The U.S. military already knows what half of its most-wanted terrorist targets look like because they have been apprehended and photographed in the past, a Republican congresswoman said Friday. The United States is operating "a catch and release program for al Qaeda in Iraq," said Rep. Heather Wilson, a member of the House intelligence committee.

Alright-when were terrorists put on the Endangered Species List?

Is that Gale Norton's contribution to the argument(war-hell!)-on terror?

This might not be such a bad idea.

His comrades know he's been in custody but they have no idea what he's been up to. He could have given them nothing. He could have been turned. You've got a trust issue now.

It's not enough to just _kill_ all the bad guys ... you've got to eliminate the organization and this is one way of doing that.

"He could have been turned...."

That's about the weirdest excuse for not doing a basic job in life I've ever seen.

"His comrades know he's been in custody but they have no idea what he's been up to. He could have given them nothing. He could have been turned. You've got a trust issue now."

Those people hate us. They would die before they turned over any information.

I highly doubt the scenario you have painted would be accurate.

This is a dangerous idea.

Sounds like they will be asking for more money for Blackwater and halliburton concentration camps.

I guess we should just let everyone out of GITMO and some of the other military prisons we have sent them to. Baby we should tag them before we let them go so we can track their migration and maby put a critter cam on some of them. Ain't these new lib wars fun?

Uh...Sniper??

It's republicans who are doing this...not libs!

new lib wars

Which 'lib' is running this war, again?

Wow...you are a dumbass, sniper.

"Wow...you are a dumbass, sniper."

Naw...he just didn't read the article, figuring if it's bad, it's liberal based.

I think he is now having convulsions over the fact it's his dear party that has been riddled with stupidity!

Funny flag for Frank.

Maybe they're releasing them to keep us afraid. Seems like their MO.

WASHINGTON -- One day after Rep. NANCY PELOSI (search) called the war in Iraq a "grotesque mistake," the House minority leader is spearheading an effort to convene an outside commission to investigate allegations of abuse of terrorism detainees.

HOUSE DEMOCRATS seem convinced that evidence of abuse at Guantanamo Bay (search), Cuba, and in Iraq and Afghanistan is being concealed and that the only way to expose it is with a commission liked the one convened to investigate intelligence failures that allowed the Sept. 11, 2001, terror attacks.

"We in Congress have a responsibility to make this issue once again too hot for the Republicans to handle," she said. "The treatment of detainees is a taint on our country's reputation."

But rather than accuse any soldiers of abuse, which is politically dangerous, PELOSI alluded to unproven abuses with a certainty that blame lies in the hands of the majority party.

"What is it that the Republicans are trying to hide? How far up the chain of command does this go? Why is it that the secretary of defense is not taking responsibility for this? It happened on his watch," she said.

The ranking DEMOCRATS on the House Intelligence Committee noted her committee is already conducting a "serious and bipartisan" investigation, but argued it wasn't enough.

"This investigation is largely classified. We also need a public unclassified investigation," Rep. JANE HARTMAN, D-Calif., said.

MFIXX:

What has that got to do with "catch and release"?

Furthermore, Pelosi should be investigating the abuse of power by this administration.

mfixx-You are a bible-thumping sexist because you think terrorists are diabolical killers, not "freedom fighters"!

Islamism is a religious and cultural manifestation of the struggle of oppressed minorities in Third World countries against white imperialists, reactionary Christians, and Zionist colonialists. Islamism's professed disdain for the Western lifestyle, its intolerance towards the bourgeois morals are of vital importance for the international class struggle and have our full-hearted support and cooperation. It is mandatory, therefore, for all progressive organizations to display a fervent support for the Islamic struggle, its goals, and methods. The opportunity to recruit 1.2 billion Muslim supporters is just too good to let go!

WASHINGTON -- A Senate DEMOCRAT Wednesday called Guantanamo Bay "an international embarassment".

The first congressional hearing on legal procedures at the increasingly notorious Cuban prison camp revealed a sharply divided Senate, with most Republicans backing the Bush administration while DEMOCRATS launched attacks.

DEMOCRATS and defense lawyers questioned the fairness of the procedures, saying they resulted from an extremely narrow reading of a series of Supreme Court rulings a year ago that gave the Guantanamo prisoners the right to challenge their detention.

Sen. PARICK LEAHY (D-Vt.) called the camp "an international embarrassment" and challenged the Bush administration to disclose it plans for the prison camp. Sen. JOSEPH BIDEN (D-Del.) called for a nonpartisan commission, like the 911 Commission, to review all aspects of Guantanamo Bay. Sen. EDWARD KENNEDY (D-Mass.) called for its closing.

Some DEMOCRATS questioned the fairness of the military tribunals created to determine whether detainees can be continued to be held as enemy combatants.

Our resident righties' response is that it is Pelosi and her "lib war" that is the problem.

Wow.

Just, wow.

Prof- Let us know when you feel like adding something other than a sarcastic version of what you believe to be the oppositions values. You can argue with a real person that way, outside of your own head.

It might be fun, mao.

Makes your brain hurt, doesn't it? Everything wrong is labeled "liberal" here by people like Sniper.

This is what happens when one fails to read the article for the thread they post in.

Lisa: Those people hate us. They would die before they turned over any information.

Maybe. What I've described is a valid tactic for injecting uncertainty and doubt into the opposition. It's been used on foreign spies, inner-city thugs and so on.

They don't have to turn over any information - the goal is for the opposition to believe they might. The goal is to seed doubt and to destroy an agent's effectiveness. Their actual state of mind is irrelevant; their command structure doesn't know if they can trust them or not.

Hell - it's better in some respects NOT to turn the black hat. His morale is going to plummet from not being trusted.

Works for inner city gangs for sure.

But we're talking about guys that think they receive 72 virgins for commiting suicide. So maybe their command structure is not affected by that kind of mindgame.

"But we're talking about guys that think they receive 72 virgins for commiting suicide."

In other words, they're nuts.

Given the fact the Marine commander says we're losing in anbar, home of al queda in Iraq, Dumbar, methinks your theory is bogus.
Those guys released probably had saudi diplomatic passports.

At last the Republicans are being 'environmentally friendly'. 'Catch and release'?

Folks here get released if there is insufficient evidence. Just like releasing a criminal at home if you can't prove they did the crime. Frustrating as hell.

Yes Lisa, you are so smug and clever. Our poor poor party that has been riddled with stupidity. Two words: Nancy Pelosi. What?

Yes but we shouldn't hold a man...er...donkey...er...jacka
ss from their dreams. We should expediate their journey and see that they get to where ever it is they believe they're going in a timely manner.
