Mohammed portrayed himself to a U.S. military tribunal as al-Qaida's most ambitious operational planner, taking responsibility for planning and supporting 31 terrorist attacks, topped by 9/11, according to an account of his confession.

The gruesome attacks range from the suicide hijackings of Sept. 11, 2001 -- which killed nearly 3,000 -- to a 2002 shooting on an island off Kuwait that killed a U.S. Marine, according to an account released by the Pentagon.

Many plots, including a previously undisclosed plan to kill several former U.S. presidents, were never carried out or were foiled by international counterterror authorities.

"I was responsible for the 9/11 operation from A to Z," Mohammed said in a statement read Saturday during a Combatant Status Review Tribunal at the U.S. detention facility at Guantanamo Bay, Cuba. Mohammed's confession was read by a member of the U.S. military who is serving as his personal representative.

The Pentagon released a 26-page transcript of the closed-door proceedings on Wednesday night. Some material was omitted, and it wasn't possible to immediately confirm details. The document refers to locations for which the United States and other nations have issued terrorism warnings based on what they deemed credible threats from 1993 to the present.

I'm totally cool with the idea that this is one murdering fuckhead, who is guilty of a lot of things he should die for. I don't care if he was tortured just for fun, sounds like it would be a hoot.

I just find it odd that he should confess to everything but the Garfield assassination. Coersive methods of interrogation get confessions, but they don't always get the truth. Not to mention that the Pentagon is a relative newcomer to the international intelligence business. KSM confessing to all this could easily just be disinformation, or the interrogators unintentionally steering him towards what they want to hear. I'd feel better if the CIA were running the show.

Call me skeptical, but one of the great things about trials is that there's a put-up-or-shut-up moment that usually makes investigators dig until they get to the bottom of things. When the outcome is a foregone conclusion, people get sloppy.

To believe it or not believe it, it comes down to credibility and even Trooper has to admit that we have none anymore. Even Trooper and the hard-core apologists have to admit that no matter what this KSM confesses to, the current policies of American interogation cast a reasonable doubt upon all of his words.

The problem is exactly what "the left" tried to tell you righties when the torture stories first started to come out and all the apologists were shouting us down as "traitors" and "unpatriotic". That is that the use of overly coercive "interrogation techniques" destroy the credibility of whatever information is uncovered when viewed by the rest of the world.
