"After a heavily guarded trip to a Baghdad market, Sen. John McCain insisted Sunday that a U.S.-Iraqi security crackdown in the capital was working..."

Didn't he just say that any one of us could walk down the streets of Baghdad?

So, John, were you full of shit or not?

And the question everyone should be asking of the "support the troops" administration is, where are the fucking Cougars?

"So, John, were you full of shit or not?"

John has joined the delusional wing of the Grand Old Panderers.

Just wait till he starts explaining how being a POW was a military victory.

"The American people are not getting the full picture of what's happening here. They're not getting the full picture of the drop in murders, the establishment of security outposts throughout the city, the situation in Anbar province, the deployment of additional Iraqi brigades which are performing well, and other signs of progress having been made," said McCain, of Arizona.

And

Speaking at a joint news conference with al-Moussawi, U.S. military spokesman Rear Adm. Mark Fox also expressed confidence in the security sweep, saying half of the U.S. troop reinforcements are in place, but he warned it would not be easy to pacify the capital and asked for patience.

"The effort to exert security in Iraq will take time," Fox said. "Our job will not be accomplished within days or weeks."

"We are going to see more violence in the coming weeks and months," he added.

Maybe John McCain didn't keep up with the lease payments on the Straight Talk Express.

How many American lives will these face saving fools through away ?

So far as I know none of the GOP prez hopefuls is willing to leave Iraq.

Maybe their nominee will get real lucky and pull 40% in 2008.

John McCain = John Mc Ain't

Woe is W sez...

John McCain = John Mc Ain't

Not bad, here's an alternate version...

Northguy,

You get your news from a drunk!

"Bill Maher interview
Michael Ware publicly expressed his views on the war last year in an interview with Bill Maher, saying, 'I've been given a front-row ticket to watch this slow-motion train wreck ... I try to stay as drunk for as long as possible while I'm here ... In fact, I'm drinking now.'"

dethspud,

seems that you a worried that a Senator goes to Iraq at this time and says something positive! Gosh, He MUST be a liar! Especially is Michael Ware, a prominent CNN "Journalist" heckles him!

"You get your news from a drunk!"

As opposed to an oxycontin addled moron who's never been anywhere near Iraq?

LA - If what McCain said about anyone being able to walk down the streets of Baghdad without heavy guard was true, then why didn't he? Would have really brought home the "good news", wouldn't it?

"As opposed to an oxycontin addled moron who's never been anywhere near Iraq?"

Zing!

Hans

"Michael Ware, a prominent CNN "Journalist" heckles him"

Proof of this "heckling", please?

This has already been debunked. Ware never even said a word. And no one from McCain's camp has confirmed the claim.

Which begs the question: Who's this "source", and why is he or she lying? To what end?

My brother just got back from 6 months in Iraq (Taji) and has another couple of weeks before he has to go back and I talked with him at length. Basically, he says things are much worse than anything we see - there is no longer any move to pacify the situation and the Iraqi 'Army' is a joke. All the while, the officers for the US are more concerned with 'Morality Checks' which are hunts for pork, alcohol, and porn than in actually winning the war. My brother is over 30 and has a family so he is able to step back and assess the situation for what it is - unlike the mainly 18-22 year old soldiers that make up a vast majority of the soldiers and whose main concerns are cars and country music.

Why we continue to waste time and money while not have ANY plan to win is ridiculous. As mentioned above, how many more people have to die for this last ditch effort to save face is completed and we we can move out leaving Iraq in the same exact situation as it was 6 months to 4 years ago? If you ask me, I would rather have Saddam back in power and I think about 75%+ of the American people would agree with me.

If you ask me, I would rather have Saddam back in power and I think about 75%+ of the American people would agree with me.

Well, you'll be hard pressed to pull that one off. Unless you can raise him from the dead and unbreak his neck.

Which begs the question: Who's this "source", and why is he or she lying? To what end?

I know why you're defending this "journalist"

Mostly because he leans toward the left when reportnig in Iraq. CNN loses credibility

You get your news from a drunk!

As opposed to sober Faux News?(can't beat that zinger from Sananto!)

I saw this interview on Bill Maher and Mr Ware made a hell of a lot of sense for a drunk.

Besides, if my duty station was Iraq I'd be drunk most of the time too!

"I know why you're defending this "journalist""

I'd defend anyone who risked their life to try and bring us the truth as opposed to the "good news" about the so-called surge.

do you really think McCain was speaking the truth or some Spinned out version of what he wanted us to hear?

So basically by ignoring the question and coming up with yet another brilliant argument, you are saying that, NO, you don't have any source for your contention, other than an unsubstantiated claim by Drudge.

You got brass ones, I'll give you that, accusing ANYONE else of losing credibility.

PS: Since I moved to Ohio I considered changing my handle on here, but quickly discovered you had used them all up.

What a laugh...I'm defending the journalist because a) there is no independent confirmation from those there, something easy to obtain by now (yet still absent), and b) Ware has directly contradicted it, with no contradicting on-the-record statements. Clearly, the McCain camp would've confirmed this by now, and the fact they haven't speaks volumes.

Absent evidence, and with a contradictory statement on record easily contradictable (yet not), I have to lean to Ware.

It's a sad fact you have to paint me as "left" to justify why I see it this way. I've voted for a lot of Republicans because they were better, but the fact you are content to continually blast Ware for something which you have no evidence, coupled with the larger point you're avoiding (Two US Senators lied to the world about the conditions of the war) tells me you vote for Republicans not because they're better, but because they're Republicans.

Two Senators lied. Even if your anonymously unsourced, denied, non-proven story is gospel truth, you're conveniently avoiding the bigger story: why would two US Senators stand up in front of the world and paint a far rosier picture in Iraq than actually exists?

Last-
I'm still unclear as to how Ware "heckled" anyone. Do you have an update from Matt Drudge?

Oohrah - I'm in Fairview Park - Cleveland area.

LA - yes, we all know about Ware's appearance on Bill Maher. Gee, do you think he might have been being a bit tongue-in-cheek since it IS a political satire show?

But that wasn't the question you have so studiously avoided. Where is your proof of any heckling of McCain by Ware, other than from the miniscule mind of Matt Drudge?

Still waiting...

Last-
Last I heard, the story was "Developing...", so I would assume that Matt Drudge has now posted evidence that Ware was "heckling" at the press conference.

No?

Ah yes, the "heckling" scandal that wasn't...

McCain has this Hyperbole problem, it seems.(stroll in iraq!) Or is it just matt drudge? Screw it, they're both puppets.

No heckling, no "free range" walking in Baghdad either. 100 military throughout the market making sure it was safe. Snipers posted throughout. Air support hovering.

At the press conference, an Iraqi reported asked McCain "where are these neighborhoods you spoke of?"

McCain's answer: I just came from one.
