Russian computers that control the International Space Station's orientation and supply of oxygen and water have failed, potentially extending the Space Shuttle's mission -- or cutting it short.

The shouldn't have used the pirated version of Windows. Linux is much more stable.

Hell, maybe it is time to upgrade the Commodore Vic-20's that run the station.

Hey Nasa, I know of a guy that can get you all the TI-99's you need, for only $1,400 each.

Microsoft has promised that MSSpaceLab 2.0 will be much more stable, with an entirely redesigned GUI and enhanced virus protection. Most users are expected to wait for the first Service Pack before upgrading, however.

that would explain a lot.

Somebody at NASA should go shopping at Fry's.

That has GOT to be an "oh shit" kinda feeling.

I would hate to be up there with shit failing all around me.
Can you imagine lookingout the window at Earth and wondering if you'll ever set foot on it again?

Get on that Rogers!!

So Rob, how is the weather in the hood?

You guys had one of those NJ hot and humid streaks yet?

And are the Jersey tomato's still as good as they were in the 60's?

I thought it was one the russians stole from the US and had china make a cheep copy.

This has got to be the end of the line for the "quick and cheap" thinking.

You have a shuttle with a pimple on its ass (we all know how much trouble THAT causes you when your country gives you the call). You have a space station that they didn't think out the power implications on when they poured in 1.21 gigawatts from the new solar panels.

And they fried the computer that keeps them oriented, and processes their air.

And the shuttle isn't your number one choice at the moment for riding out the deorbiting station fiasco.

Uhhh....anyone else wondering if there is actually enough alternatives to bring everyone home if this really goes into the shitter?

has anyone else had a bad feeling about this trip since the first little ding was seen........are am I just being clarevoyant again?

thats probably not it....most people who are clarivoyant would know how to spell it.

wow............need to get that 2nd cup...

ARE AM I?

hey its ebonics.

With only a few days of shuttle fuel to keep the station in orbit, the engineers are making progress, but still not able to isolate the problems. It makes me wonder why such and important and expensive program does not have and extra shuttle to deal with emergencies or back up boosters/fuel if there was a leak

Dave Bowman: Hello, HAL do you read me, HAL?
HAL: Affirmative, Dave, I read you.
Dave Bowman: Open the pod bay doors, HAL.
HAL: I'm sorry Dave, I'm afraid I can't do that.
Dave Bowman: What's the problem?
HAL: I think you know what the problem is just as well as I do.
Dave Bowman: What are you talking about, HAL?
HAL: This mission is too important for me to allow you to jeopardize it.
Dave Bowman: I don't know what you're talking about, HAL?
HAL: I know you and Frank were planning to disconnect me, and I'm afraid that's something I cannot allow to happen.
Dave Bowman: Where the hell'd you get that idea, HAL?
HAL: Dave, although you took thorough precautions in the pod against my hearing you, I could see your lips move.

They actually have a Russian spacecraft docked to the station at all times to serve as a rescue vehicle in the event the station needs to be evacuated.

You must be Cykick

WTF!

That is what we get for building something this complex based on Politics.

An elephant built by committee..

When will we ever learn?

Something this critical should never have been left in Russian hands.

I bet my PC is more powerful than the Russian computers.

Scotty! More power to the warp drives! Ah can't do it Captain... I haven't got the puters!

Can you imagine how this would look if it was the manned mission to Mars and they were stuck in orbit there with no computers?

No wonder we can't solve the energy crisis down here on the Planet...

F8....boot in safe mode.

They must've used Microsoft software.

The Mars Rovers don't run Windoze.

OR boot in single user mode and use the command line!

sheese!

Now they are blaming it on the American equipment.

sounds like a device driver

Ok disable all inputs and outputs.

Boot in single user mode

plug in each device one by one and see what crashes the system...

reload the suspect device driver

reboot

In this case a rocket scientist won't do you any good.

You need a nerd.
