My initial reaction was in favor of suspending Imus and then returning him to a revised format. After a few days of the media onslaught I have changed my reaction. Only by letting him go can we move forward, hoping to educate about the negative aspects of racism, sexism, any "isum." It's not only ok to be of differing thought, it is desirable. What a dull people we would be without the ability to understand those who are not our carbon copies.
The only thing negative about this is we must now listen to Sharpton and Jackson for a long time. Those two defy explanation.

What defies explanation is how a man gets paid ten million per year, for among other things, calling the daughters of other people whores. Does Imus have children, one wonders?

I watched Imus for about 5 minutes one time back in January.

I've been watching Imus about a year and a half. Never listened to him on the radio. He was always trash talking -- "schoolyard" stuff -- attacking everyone because of how they sounded or looked.

I just thought it was part of his shtick and not to be taken seriously. Because if he was to be taken seriously then no serious journalist or politician in their right mind would ever go on his show -- but his show was all about having serious journalists and politicians come on to talk about whatever. So there was this knowing "wink" to everything Imus said, letting the audience know that the trash talk was just for cheap laughs and not done with any malicious intent.

The "wink" is gone. His "shtick" is no longer funny And all those past comments are now coming home to roost.

I wonder if Dave Chappelle, or 50 Cents will suffer a similar fate a few years from now.

I wanted to cite a portion of one of "Cardinal Eagan's rants" to demonstrate how much the show lambasted Imus himself. If anyone is familiar with the show, then you will remember the "which one doesn't belong and why" schtick I'm referring to.
