Just watched it on C-SPAN. A senator had put up a bill saying that law enforcement should be allowed to not enforce immigration laws (that's ICE's job) but be able to ask a criminal his legal status after he has committed a crime -- like murder, maybe?

Los Angeles is a "sanctuary city" and our cops' hands are tied. If they see a gangbanger with a rap sheet of felonies a mile long and they know he had been ordered by the courts to be deported at least 6 times before, the cops are NOT allowed to question the gangbanger about why he is BACK in the country UNLESS HE IS IN THE MIDDLE OF COMMITTING YET ANOTHER CRIME.

It is past time we have tiny un-representative (e.g. almost all-white) states decide who becomes leader.

If the memorandum is true, Hillary is far from the first candidate to make a calculation like this. It means nothing other than that there is normal "gaming" going on, which everyone has no choice but to engage in. As long as We The People allow the perpetuation of an absurd process for nominating candidate, we shouldn't pretend to be upset when they try to work with what is there.

And for those who think there is no difference between the two parties, try to imagine where the USA would be today if it was President Gore who took the oath of office in January 2001. One place we would not be is bleeding and bogged down in Iraq.

Alot of the chaff being aimed at Hillary reminds me of the proud lefties in 2000 who stayed "pure" against the "corrupt Gore" by voting Nader and putting a smiling Texan into office.

The two parties are the same? The GOP loves to hear this sort of thing. As long as voter participation rates stay low, a committed right wing can continue to exert power far beyond the actual popularity of their real policy positions.

I would be the last one to say the Democratic Party doesn't have flaws or that I always agree with what its leaders do or say. But it remains the party most hospitable to progressive thinking and as long as that is the case its nominee will have my vote.
