Jack Kevorkian, the retired pathologist dubbed "Dr. Death" after claiming he had participated in at least 130 assisted suicides, left prison after eight years Friday still believing people have the right to die.

People don't have the right to die until they have suffered as much pain as possible. Begging for death will not be tolerated. Mercy is unknown.

Sad day for Justice I will say that much.

Larry

This could be the death of me.

Larry, why do you have such a problem with people who are suffering horribly, with no possibility of relief, wanting to end their life?

I have NO Problems with that but they need to do it Themselves. Not involve someone else.

Larry

Larry ok here is a hypothetical. Let say somebody was a quadriplegic what does that person do? I might actually ask for help in dying.

Why is that we as a society treat our pets better than people? Why is it that people don't force their pets to suffer like they do people?

Kevorkian knows what's up. I fully support physician-assisted suicide.

I will grant Kervorkian this, - he is one the few people in our society who is willing to stand up for a principle he believe in, regardless of the many harsh personal consequences to himself. He was willing to spend eight years in prison rather than back down on a point of principle. I cannot think of many other Americans today about whom the same could be said. Certainly none of those chickenhawks in government.

Being "tired of living" isn't the same thing as having a terminal, debilitating illness, and no one is saying that any person should be able to help someone die, only a physician should be able to do that.

I agree with you Ness. I think an intellectually honest person has to recognize that there should be a right to die for the terminally ill. Further, some people who desire and wish to die need assistance. It is creepy and macabre, but true nonetheless.

It is creepy and macabre,

It's humane.

There should be a right to die for anyone who wants it, regardless of being terminally ill or in perfect health. No one, especially the government, should have the right to tell you whether or not you have to exist.

And still the earth revolves around the sun.!!!

" ... they need to do it Themselves. Not involve someone else. "

What makes the wish to bow out any different from changing a tire, filling a tooth or defending a speeding charge?

"What if I got tired of Living and wanted You to End My Life would You support it and do so?"

For myself, I would if I weren't risking disproportionate time in the slammer. herm

It isn't easy to kill yourself. Few people have the knowledge or the ability to do it painlessly. Yes, it is noble to say that people should be able to kill themselves with no outside help---but that really just puts them under more duress. What Kevorkian offered was a professional service, and a painless death.

Face it, how are you going to kill yourself at home---gas? What if it catches a spark before you suffocate and explodes giving you a nice screaming death. Pleasant for the neighbors maybe, and there's nothing like having your body on fire to take your mind off the pain of your bone cancer for a bit. How about a nice bullet, or a shotgun. It takes lots of courage to do that, and lots of people MISS. Then there is the corpse for the funeral--some people would like an open casket. There are lots of other ways---all gruesome.

What Kevorkian did was offer the tool to give dignity and a painless death to those who asked for it. They pushed the plunger, not him. They asked for him to be there--he didn't go knocking on doors.

Instead of griping - organize and change your state's laws on the subject. He only went to prison because he violated state laws. Don't like it, do something about it.

It's a shame that you even have to get the right to a dignified death from the State.

hopefully doctor death will avail himself of his own services today

"hopefully doctor death will avail himself of his own services today"

You must have shit fer brains.
