A suicide truck bomber blasted a Shiite town north of Baghdad today, killing more than 100 people, police said, in a sign Sunni insurgents are pulling away from a U.S. offensive around the capital to attack where security is thinner.

60 or a 100 or 60 plus a 100?

I think the 100 dead shia claim is bogus. The target was supposedly a marketplace and the Republicans have already told us they are perfectly safe.

Sunni insurgents are pulling away from a U.S. offensive around the capital to attack where security is thinner.

That's the point of asymmetrical warfare. You fight where they ain't.

How long are we staying?

actually, closer to 14 dead soldiers in the last two days.

Only six?!?

Last throes!

The surge? The surge in death and dismemberment. It's now July, so these insane people have two months in which to tell us they are making progress.

They will pretend they are.

It won't be true.

Remember Vietnam. Lie after lie after lie, and that little piggy toad Henry Kissinger is telling W what to do thirty years later.

Some of us remember. Republican lies are worse than Democrat lies. Bastards.

I'm so glad our soldiers are over in Iraq protecting our freedoms. Which Freedoms? Your guess is as good as mine.

I am truely sorry these people died but perhaps we can include this story to this one.......

from the AP written by lee keith....shop owners in Bagdad are keeping their shops open longer these days on the main street saying they feel safer after weeks of beefed up security.

and I know that you libs here safe at home with me are surely much smarter than this next man who is just there on the streets of bagdad but HASSAN NASSAR, an art gallery owner was stunned to see how many people were on the main street shopping......"IF it werent for the barbed wire, it would have looked just like the old days"

and there is still death and destruction which cant be denied but these stories from iraq like this one shouldnt be denied either....and they arent......they are just left to the back pages and/or ignored.

We're just winning 'em over one art gallery owner at a time.

It's just too bad that the Bushling can't run for a third term.

I am truely sorry these people died but perhaps we can include this story to this one.......

Bushlovertwo I know you are trying to make believe the situation in Iraq is getting "better", in some ways, and it certainly should be from the endless billions of dollars we have poured into this sorry situation, but I cannot understand why you would want to think that connecting the story of over a hundred innocent civilians bombed to the fact that some stores in Baghdad are staying open later has any meaning.

As in, WOW, the stores are open later, isn't that great, but too bad over 100 were killed elsewhere.

Make a "Good News From Iraq" thread and see how it goes.

bushlovertwo

you have been saying that for the last 3 years, and left to your own devices you would be saying that for the next 20 years

I fully expected a lot of oh poo poos from my post and thats okay......
and as I said there is still death and destruction and I wish the iraquies would get off their ass and get an agreement on oil and all the other shit........but the point is that the surge is having an effect in many places in iraq that NEVER GETS COVERED.........but which side is AFRAID of the good news and which side isnt?
and yes it has been three years......and again.....doesnt matter what you think of us going there......what about now....cant undo the past, so do we just leave........and what happens to these people who have trusted us and helped us.......what becomes of them?

credit where credit is due.....even though it NEVER goes the other way.

one art gallery at a time.....thats funny.......but its progress.

They will keep going for the big kills. They make the TV news and sells their story. They are also the easy targets and help foster sectarian tit for tat.

Three days and a wakeup. As long as a rocket doesn't land square on me,I am good to go.

stop saying that trooper.......dont be courting bad luck....not at this stage of the game

.......there's no point to this war, every life lost is wasted.......

........on behalf of people who would not fight themselves, or, send their own children to fight.......

.......because they know its a scam...

I no longer care about the numbers. If after 6 years, no exit plan under any condition has been made and none of the law makers are insisting, I don't believe any of them are serious about it either. In fact what they are doing actually confuses and prolongs the war

BLT has a point. You hardly hear of any bad things coming out of Basra since Sadr took it over from the Brits.
