I posted a similar story "why isn't anyone talking about these murders?" a few weeks back so I'm glad to see its back again and on the front page this time.

You'd think with all involved here, its tailor made for the tabloids and yet ...
nothing.

No one seems to care very much about what happened to this young couple and it's wrong.

Entirely too gruesome and too close to home. The MSM won't touch this one.

I'm having a hard time trying to understand what the controversy is about. The alleged perpetrators have been caught and set for trial so what is the story? That a heinous murder was committed by blacks and the victims were white? Just what is more media coverage going to accomplish?

Heinous murders are committed everyday in America and the majority of us don't hear about them outside our own communities or regions unless there is a noteworthy hook to the story. It appears that justice is well on its way to being served, so what is the issue here?

Perhaps the anonymity of bloggers is what is necessary to take on the MSM.

Instapundit is right the media did back off this story but to state that publicizing this atrocity would have "inflamed things" is falling into a common MSM perpetrated trap.br />

Most of the MSM live in a self defined, selfimposed and self embellished ultra politically correct world that consistently recycles the tale of "whitey" keeping down black or brown skinned people - thus minorities continue to be mostly portrayed as victims. Bill Cosby was publicly pilloried, by the press, for suggesting blacks stop playing the victim role.

As this grotesque murder story goes against the MSM regular spin it received less coverage than had the race of the victims been reversed ie: Duke Lacrosse Players case.

I realize that these unPC comments will likely be misunderstood and the racist bomb will likely be hurled. But the point being made is that white people CAN be victims and clearly this couple was victimized in the most horrific manner. Did they not deserve a respectful equal promenance in the MSM even if their deaths were "politically incorrect"?

If five Whites had done this to two Blacks (by the way, the news story cited here left out certain unsavory yet decidedly salient aspects of the story, such as the fact that the male victim was subjected to homosexual rape and had his penis amputated while he was still alive, and that the female victim had her breasts sliced off while she was still alive), it'd rival the ongoing Iraq War coverage as the biggest story of 2007. Five Blacks do it to two Whites, and the media couldn't care less. Who's interests do the media serve? We're told the media is a capitalist institution, driven by profit, but it clearly is not, or it would have covered this story. And it certainly doesn't strive to advance the interests of the American people. So who does it strive to advance the interests of? I'd really like to know. Whoever they are, they must be most pretty loathsome characters.

THE issue is the fact that the Blacks were not charged with a hate crime but if it were reversed, the MSM would be screaming "It was a HATE CRIME" from every headline and demanding that the additional time for a hate crime be added on to their sentence.

The "if these were white folks who did this to black folks it would be treated as a hate crime" argument has little resonance for Spud. All rape is ugly. All murder is ugly. All torture is ugly....

BUT the fact and reality is that our current judicial system (and the recent proposed 'hate crime' legislation) only adds credibility to the many who feel that as far as justice is concerned -- "only straight whites ever commit hate crimes."

You are now seeing the backlash against that attitude.

At some point during the trip, the couple was hijacked, bound and blindfolded and taken back to Davidson's apartment. Due to a virtual media blackout, what happened next is not yet clear.

Some media reports suggest that prior to the murders Christopher's penis was cut off and Channon's breasts were removed, however the police department refuses to comment on these alleged aspects of the crimes. The few details we can piece together are taken from various media reports and the official indictments.

Once back at Davidson's apartment, several people allegedly raped Christopher in front of his girlfriend. Afterwards, he was shot multiple times. His body was then set on fire, in an apparent attempt to cover up evidence, and dumped near the railroad tracks.

When the perpetrators were finished with Christopher, they allegedly turned their attention to Channon. For two days, she was beaten, gang raped and at times urinated upon. When her killers finally had their fill of her, they poured bleach down her throat, in an attempt to cover up evidence, and shot her multiple times.

As with Christopher, they set her body on fire; however, for unknown reasons, they did not dump her body but instead placed it in a trashcan inside the apartment....

Right away the MSM tries to make it like this couple deserved what they got because they couldn't wait to make a dig on the father of the guy who was tortured and killed. They made SURE to point out that the father of the dead boy was wearing a CONFEDERATE T-SHIRT when he attended the trial.

Well, hey, any guy who wears a Confederate t-shirt -- according to the liberal MSM -- obviously DESERVES to have his son and his son's girlfriend tortured/raped/murdered and must be a racist himself. Why mention the father's t-shirt at all? Is the MSM saying that the confederate t-shirt makes the murders null and void and any charges of racism should be thrown out the window. I rest my case.

What really makes this Knoxville story incredible is the fact the crimes were perpetrated by a group of neighbors. If a friend and I abducted a couple, irrespective of their race, and informed my neighbors that they could take turns raping, beating, and otherwise torturing them, before we planned on murdering and disposing of them in a few days, they'd all dial 9-1-1 ASAP! The fact that there are ghettoized neighborhoods in America today where one's neighbors can be counted upon to readily join in on an orgy of gang rape, torture, mutilation, and murder says something pretty awful about the social realities innate to certain types of neighborhoods in America today. And that, my friends, is a little thing we used to call "news."

You're kidding! I didn't know that. Of course I never would have heard anything about this if GZ hadn't posted it on a userblog a couple weeks ago and I read the news everyday but I had never heard of this crime.

Only white blue eye devil's can be racist! It's impossible for blacks to practice racism on whites. Racism is the sum total of prejudice and power and blacks don't have power in our society. America is a racist society in which blacks can only be victims and whites only oppressors. Anti-white feelings ... are not unusual among some segments of the black community, blacks who have such feelings against whites may feel justified, and because during slavery and segregation, a collection of whites kept them down.

According to Wikipedia: Racism is bigotry, prejudice, violence, oppression, stereotyping, discrimination or any other socially divisive practice whose primary basis is the concept of race.

This definition of racism does NOT confine racism to whites. Note that Jesse Jackson, a prime player in the Duke case, did not appear in Knoxville. Apparently WHITE is not a color promoted in his so-called Rainbow Coalition.

When this event occurred, I was living in St. Louis and did see it on local news shows. It was not ignored. I remember it because of its horrible nature. Much later did I recieve a right-wing email screaming about the MSM ignoring this event. The problem is, as has been pointed out, that the right-wing hate mongers couldn't argue based on the facts of the case but just had to add false claims about torture and humiliation to make it even worse so that the attack on the MSM could be more effective. This is their method in all things - it really rouses the right-wing nutjobs but irritates the rest of us who prefer real facts.
