first off, 503, its a missile defense system, and its purpose isn't missiles that strike land targets, but other missiles. there would be no point in russia putting a similar system in cuba because there aren't rogue s.american states that threaten western countries with missiles.

second, we have trident submarines all around russia and could strike any one of their cities whenever we like. this system doesn't give us an edge on strike capabilities.

third, the russian missile strike capability is nowhere near that of the US, meaning there is no 'balance of power' or 'arms race' because they aren't even a near peer. this system doesn't all of a sudden give us an advantage over the russians that we don't already have.

fourth, putin knows this and doesn't admit it because he needs the russian people to think there is another war-in-perpetuity: MAD. we will never go to war with a country like russia, its pointless for both sides, again, proving that this missile defense system has nothing to do with russia.

i would only have a problem with russia escalating the arms race with the system in cuba since there is no other explanation for it. WE have a reason to put them in eatern europe because there are rogue M.E. states with missiles that threaten to launch. also, these rogue states now have nuclear weapons capablilites THANKS to russia.
