Shattering previous records, Democrat Hillary Rodham Clinton collected $26 million for her presidential campaign during the first three months of the year and transferred an additional $10 million from her Senate fundraising account, aides said today.

I can understand your disappointment with Bush (understated I'm sure) but I think we should really work hard on looking forward rather than looking backward.

IMO

If only the average schmuck in this country understood the Corporate links laid out in this blog. With very few exceptions (such as Kucinich) they own Republocrats. 60 Minutes did a piece on the Republican Healthcare Bill, which exposed the corruption of our political system. All its prime movers in Congress now enjoy million plus salaries with the drug companies. How can the level of consciousness of the country be raised? Without affordable TV access, it seems impossible.

Eberly

You're not backing away from Bush, are you?

Ted,

You have to distinguish between folks who have supported Bush because he is republican and those who have supported him because he is the president.

Like most conservatives, I am quite disappointed with GWB and the rest of the republicans for their shabby behavior.

If someone would read my posts over the last year you would see that my arguments with liberals are about liberalism......and they weren't intended to be a defense of GWB. You'll notice 100% of the time when a conservative defends a conservative principle then GWB is thrown in their face and I can't do anything about that.

I take issue with some liberals because their arguments are nothing but a rant against republicans. They are just as blinded by ideology as anybody who wholeheartedly supports GWB.

With very few exceptions (such as Kucinich) they own Republocrats.

They own who is in power. Watch what happens over the next year with corporations and democrats. This thread is a perfect example.....corporations with get behind who they think will win and whoever gets elected will be beholden to them.

It isn't partisian.....it's business.

What idiots are giving money to this woman? Why do people think she is going to be different than she has been over her career. She is a shady politician who will do and say whatever the polls tell her to say. I really am contemplating putting up for a four year rotation to China or Europe if she gets the dem nomination and some crazy christian conservative gets the republican nod.

The moderate voters are getting shut out of politics. We definitely need a multi-party system in this country. I don't mean just 3 or 4 but several.

EBERLY:

I am looking forward. Looking forward to November 2008 and many elections thereafter. I'm looking forward to euthanizing the neocons and their plans to militarily subjugate the oil producing middle east (for openers).

Bush himself is just the dupe who pushed the button for PNAC's opening salvo. There are many more neocon dupes waiting in line to continue the mission. One term McCain with Brother Jeb in the background waiting his turn, comes to mind.

Just like the neocons speculate that it's going to take at least 60 years of an imperial presidency to overcome America's representative form of government, I speculate that we need to cut them off at the pass NOW before we find ourselves totally in the grip of fear and intimidation . . . and too impotent and too immersed in self preservation to do anything about it.

I can understand your disappointment with Bush (understated I'm sure) but I think we should really work hard on looking forward rather than looking backward.

I actually disagree in part with this. I think we need to do both. Personally I think that part of the problem is we're always looking for a new way forward but we fail to take history into consideration when doing this. Thus, we continue, as a nation to make the same mistakes over and again because we fail to appreciate History for the wise tutor she is.

Business as usual isn't working, no mater what party you belong to. I think both parties need to freshen up their thinking. I think both parties need to take into consideration what has occurred over the past fifteen years. I think both parties have a lot to learn about governing.

Neither Republicans nor Democrats fully understand what for the people by the people means.

The people aren't represented by special interest groups. The people aren't represented by religious groups. The people aren't represented by Polls.

We represent ourselves. It is the responsibility of the people to speak on their own behalf and it is the responsibility of Government to listen and make the best decisions possible.

Presently, most Politicians only listen to the powers that they believe can get them elected.

Wouldn't it be cool to tell them with our votes that they are missing the point of public service?

It isn't partisian.....it's business.

I believe that we're the only people who can really change that. Politicians won't.

Trees,

I agree, politicians won't change anything. They love the status quo.

America Hearts Hillary

(even on the drudgeretort, lol!)

"Specifically, the campaign noted several key numbers demonstrating the overwhelming depth and breadth of Clinton's support:

$26 million raised in new receipts since launching her campaign on January 20

80 % of the contributions were $100 or less.

$4.2 million raised on the internet (including $1 million in a week during the One Week, One Million campaign, and nearly $600,000 online in the 36 hours preceding the deadline)

$6 million in total grassroots donations (internet plus direct mail and telemarketing receipts)

50,000 donors (tens of thousands of them new donors)

Contributions received from residents of all 50 states (plus Washington, DC)

$10 million transferred from Senator Clinton's successful senate reelection account

In March of 2003, the highest total reported by a Democratic campaign in its first-quarter fundraising report was $7.4 million and the top four candidates combined raised just over $23 million. In March of 1999, incumbent Vice President Al Gore reported $8.9 million for his first quarter."

80 % of the contributions were $100 or less.

A grassroots Hil campaign is one I could stomach.

Besides, shoving another Clinton down the GOP's throat would be more fun than the pain it might cause.

If it isn't Obama or Gore I am voting republican.

Hillary can rot in hell.

And.... you could take your football and go home.

It is good to see she was still able to raise money despite the "snuke" issue.

And.... you could take your football and go home.

Having another Clinton or Bush elected to the WH in the near future is absolutely bad for this country. I think to many registered democrat voters think she is the second coming of Bill minus the extramarital baggage; they are sorely mistaken. She is weak and has too many ties to big business.

Yes, politial dynasties are very good at raising money.

They also produce candidates like Gore, Bush and Hillary.

I would prefer someone else also, just to get past the past, so to speak.

But I also understand who the front runner is, and I am impressed that 80 percent of her contributions have been the $100 or less grassroots type support.

Just because I can't have my way, though, Richardson or Gore say, doesn't mean that I am either willing to make the perfect the enemy of the good, or to help another GOP elitist into office.

Dems may be influenced by big business, but they are willing to change the rules that so badly need changing in our system.

The GOP is a wholly-owned subsidiary of big business.

An example is here:

(Shameless thread plug #345)

EL FLASHO:::::Mitt Romney has raised 23 Million dollars....WOWZA

I need to research the average Morman net worth to compare with the rest of Americans...

In Mormanism you can't get into the Celestial Kingdom unless you are rich...

I am sure the Morman Cult will contribute bigtime to Romney...

I love seeing all that money going to GOP candidates who haven't got a chance in hell with Evangel turn-out in the general election.

Hill ain't all that and a bag of chips, the Mittster is doing okay too:

Republicans Mitt Romney and Rudy Giuliani joined the Democratic presidential candidates in reporting unprecedented fundraising numbers on Monday, with Romney declaring he raised $23 million during the first quarter, and Giuliani saying his donations totaled $15 million.

All this story made me do is register with Obama's website and influence me to do more active compaigning for him. I will donate what I can when I can. Anything to keep Hillary from winning the nomination.

I will more than happily vote for Obama for President. Personally, I would prefer him to Clinton.

But I don't see the swing voters voting for anyone with as little substantive experience as he has, which is why the GOP would rather run against him, too.

A visceral, "anyone but Hillary approach", tells me that the GOP didn't waste all those millions they spent discrediting the Clintons for all those years.

In the Democratic race, aides to former North Carolina Sen. John Edwards said his $14 million in new contributions included $1 million for the general election.

What idiots are giving money to this woman? Why do people think she is going to be different than she has been over her career. She is a shady politician who will do and say whatever the polls tell her to say.

It is going to be fun watching the DR left start tearing each other apart as we get closer to primary season...

It would be fun on the Repub side too, if they had any real candidates that could pass the Evangel smell test.

But, they brought that on themselves.

It is going to be fun watching the DR left start tearing each other apart as we get closer to primary season...

It'll make a nice change from the years of the righties "Bush is Perfect" in unison chant.

But it seems nobody here is happy with what either party has running.

John Wong must be back in town. It is amazing the money you can get from little Chine for a few promises to trade technology...or from Dubai if your husband offers to "consult" on a ports deal....

If you go to the Fox News site the big headline reads "Romney Rakes It In" "GOPers reise 23 million for Pres. race"

What a bunch of loosers.

I would not bet the Farm on that just yet!

Thanks for the breakdown on Hillary's donations Corky. I was getting tired of seeing posts from the Left declaiming Hillary is somehow bad because she raises so much money.

Like it or not, money helps candidates get their message out and get their voters to the polls. Money for ads, money for get out of the vote operations, money to pay for travel for the candidate, etc. The political graveyards are full of decent honorable people who would have made great lawmakers but they were buried under a tidal wave of their opponent's propaganda.

Until recent years, the GOP held a tremendous advantage in money. That has changed, largely through sophisticated web operations to pull in small donors, a phenomenon that can take advantage quickly of shifts in public opinion. With the current on policy running in Democrats favor, it makes sense Hillary would be among those to benefit.

Hillary in 08.

My pleasure, FDR.

Big deal. $26 million for someone with universal name recognition, who is supposedly the Dem frontrunner? About what Americans spend every day on peanuts, ironically enough.

About what Americans spend every day on peanuts, ironically enough.

says a lot about McCain't and Rudy Soprano, doesn't it?

Actually Obama raised 22 million and Romney raised 21 million. Sounds to me like Clinton is beating her own drum, and this is going to be a Race! NOTHING is settled yet, especially by comparing bankrolls.

Who's your pick on the R side, Davey?

Best back stabbing contest millions can buy.

So , hillary extorted 95% OF HER CAMPAIGN funds . She must be taking lessons from revren je$$ie jacka$$ , the master extortionists and major piss ant .
The thing that should concern everyone about that marxist bitch is , the comment she keeps making " when I am your president , I will have to take some things away from you " , who the fuck does that worthless bitch think she is , she will be a despot leader , dicklesstator , other than her strap-on for when rosie visits .She is and will always be a worthless pile of human debris , every village should learn to take out their trash , and Washington D.C. has alot of garbage to get rid of .

Rightnut-
Are you done, bitch?

If so, who's your pick for the R nomination? (If not, you can continue your rant about your mom and your first girlfriend -- unimpeded by me)

The country has never seen a day when corporations have so much power of the process and the people it employs. This is not a good thing for any candidate.

Another Leftist CROCK!

Crock of SSSSSSSSSSSSS!

Obama is right behind her in campaign $$.

OBAMA 2008!!

good God almighty..........I agree with chris on immigration and I ...well.....sometimes think spud is funny but after reading this they both may want to either rethink or maybe even get some therapy.........."I think the same way" and regardless of my support for bush I wouldnt vote for another member of the bush family.....(UNLESS the alternative was a leftwing liberal).....and sure dont think the clintons should ever move into the white house again........

but as others have said I am sure....

that much money doesnt come from the downtrodden and the bums on the corner and the poor mexicans with the bed of the pickup filled with people or even a small portion of the 90 something per cent of blacks who vote democratic no matter what.

so that leaves who??????????

corporations and corporate people and RICH people from thier daddies..

well danni......whatcha think???????

""John Wong must be back in town. It is amazing the money you can get from little Chine for a few promises to trade technology...or from Dubai if your husband offers to "consult" on a ports deal....

Meanwhile, Republicans miss good old Enron.

Once more, you all don't look past the headlines...

There is a BIG difference between cash raised for the primary and for the general election. AND, cash raised under the catagory of her Senate race and bid for President.

Additionally, her expenses are HUGE compared to most of the others outside the catagory of media buys, etc.

Sourced, to save you all from asking for it:
www.bayoubuzz.com
Despite the impressive fundraising totals, the final analysis of the fundraising is incomplete until two important figures are released, expenses and cash on hand. From all accounts, Hillary Clinton runs a very expensive campaign. For example in her U.S. Senate re-election campaign, running against a political nobody, Clinton spent $37 million of the $51 million she raised. So, right now, we don't know how much of Clinton's $36 million is still left. In addition, some of the money raised is dedicated for the general election, which means that the candidate can only spend it if he or she wins the nomination. Edwards reported that only $1 million of his total is dedicated for the general election. Clinton could have a much higher figure.

www.cbsnews.com
Overall, during her senate reelection campaign, Senator Clinton raised $50 million and spent $37 million, even though compared to 2000, it was a cakewalk.

www.brendan-nyhan.com
Graphic comparative

www.wsws.org
Two days later, the New York Times carried a piece entitled, "Once an enemy, health industry warms to Clinton." The article noted that Clinton has received $854,462 in campaign funding from the health care industry, the largest amount that the pharmaceutical giants, HMOs and hospital groups have doled out to any politician, with the exception of Senator Rick Santorum, the right-wing Republican from Pennsylvania.

"Meet the new boss, same as the old boss" - The Who

I wonder how long it will take for the article to come out about how the media is trying to brainwash the nation into voting for Hillary. Honestly, do you ever see a bad article about her? It's always, "she's on top of fund raising" or "she's the front runner". I think the Dems have some other potential candidates that deserve more credit, Edwards especially, bu the media is so focused on Hillary that there is no room for anything else. I truly don't think Repubs or Dems truly think she can win in 2008 which is scary.
