked hard to overcome it, and has gotten back on the right path explaining to children though special programs why things like he did are wrong and one way to avoid them.

I know thats hard for some on the left to do since this guy is a republican; however, I think he is doing the right thing and making strides to repair both his image and his life. Give the guy a break.

Army de Uno, I won't maintain that Democrats are lil' angels and that this type of behavior is the sole realm of the Republicans -- we both know that's not the case.

What is true, however, is that the Republicans have marketed themselves as the party of morals (tm) and it's this type of hipocrasy that burns people's britches (or at least it should).

If any Democrat is on that list, and also has come out in "protection of marriage" or whatever the F that means, then I will be just as outraged. As I wrote: When that happens. I'll post it myself and be the first one to be angry, okay?

Tax, thats cool. i dont know the guy, never really heard of him before I read some of the related articles.

Is he just a prick to his neighbors, or just one of those, i'm to good to be around you type people.

You know like John Edwards out in Carolina...

Look, people make mistakes. To err is human."

The thing is though, there was no error, him seeing a prostitute is not a mistake. Nothing wrong with what he did.. he had cash and the madame provided a service of value to him.

The mistake he should be apologizing for is preaching religious and moral nonsense to voters... the voters dont need a politician teaching them about morals, they go to church for that.

Evash, ill accept that, but i will also give the guy or girl? a pass if they have already admitted the issue and have taken the necessary steps to heal.

Democrat, republican, liberal it doesn't matter. they are still people. They make mistakes and as long as they admit them and learn from them then I am fine with that and can accept their apology.

Now if they admit it and then end up on the list afterwards... well then... fire the bums...

Army, a little bit of both.

BTW I found this on the Times Picayune website:

Wendy Vitter in 2000:

In 2000, Vitter was included in a Newhouse News Service story about the strain of congressional careers on families.

His wife, Wendy, was asked by the Newhouse News reporter: If her husband was as unfaithful as former President Bill Clinton, would she be as forgiving as Hillary Clinton?

"I'm a lot more like Lorena Bobbitt than Hillary," Wendy Vitter told Newhouse News. "If he does something like that, I'm walking away with one thing, and it's not alimony, trust me."

Audry, the err was the fact that he committed adultery. He caused damage to his family and hurt the ones that loved him the most. I would say thats a pretty big Screw up... IMHO thats one of the biggest mistakes he made

As far as preaching religion to his constituents, thats life, 80 something % of this country is Christian. He is wrong for speaking out of both sides of his mouth and should rightfully apologize to his constituents for it...

Army, the underlying message here is that everyone should realize that the preaching of morals from politicians is bullshit. As they are telling you that gay marriage will destroy traditional marriage, stirring people into feeling afraid and angry, they themselves are demonstrating their lack of respect for the very institution they campaign to defend.

There is a difference between "we all make mistakes" and "we all purposely lie to you to get your vote."

"80 something % of this country is Christian"

So, screw the other 20 percent?

And of that 80 percent, how many simply identify themselves as Christian versus actually living as one?

TAX, now thats funny, Thing is though everyone can talk a big game, however, when it actually happens to you that is when the world finds out what you are made of...

Aparently she felt that she loved him enough that they could get through it. that love stuff is powerful thing...

-Army of One

Rather than dwell on this particular ass-hole's predicament, I would ask the larger question - WHY do so many assholes get elected to Congress?

Vitter will survive this. Bible belters love and adore wealthy and/or politically powerful "godly" men who admit sinning and tearfully repent.

I predict he will be re-elected.

By the way Army, has Gore's son been loudly preaching about the immorality of using marijuana the way Vitter preaches, scolds, and legislates against non-marital sex?

There are going to be Democrats on the list too. Some of them will play the God card too when they're exposed. It's much less likely that they will be hypocritically sponsoring bullshit abstinence programs though.

Does God really care, by the way? Maybe God has more urgent problems in Alpha Centauri or elsewhere in the universe and has delegated problems with Louisiana and Texas politicians to the Department of Heavenland Security - Immigration Division.

Instead of railroading this guy, wouldn't it also be just as easyu to say look, here is an example of somebody that made a mistake in his past, admitted it ...

You're giving him too much credit here. He didn't admit it until he was caught. That madam has been saying for months she'd release her phone records to the public.

Let's see how many dead-enders this "revelation" touches. Ah, faith is the rock we build our house on. Nothing can touch it.

Lord, please remove all of these from our government. We know how much you like being used like this.

I cant wait for the Democrat and liberal names that are also going to come out in this list. Will you say the same things about them...

Yup, see the Jefferson case as an example.

Using a prostitute is not only a moral failure, it is a crime. Should elected officials who admit to committing a crime be allowed to hold Office?
Did Hookerboy also turn himself in to local police, plead guilty and offer evidence?
Or did he just realise he was about to get outed and got ahead of the news curve, knowing he'll get the rightwing fundie forgiveness pass for saying the words "sorry" and "found Jayzuzz" in the same sentence?
Methinks the latter.

As far as preaching religion to his constituents, thats life, 80 something % of this country is Christian. He is wrong for speaking out of both sides of his mouth and should rightfully apologize to his constituents for it...

The role of politician is not that of a moral & spiritual guide. People go to church for that. A politician is elected to represent those people in government, those duties do not include "moral guidance" and "soul saving."

You're giving him too much credit here. He didn't admit it until he was caught. That madam has been saying for months she'd release her phone records to the public.

Do you know when he admitted this to his wife? I missed that in the article. and every other link i have looked at...

Well, he is a politician, so I want to know if he paid the prostitute with his own money.

"Well, he is a politician, so I want to know if he paid the prostitute with his own money."

Well, he IS from Louisiana so my guess is the money came out of a freezer somewhere.

Well, he IS from Louisiana so my guess is the money came out of a freezer somewhere.

This is one of the major things that sucks about living in Louisiana - at least Mary Landrieu is somewhat clean but she comes from a connected family.

Sometimes I just wish we could wipe the slate clean down here and start all over.

"Sometimes I just wish we could wipe the slate clean down here and start all over."

Didn't you guys have an election some years back between Edwin Edwards and David Duke where the bumper stickers read:

"Vote for the Criminal. It's Important."

Dan, yes we did, and I won't be surpised that when Edwards gets out of jail people will be calling for him to run again.

pass if they have already admitted the issue and have taken the necessary steps to heal.
Posted by armyof1 at 2007-07-10 10:01 AM |

YEAH!

But why does that "healing" and "necessary steps" never involve an admittance of guilt ----- until AFTER being caught!

Just more Fake Plastic "principles" in action!

Speaking of "principle", if I remember correctly, Vitter's wife, when asked about the Clintons predicament and if she would be as forgiving as Hillary --- responded she was more apt to be a Lorena Bobbet than a Hillary Clinton if her spouse had committed adultery!

Now she can put her "convictions" to task! But I suspect a full retreat from "principle" as most Fake Plastic do when pinched by their own rhetoric!

D.C. is a moral cesspool! The old " I made a booboo...oops..I got caught...I am ashamed...I apologize to my spouse and the voters" ploy. Let the people he represents pass judgement. As long as they are happy with him it is no skin off my nose....but!! I do so enjoy hearing all your outrage...gave me a much needed chuckle today.

Sometimes I just wish we could wipe the slate clean down here and start all over.

We tried. It was called 'Katrina.'

"Vote for the Criminal. It's Important."

....why not ?...Rep. William Jefferson, D-La

"We tried. It was called 'Katrina.'"

Define "we".

"....why not ?...Rep. William Jefferson, D-La"

Kerrin57,

Anything of substance to say to those of us who believe Vitter was wrong, and Jefferson is a crook?

Failing that, finding one or more left-leaning Drudgies who actually support Jefferson will suffice.

"We tried. It was called 'Katrina.'"

Define "we".

YEAH!

Why Verns, amry and David Vitter's "Christian" God of course! Silly!

Out of respect for my family, I will keep my discussion of the matter there - with God and them. But I certainly offer my deep and sincere apologies to all I have disappointed and let down in any way.''

* * * *

Sorry, not good enough. What goes on with you and your family is you and your family's business. But this was a public embarrassment to the state of Louisiana--a place not exactly foreign to such things, admittedly--but you need to step down. Immediately.

finding one or more left-leaning Drudgies who actually support Jefferson will suffice

Lots o' luck with that!

Ya gotta love the ol' "Democrats are bad too" deflections though.

Maybe Thomas Jefferson, but he was from Virginia.

But why does that "healing" and "necessary steps" never involve an admittance of guilt ----- until AFTER being caught!

Just more Fake Plastic "principles" in action!

Hey REDNECK, please provide me the link where you discovered exactly when he confessed to his wife. You don't have a damn clue as to when he admitted this. So knock of the FAKE PLASTIC RIGHT BULLSHIT.

It very easily could have been before the DC madam announced that she was going to release the info. Nobody knows for sure

CNN/MSNBC/Fox/cbs should ignore this story and focus more attention on John Edwards haircuts, that issue is gripping american audiences with endless intrigue.

"Confessed to his wife".

Not without a little "encouragement" from her, I imagine.

Army: Still haven't commented on Vitter's CRIMINAL behavior. Or, like Libby, are all Republicans above the law?

I wonder if any of us tried, "I apologised to God and my family, so the Courts have no jurisdiction" we'd get away with it.

Sorry but he very easily could have woke up after the event and said. WTF did I just do... He might have told his wife then. NOBODY KNOWS...

Army, he has skeletons in his closet, which is why he didn't run for Governor in 2004. Harry Lee - the Jefferson Parish Sheriff who basically runs southern LA politics - hinted that he had dirt on Vitter and the if Vitter ran for Gov. he would release the info. Harry Lee wanted Connick (yes, Harry Conick Jr's dad) to run for gov. and thought Vitter would be an obstacle.

He hired a prostitute. Had sex with her. that is what a class 2 misdemeanor. Maybe a $150-$500 fine... Wow, lets tar and feather him. Maybe we should throw a congressman or senator in jail for speeding or running red light or j-walking also. Come on now... He should be held accountable for the law that he broke an pay the appropriate fine but that is all... No different that anyone else.

LIBBY? OMFG are you guys still on that. The last thing the Democrats need is for the pardons that Clinton made to be scrutinized and brought to the publics eye.

Not morally, ethically, or anything along those lines correct though...

he has skeletons in his closet, which is why he didn't run for Governor in 2004

I thought was one of the qualifications that were required to be a politician. My bad...

Wait a minute here folks...lest you forget.....Clinton got a blow job.
There, now that is out of the way....carry on.

Besides him lying about it, under oath, I could give a crap less. At least somebody is getting one...

"The fact that he thought so little of his own marriage as to expose his wife to skanky prostitute STDs is relevant."
Posted by RCade

Did it say anywhere that he was not using protection when he had sex with the prostitute? That he was vulnerable to STD's, or that she had any?

A minor point, but there are other things to villify this man for than those you have no proof of.

The thing that makes his transgression far worse than anything Clinton did was that this guy is a fu..ing hypocrite! He is making laws for others to follow and passing judgement on people that he doesn't believe in. HOW DARE HE! He is no different that those other bible thumping SOBs that say one thing and do another.

If you are going to talk the talk, then walk the walk! Otherwise, STFU!

Here is a question.

Can anyone of us say that we have NEVER been hypocritcal in our lives?

If not, then aren't we just being hypocritical when we complain about other people being hypocrites?

Cheers

Good question, Grendel. However, I don't see a problem with holding those trusted to govern our nation to a higher standard than the average citizen. The precise reason we entrust them with the duty to regulate our behavior is that they are supposedly intellectually and morally upstanding individuals.

Can anyone of us say that we have NEVER been hypocritcal in our lives?

You apologist just don't get it. This man is in the business of influencing the lives of others. He is to be held to a higher standard otherwise you get the duplicitous behavior that is rampant among so many politicians.

TAXMAN

Any word on whether or not his wife followed through with her 'Lorena Bobbit' threat if he were caught with another woman. I guarantee that she at least took his balls over this.

Interesting, escort services are NOT illegal. Deborah Jeane Palfrey was accused in federal court of racketeering by running a prostitution ring that netted more than $2 million over 13 years, beginning in 1993. She contends, however, that her escort service, Pamela Martin and Associates, was a legitimate business.

Is accused the same thing as guilty? I don't think so. If he paid for her time as an escort, had a good time, were attracted to eachother...and they had consensual sex, is it still prostitution? If you have sex with a prostitute, and she doesn't except the $$$, is it still prostitution? Don't jump all over me, I'm just asking.

The precise reason we entrust them with the duty to regulate our behavior is that they are supposedly intellectually and morally upstanding individuals.

Do we? Or do we hold politicians to a flawless ideal that runs contrary to human nature?

We expect them to be perfect Boy Scouts or Girl Scouts, to always have been that way. Since these expectations are unrealistic but demanded, politicians must lie or cover up any indescretions or face being unelectable. When these discretions are found out, they then have seem even more corrupt because they did something wrong and then lied.

In addition, we expect them to be idealistic and stay true to their principles yet the very arena they are entering, the political one, is one that is governed by compromise--and one that often only allows one to stay true to a particular ideal by compromising another ideal. When this is discovered, they are labeled hypocrites or decievers even though they need to compromise in order to get anything done.

I know corruption is rampant in government, but maybe we should allow our politicians to be a bit more human--especially in regard to their past or their personal life.

Cheers

I guess it comes down too, what you definition of 'sex' is.

Any word on whether or not his wife followed through with her 'Lorena Bobbit' threat if he were caught with another woman. I guarantee that she at least took his balls over this.

I betcha one day there will be a Woman that Cuts off Her man's pecker and sticks it in the food processor so there is NO WAY for it to be reattached for being caught cheating on Her. It will happen. Mark My Words.

Larry

You do realize that you CAN get an STD even when using protection? This is why HPV and herpes are so common.

I do know the guy is pro abstinence education, I wonder if he's against teaching teens about proper use of condoms and birth control?

""I know corruption is rampant in government, but maybe we should allow our politicians to be a bit more human--especially in regard to their past or their personal life.""

I'm with you on that Grendel except for those who preach family values, etc.
If they do their jobs and pass legislation to help America run better, etc. then fine but when they start concerning themselves with the morality of others then they are open game. This clown is one of those family values hypocrits and he deserves to be forced to resign.

This clown is one of those family values hypocrits and he deserves to be forced to resign.

unless he publicly dis-owns the Bush family values, of course:>)

Grendel, with regard to a politician's past, I agree with you that it should not bar them from serving our nation today. However, while a person is serving our nation, I respectfully disagree with you that they should not be held to a higher standard. It is their job to govern our lives. I don't want a person with less morals than I have controlling my life, plain and simple.

BTW, Grendel, I am not necessarily against prostitution or many other behaviors that are against the law (drug use, etc). However, this man was well aware of the law and decided to break it. Being "simply human" is not a defense to breaking the laws or hiring a prostitute, especially when you are the person writing the laws.

Vitter's problem is that he ran a campaign based on family values and morals, he placed himself on that pedestal and now he wants everyone to ignore it when he falls. It has nothing to do with being a hypocrite, that is just a red herring.

"You don't have a damn clue as to when he admitted this."

YEAH!

Like the word of an adulterer is good and beyond scrutiny!

I mean, here we have a holier than thou "Christian" professing his views of "righteousness" to the slobbering heathen mass's ---- only to be later found out to have betrayed not only his commitment of trust to another human being (i.e. marriage and the crux of "family") but also betrayed his very own words spoken in font of a man of God, and in a House of God no less!

That (aside from betraying his word to his significant other) shows the depth and sincerity of his professed faith!

A man who claims to faithfully follow the word of god ----- lies to god in Gods own house!

Your defense of the man and the flippant way you disregard the seriousness of marriage and its role in family (i.e. TRUST) says allot about your "Christian" sincerity and commitment as well!

Since these expectations are unrealistic but demanded, politicians must lie or cover up any indescretions or face being unelectable.

No one is holding a gun to their heads and making them lie. They don't have to lie and they don't have to be elected. They may think that they have a right to get (re)elected but they don't.

"....why not ?...Rep. William Jefferson, D-La"

......sheesh...I was just getting into your bumper sticker from La. game. .But I understand that you would take it the wrong way..lefties are like that. Why didn't go go for the IQ bit again....soooo clever.

damn...screwed up... meant ..."Why didn't YOU go for the IQ bit again....soooo clever". Canning 3 bushels of tomatoes in 90 degree weather would affect anyone's IQ.

Your defense of the man and the flippant way you disregard the seriousness of marriage and its role in family (i.e. TRUST) says allot about your "Christian" sincerity and commitment as well!

If you read my post i am not defending what he. I am defending him as a person who made a mistake, admitted it, and ask his family and GOD for forgiveness. YES WHAT HE DID WAS WRONG... However, he is trying to make amends for it.

Please provide the link that told you when he admitted it instead of deflecting this onto me and slamming his religious views as well. The man made a mistake.. get over it. There are bigger things in DC than this guy having sex with an escort...

YEAH!

Senator David Vitter's website says he is "focused on advancing mainstream conservative principles"!

Says it all don't it!

"I am defending him as a person who made a mistake, admitted it, and ask his family and GOD for forgiveness"

YEAH!

Similar to how you came to Clinton's defense no doubt!
You really shouldn't be surprised when talk like yours starts meaning little to anybody with their eyes and ears open!

YES WHAT HE DID WAS WRONG... However, he is trying to make amends for it.

Saying he's "Sorry" after his phone number was released just indicates the true depths of his contrition.

ie. He's sorry for getting caught.

I hope voters throw the bum out

Spud too, hopes the voters kick him out for this.

Spud also hopes his wife gives him a kick in the nuts and the keys to the doghouse for this.

Larry's blender scenario seems a bit much, though.

Spud once read a story about a wife in Thailand who cut off her husbands penis and then tied the thing to a balloon and let it float away.

Crazy, but funny too.

Be Well.

HEY REDNECK, read my earlier post before your brain explodes out of sheer hatred for anything that is conservative or republican in this country.

I said other than Clinton Lying under oath, I could care less if he got a BJ in the oval office.

So Vitter's website says "focused on advancing mainstream conservative principles"!

Good, His focus is being put in the proper direction. He made a mistake in his past, he admitted it and now is going forward.

Again, can you prove that he only admitted it after the DC madam went public... NO you can't. Can you prove that he is not truly sorry for what he did... No you can not.

Therefore I Say STFU... with the BS rhetoric, of hate that you constantly spew here. You must lead a sad and absolutly pathetic existence if this guy having sex with an escort gets you and some of the other haters on this site this worked up...

I wonder if you got this upset when CLINTON did it. See how absolutly ignorant that sounds...

SPUD, the same things goes for your comment

Saying he's "Sorry" after his phone number was released just indicates the true depths of his contrition.

ie. He's sorry for getting caught.

PROVE IT... Please show me where you found the proof that he admitted to this only after the madam announced she was going to release the numbers. NOBODY knows when he admitted it to his wife and family. The truth is though that he did and he is working to fix the damage that it caused.

Adultery is a sin. Apologizing just doesn't cut it.

He should be tarred, feathered and run out of town. He's sinned against God. It's one of the fucking commandments!

Sincerely,

Ann Coulter

Actually in the Christian religion, yea it does. Admitting it, apologizing for it does cut it.

Army of Nuns,

Please show me where you found the proof that he admitted to this only after the madam announced she was going to release the numbers

Please prove otherwise.

Besides, he didn't admit to this "only after the madam announced..."

You fail to get the point.

She's been saying that for a while now. He didn't come out with this pre-planned damage control until a hour or so after the naughty numbers were being mass downloaded across the net.

Apologising for it does cut it?

True Forgiveness is pursuant upon True Contrition which does not seem to be the case here.

The larger question here involves how the religious right is apparently incapable of not forgiving the sins of their own kind but are so intolerant of others.

The contrast between the two behaviours show a clear lack of moral judgement on the part of the religious right as well as a shitload of hypocrisy.

Be Well.

HEY REDNECK, read my earlier post before your brain explodes out of sheer hatred for anything that is conservative or republican in this country.

YEAH!

If you mean "anything that is conservative or republican in this country" like spending tax dollars like a Hilton slut on a binge, adultery, habitual lying and unbelievably shameless Fake Plastic piety ----- then yes I hate it!

And let me make this clear! I have NO animosity towards REAL conservatives or republicans just as I have NO animosity towards REAL liberals and democrats either (I would like to hear you commit to the same)!

My beef is with those who betray or forward false "principle" simply to pander to a demographic (IE playing the "Christian" cause it garners votes)!
That's something in my opinion should infuriate anyone of REAL faith! Hence my hostility to your Fake ass and your Fake ass excuses for what IS simple adherence to "principle" and "conviction" (or in your case strategic abandonment of such when required)!

If you can't take the heat, don't stick in your meat.
If you're a by-the-booker, don't fool around with hookers.

Everybody falls from grace...everybody.

This matters to his wife but it should only matter to electors if they voted for him on the "family values" the Republicans choose to distinguish themselves from the immoral and godless Democrats in their election propaganda. So when their candidates run on such a platform and indulged themselves in immoral and godless behavior in the past or do in the present or future they will always have the hypocrisy sword hanging over their heads. Seems fair to me.

The "family values" Louisiana GOP establishment and voters will have a chance to give their opinion of hypocrisy in 2010. Those in the rest of the country will have their chance in 2008. It might be useful for them to recall Bush's "family values" stance and his pledge to restore honor and integrity to the White House while coming to a decision.

Guys on the right need lovin too.

So Vitter's website says "focused on advancing mainstream conservative principles"!

Good, His focus is being put in the proper direction

YEAH!

Like
"Family Values", "Sanctity of Marriage" and defenders of "Morality"

Funny, I never knew Hookers were a part of all that?

Just for giggles

During the 20th century, a host of social ills from divorce to teen pregnacy battered the families of America. Social conservatives would like to reverse those trends and once again strengthen the family as the backbone of a healthy nation.

The Family: Social conservatives believe the family is the backbone of a healthy society. The ideal family structure is a home where children are raised by both biological parents. A child raised in a home with both parents has the best chances of growing up into an emotionally healthy, educated, successful adult.
OOPS!

Sex Education: Social conservatives believe that children should be given information that will help them make wise choices about sexual behavior. The healthiest decision a teenager can make is to remain sexually abstinent until marriage. Abstinence is the best way to avoid unwanted pregnancy, disease, and a host of emotional, relational and spiritual problems that accompany sexual promiscuity.
OOPS!

Morality: Conservatives believe that traditional morality serves as the best protection against the ills that plague society. The government should encourage policies that promote morality and discourage immorality. Personal freedom demands personal responsibility, and liberty is no excuse for irresponsible behavior.
OOPS!
In Conclusion
Social conservatives have great compassion on people, but recognize that the best way for people to be truly happy is for the members of society to engage in healthy, responsible behavior, and to avoid behavior that is self-destructive. Traditional family values promote the highest good for individuals and for society as a whole.
OOPS!

Looks like you favorite guy, who has a wife but still goes out, and from the mouth of his children, PAYS for poontang ----- violated these tenants of "conservatism"! In essence he is what IS WRONG with society according to your own rules!

And yet it's all OK with you!

But don't worry, even though the actions of these heroes of yours and your subsequent defense of them undermines your believability as a whole ---- you will eventually blame someone else for it all!

Actually in the Christian religion, yea it does. Admitting it, apologizing for it does cut it.

That's what makes a good Christian---fuck and steal and lie all you want on Saturday and apologize on Sunday.

A minor point, but there are other things to villify this man for than those you have no proof of."

Katie - give Joe a break. He is, unsurprisingly, a virgin.

Redneck, Bob, I could easily rant on about how worthless both of you are andhow both of yopu have failed to see the point of my argument but I wont. instead i will simply say go back and read what i said.

For the intellectually challenged here is a Cliff Notes version

1. I do not condone what he did, it was WRONG

2. I'm glad that he admitted it.

3. Prove he admitted it after the Madam announced she was going to release the name. (OH WAIT YOU CAN'T)

4.Christianity is based on forgiveness for ones sins. The person has to be smart enough to not commit it again.

5.The listings about conservatism, HMM nice, they might have actually been derogatory towards him had he been caught by the phone listing, instead he admitted his mistakes so yea, he can say those things and actually mean them.

Did I miss anything...

Go figure, a Christian republican who "stands up" for families by fighting against same-sex marriage and has the balls to still bang prostitutes on the side.

Wow.

"3. Prove he admitted it after the Madam announced she was going to release the name. "

To his wife, or to his constituents? 'Cause he sure as hell didn't tell the people who voted for him until it was too late. And don't you think he owed them the truth, i.e., he wasn't really the "family values" guy he pretended to be, and when talking about abstinence, he was referring to everyone but himself...?

I'd be interested in hearing if this was a one-time thing, or if he was a Ted Haggard-type regular. Also, insofar as the Madame case, whether the Senator thought he was buying a date or buying sex.

4.Christianity is based on forgiveness for ones sins.

As long as you're a conservative who hates homosexuals and abortion, sure.

If you happen to be a liberal democrat who believes that everyone should be given a fair shake no matter where their sexual preferences lie and that a woman has the right to choose what is done to her body, nope sorry you're going straight to hell.

And we all know that there is a special place in hell for those liberals audacious enough to also be anti-war. Those fuckers are gonna burn extra crispified!

Haggard used male hookers, that's OK.

Go figure, a Christian republican who "stands up" for families by fighting against same-sex marriage and has the balls to still bang prostitutes on the side.

I guess the only thing braver is to fight gay marriage because it violates the sanctity of marriage, while banging gay hookers at the same time :-)

5.The listings about conservatism, HMM nice, they might have actually been derogatory towards him had he been caught by the phone listing, instead he admitted his mistakes so yea, he can say those things and actually mean them.

Did I miss anything...

Yeah, you missed that while he was making such mistakes he had said, was saying or would say those things without meaning them.

Hmmm...rumor has it that Cheney may be on the list. Only a rumor now, but wouldn't that be something.

4.Christianity is based on forgiveness for ones sins. The person has to be smart enough to not commit it again.

ARmy of Cheneys?

so you have to have brains to be forgiven of all sins?

I guess the only thing braver is to fight gay marriage because it violates the sanctity of marriage, while banging gay hookers at the same time :-)

If they allow gay marriage, guys like Haggard will be committing sodomy AND adultry. The sodomy thing they'll let pass I guess. Can't be committing adultry too. That would require additional 'cleansing'.

Excuse me....A d u l t E r y LOL

Resorting to purchase of what the marital bed does not provide is no misdemeanor in my book. But Republican hypocrisy ought to be a felony. Looking at this guy's voting record I suggest stoning the bastard. herm

whether the Senator thought he was buying a date or buying sex.

Since when are married men allowed to buy a date?
If he wanted to go out on a date, why didn't he take his wife out to dinner instead of a prostitute?

Explain how going on a date with another woman contributes to the health of the marriage and a happy family home.

maybe the wife wants a 3 some?

Why is it never a shock when it turns out that it is a family values rightwinger caught up in one these scandals? (Oh. That's it. Because they are all either stupid or completely hypocritical pieces of shit.)

"Oh. That's it. Because they are all either stupid or completely hypocritical pieces of shit"

anotehr brilliant post by a 5th grader who can't control his mouth.

Nice job.

Prove he admitted it after the Madam announced she was going to release the name. (OH WAIT YOU CAN'T)

He outed himself right after Larry Flynt confronted him with the evidence. There's a NO madame who claims he was a regular at her whorehouse in the 90s. The DC Madame's lawyer says there are 12-25 prominent DC folk in her book. Flynt is hunting them down.

Did you miss anything Army? Just the truth.

Formerlib: Only a brain dead right winger would dare assert that Vitter was not a hypocrite or a piece of shit. Nice to see that you fulfill all my preconceptions about rightwingers. LOL

Joe,

Thanks for the response. What you suggest, however, raises all sorts of questions the answers of which few will completely agree on.

For starters,
Whose standards?
What do you mean by being held accountable?
Where does one draw the line between what is forgivable and unforgivable?
Should we differentiate between betraying a public trust and personal ones? If so, at what point or to what degree?

In addition, my original post was trying to make the point that the revelation of any impropriety from any age in a politician's life is presented by the media as a scandal.

As such, politicians cannot be elected based on the reality of being flawed human beings. Instead, they have to project an impossible image of wholesomeness and moral virtue, virtually free of lapses in judgment or even mistakes.

Moreover, if they do not compromise their beliefs, they are presented as being too rigid. If they have a record of changing their minds on positions, they are considered weak and unable to stand by convictions.

All in all, it becomes easy to label all politicians as crooks, liars, hypocrites because in order to get elected they have to present an image they can't live up to--that few if any of us could. When the true person is revealed, and it usually is, we feel betrayed.

(Bear in mind I am not talking about politicians like Nixon, Cheney and Marion Barry who practice(d) duplicity and immorality as if it was an high art form. Instead, I am talking about politicians who have made a few mistakes in their past and perhaps even in their tenure in office.

I do agree with you that failings while in office need to be examined in a different and brighter light than those of the past. )

Consider professional sports for an analogy. When fans, coaches and owners demand a level of performance beyond the natural physical ability of even the best athletes, why are we surprised that the hopefuls turn to steroids? To be sure the demand for such performance does not justify morally the use of performance enhancing drugs but it certainly clouds the ethical waters.

Cheers

"Redneck, Bob, I could easily rant on about how worthless both of you are "

YEAH!

Says the "christian"!?

"For starters, Whose standards?"

Well, his...for starters.

Have you seen his website? All the posts on abstinence, protecting traditional marriage, family values....

Turns out it wasn't his abstinence or marriage or family values to which he was referring.

You suck RCADE.

What's the big stink?? Prostitution should be legal everywhere. What's the crime? Where's the "victim?" So he's a hypocrite, can you name me a politician who isn't? Let's go after some of the thieves and such and give poor ol' Vitter a break. I expect his ol' lady will make him miserable enough.

Yeah, I agree with "JestGettinAlong". There's no "crime" here. It's a shame that people in positions of authority in our system don't help to fix the hypocrisy within it.

Why do we put these people in jail??? For what?? For community morals? Please.

Why is it legal to be a porn star but not legal to be a prostitute?

Now a New Orleans madam is outing Vitter:

I said NOTHING about Vitter at all in my post, I just said your jargon sounded like a 5th grader. Try to be intelligent, its hard for me to take some of you seriously here, when all you do is curse and demonize the other side. GROW UP!!!! I have had many fruitful debates on here with many people, I like to learn and discuss the issues, but when a little kid like yourself comes in cursing and making an ass of yourself, well, I call you on it.

I have a lot to say on this so bare with me Please.

As far as I know adultery is not against the law so I have to hold the same legal position as I did with Clinton. This is a family matter.

But unlike Clinton I think it is fair to call this man a hypocrite. It is not fair to allow a man to raise himself up on a moral pedestal and then not expect him too live up to his own standards. Keep in mind he was not chosen by some group to represent a certain view he was self appointed by himself.

I agree that this does not go against his views on abstinence but I do see hypocritic in his defense of marriage. He was claiming that marriage needs to be protected by defining it as between a man and a women instilling a fear that same sex marriage hurts or endangers marriage however very few marriage have ever ending in homosexuality. However you should note that except for cases of death all marriages end in divorce. So divorce and not same sex marriage is the true danger to marriage.

In most cases like this (Haggard, the man who fought for laws to protect children from sexual predator) those who yell the loudest are usually hiding something themselves.

People say lots of things that they can never live up to themselves because they don't think they will ever have to face their own judgement. The Vitter's are a good example of this. Mrs Vitters comments during the Clinton scandal proves this as we now she that she did indeed act more like Hillary then Lorena. she tried to show that she would have acted differently then Hiallry when in fact that was not true. Mr. Vitter who has now been tied to the D.C brothal and the New Orlens brothal was hoping to get away with cheating on his wife.

That'll learn him to be all
Jesufied with that holier
than thou Christian Right
attitude.

OK another Dumb ass liberal looks stupid.

LARRY FLINTS HUSTLER CLUB MAGAZINE CLAIMES" that should be a key word. Even if LFHC exposed him, He admitted it to the public , but you still have no FUCKING CLUE do you when he told his wife, family, etc... So STFU about with the "lies" comment about me, you DUMB inbred POS. When you get your facts straight then post until then try reading the actual article your dumb ass links too.

I wish all LIBS were IGNORANT as you. maybe then you would fail to reproduce.

" Even if LFHC exposed him, He admitted it to the public"

Hardly honorable, especialy when denying it with all the proof at that point would just add liar to his resume. And don't forget, prior to this, he lied and denied frequenting the brothel in New Orleans.

"when he told his wife, family"

What about his duty to tell the voters he wasn't really the "family values" guy he pretended to be? That when he talked of abstinence and the sanctity of marriage, he was referring to everyone but himself?

...but you still have no FUCKING CLUE do you when he told his wife, family, etc

And you do?

Please do share with all yer wisdom in when exactly this Senator Viagra told Mrs Bobbit he was a ho' tamin' roughrider?

He admitted it to the public

And the timing wasn't suspicious to you?

The "public" were busy downloading the released info (including his phone number) over the net when he confessed.

Typical rethuglican tactic.

"It was the least I could do that's why I did it"

Cry great big crocodile tears of regret and return to the religious right fer political fergiveness.

Wot a Farce!

He's a stone cold hypocrite.

The GOP, the so-called party of morals and family values is proving itself to have neither.

They're not only talkin' the talk ...they're shouting it.

Their failures to walk the walk just grow more obvious daily.

The Dems aint no angels themselves some days but sheesh this is ridiculous.

Be Well.

"Flynt said he has also located five prostitutes in Louisiana who also allege that they have had sexual contact with Vitter.

"You can't have a guy with four, five mistresses and at the same time attacking any similarity of gay rights and speaking about the sanctity of marriage, and abstinence programs, and voting the conservative line all the way down," Flynt said.

"I don't want a man like that legislating for me, especially in the areas of morality," he added.

Vitter heavily campaigned on social values in his 2004 Senate race and was one of the top backers of a failed constitutional amendment that would have banned same-sex marriage."

I hope voters throw the bum out.

Just like they threw out Clinton--right RCADE??

This guy is a hypocrite--so was Clinton--who was a liar.

At least the dude admitted to the deed. He will have his punishment with his wife.

Since he is from LA--they'll re elect him just like they did with Jefferson--right!

Murphy

There are hypocrites on both sides of the aisle. One is not better or worse than the other.

Why do the Dems--or those that apologize for the Dems --lower themselves-- and not expect--demand--higher standards than the Republicans?

I don't get the lower expectation argument.

Why do Dems get treated differently than Repubs for the same act? It is ridiculous and BS. The MSM gives the Dems a pass and will do the same when more names are reported. Doesn't that "bother" any of you?

What--The Dems have no morals??--Therefore they can phuck ho's and cheat on their wife and get bribed with impunity?

Is that what the Dems are allowed to do? And folks who are posting these kind of arguments--see no problem with that kind of reasoning?

Murphy

Come ON Murphy, Monica didn't charge a nickel. Of course she didn't swallow, either.

When a dem that runs on a family values ticket, and does everything they can to make women second class citizens, and deny children sex education...fucks a hooker then it will be the same, murphy.

"It's the hypocrisy, stupid"
