A North Carolina man caught more than he wanted to eat while fishing for his dinner in the Catawba River on Sunday -- a one pound, four ounce piranha.

In other News-North Carolina man eaten by his dinner.......
And now-back to your regularly scheduled clusterfuck....

Maybe with global warming...I can catch snapper and groupers in NJ?

with all the warm water effluent from the power plants on the catawba these buggers could survive even the winters here.

Rainbow Trout? Now them's good eatin'.

Piranha? Now them's good eaters.

Abandoned pets living in an unfamiliar eco-system are funny up to a point.

It's when they begin to thrive because their natural predators are gone and they begin to disrupt the balance that it stops being funny.

That and when somebody goes out fer a moonlight dip gets their leg or sommat gnawed off by a group of these things.

Be Well.

Piranah are illegal to have in the country. Another southern redneck without Shi* for brains let the thing go. Hopefully it was unable to reproduce and that was it. But, that is doubtful

Spud,
Good point on the pet scenerio.
I've seen piranha in the pet store over here and I thought, what if someone let their pet piranha loose in some local water.
Here in Denmark they would freeze in the winter, but California, or Florida?

Sounds like the fish were really biting.

We have all sorts of non-native species in the Everglades thanks to the idiots who keep them as pets until they escape or they get bored with them. All non-native species should be banned as exotic pets unless by a zoo or other professionally run place for them.

Larry, should have said with, not without.

Tossing pirhanas in the Catawba is obviously a tactic of the southern baptist church to discourage skinny dipping in NC rivers.

Piranah are liberal fish. They are evil and infiltrating everywhere.

Until the headline is reversed, hohum.

I don't think they're illegal in all states. I went to school in PA and one housemate had a tank with 3 piranha, a crocodile gobie and an algae eater in it. They were pretty fun to feed but they were messy eaters and the tank had to be cleaned all the time.

Or perhaps it's a variation on snake handling, only it's during a baptism and it's the "snake" getting bit rather than doing the biting...

um, people, pirahna's don't even begin to live up to their reputations. The images of them devouring water buffalo are totally overblown. There are more aggressive and dangerous fish at the pet store and you can get piranhas in most states, afaik.
