Slashdot and Cryptome report that the U.S. Department of Homeland Security (DHS) is demanding the master key for the DNS root zone - a demand that has other nations alarmed. With the master key, DHS would have control over the Internet.

"With the master key, DHS would have control over the Internet."

DHS doesn't have control over their own bowels.

Adding another layer of bureaucracy is only second to the Patriot Act in terms of stupid things our government has done.

I doubt businesses selling online will want these fuckheads dicking around in the root servers.

Let's all Just Say No.

DHS to internet: All your base are belong to us.

This sucks.

MEMO: Republicans = Smaller Government

Would someone please get the memo to the assholes in charge?

"With the master key, DHS would have control over the Internet."

I say put Gore in charge of DHS, after all he created the internet in the first place.

LOL

"Adding another layer of bureaucracy".

Yeah, those "less government" Republicans.

What ever happened to plain old Civil Defense?

Who came up with this "Homeland Security" crap anyway? Sounds like someone on Babylon 5 talking about "Homeworld".

Londo specifically www2.warnerbros.com

It's easier than trying to defend the undefendable.

Oh wait this is bowa he loves to defending the ridiculous.

"defend the undefendable"

"According to Vincent Cerf, a senior vice president with MCI Worldcom who's been called the Father of the Internet, "The Internet would not be where it is in the United States without the strong support given to it and related research areas by the Vice President in his current role and in his earlier role as Senator."

The inventor of the Mosaic Browser, Marc Andreesen, credits Gore with making his work possible. He received a federal grant through Gore's High Performance Computing Act. The University of Pennsylvania's Dave Ferber says that without Gore the Internet "would not be where it is today."

Joseph E. Traub, a computer science professor at Columbia University, claims that Gore "was perhaps the first political leader to grasp the importance of networking the country. Could we perhaps see an end to cheap shots from politicians and pundits about inventing the Internet?"

Careful, posting historical fact can get you in trouble with the dittoheads.

"Could we perhaps see an end to cheap shots from politicians and pundits about inventing the Internet?"

Doubtful, as folks like Bowa have seen this crap debunked time and again, yet will re-post this lie endlessly.

So which is it Bowa? Are you really that dense to believe Gore claimed to have invented the internet (which he never claimed), or are you willfully posting something you know to be a lie?

Didn't Bowa lambast someone for paraphrasing the shrub?

Go figure Ron Paul is at the front of this too.
