Drudge Retort: Red Meat for Yellow Dogs

Part of a growing $12 billion a year sustainable building industry, the future west Florida town of Sky is meant to be the green town of the future -- the way Americans will live when they realize they use too much energy, its developers say. They hope it will serve as an experiment into what can be done to accomplish that goal, and maybe be a model for other communities.

I wouldn't call building a brand new town from scratch and plowing under farmland green, it's just repackaged urban sprawl.
Green is redeveloping our urban brownfields and downtowns where population density supports a walkable environment. Any wherehouse to loft conversion is more green than this town will be.

This is the perfect liberal project! As Norm says, it's not about being green, but about appearances and feelings.

Not to harp on a facet of your well made point, Norm, but here in Los Angeles there was a lot of investment in wherehouse to loft conversion in the downtown area about six years ago. People started dropping all kinds of high $$$ on great, hip spaces, only to discover that they couldn't leave their buildings after the sun went down. Downtown Los Angeles after dark is a scene right out of Night of the Living Dead. You want to stroll around at night down there, you better have some solid close combat skills.

Norm, good point.

Vern, what the fuck are you talking about? Damn, you are simple.
