Iranian students staged a rare demonstration Monday against President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad, lighting a firecracker and burning his photograph as he delivered a speech at their university, the state news agency reported.

"We want IPod, dammit! And de Snoopy Dog music yes!"

Only the conservatives support this psycho

Funny how the term "conservative" takes on a whole new meaning outside the US, GZ. It was "conservatives" who ran the Kremlin for all those years while it was American conservatives who were trying to destroy the Warsaw Pact.

Quick show of hands--any conservatives here who want to bomb Iran? One, two, three, four, yes--I see you in the back, six, seven, eight nine ten, fifteen or so, OK . . . . good. Any liberals want to bomb Iran? Anyone? NOBODY?

I know what you mean, though. I just think it's funny that Iranian conservatives want Israel to disappear, while it is American liberals that do.

Freedom to protest in Iran?
Why if those students would have done that in the good ol USA they would have been herded on to busses and locked in old local warehouses until the president had finished his speech. Or maybe even shot, like at Kent State.

Yeah sure, I see no difference between conservatives here or anywhere else.
Why don't you run down in your mind all of the issues that conservatives believe here and ask yourself if conservatives around the world would agree?

".....while it is American liberals that do." by RiR.
sources please?
and further..."any liberals want to bomb iran?"
reasons please? i would only like to know, because the strategy worked so well for iraq, correct?
or is that what passes for 'conservative' ideology these days?

Don't You find it Hypocritical that Conservatives want to use the SAME types of weapons including Nuclear ones to prevent another Country from Being able to Build their own?? I find that Highly Hypocritical don't You??

Larry

I think Israel should have its own state. I just think it is a waste of time insisting that it be in the ME. We should just give them Wyoming.

The youth of Iran was always more receptive to U.S.-style democracy than any other population in the middle east. I'm glad to see that the current fuck-up of a war hasn't changed that.

Go Iran! You have great potential!

Freedom to protest in Iran?

You're pretty much free to protest anywhere you want. What happens after you start protesting is another question. Let's wait to see if these guys end up being beheaded on video for protesting your beloved Iranian President.

Now you know this isn't true. They won't allow anyone who will speak out against Bush, Cheney or anyone else that is part of the administration to enter the building. They must have some kind of screening before everyone goes in.

Or maybe even shot, like at Kent State.

Except for these small facts that you seem to be missing.

1. The National Gaurd of Ohio was under the direction of the Govenor of Ohio, not the POTUS.
2. No direct order to fire had been given. The soldiers claimed they feared for their lives (fear from kids throwing rocks) and opened fire.
3. The Kent State shootings occured after three days of protest in which buildings were burned, police officers and firemen were assaulted, property was damaged, and allegedly, threats were made to business owners.

There is a big difference between some students standing in the back of an auditorium protesting with words and signs versus students attempting to cause harm to people and businesses.

But as always. Everything with you is a massive government conspiracy to releive you of your rights. Are you Alex Jones by chance?

Leave JeffInDenmark alone, at least, this morning, he isn't posting repeatedly about the U.S. Government blowing up the World Trade Centers. How refreshing.

Axion's version of Kent State unfortunately conflicts with the facts.

Jeff,

You get the *Ignore Flag*

Noone is listening to you because the righties are coming in and making this board honest.

We will soon be talking about how greedy and lazy the europeans are.

instead of gw's administration capitalising on this, and crafting a message to the iranian people about the absurdity of a'jad hosting an international conference, about an event that even dissenting anti-zionists don't contest happened (re the shoah), we'll see the same bombast directed towards iran about nukes and supporting terrorism.
it's pretty clear that a'jad's support base is fragile, even amongst the elite (cf rafsanjani's and khameni's criticisms of a'jad). it's pretty clear that the nuclear project has been skillfully manipulated by the a'jad regime as being a matter of national pride. it's pretty clear that a'jad's handling of the iranian economy, during a period of record oil prices, has been a shade short of disasterous. it's also pretty clear that the iranian people are anxious at the prospect of war with the US.
why is'nt condi on AJ or al-arabiya making these points, remarking on how a'jad has let the iranians down, has become a policy bereft, monotopical demagogue with no vision for the iranian people cept a fixation on israel?
i'm not holing my breath...

Seems like in 20 years, when the wrong western loving Iranians grow up and hold positions of power, things might go a little better in that country.

Unless we do something really stupid that'll screw that all up. I have the highest confidence in our ability.

That still doesn't mean they would ally with us if we invaded their country to "bring them the democracy". (W syntax, as in "the internets" or "the Google")

Dick and W. need to read Nye's books.

This would be an appropriate statement if the people in power are "western loving." They are not.

I bet some of 'em are closet Louis L'Amour freaks.

Danni as per usual thinks her facts are some how more "correct" than any one elses, never mind Danni that you cite articles with their own bias, now back to your padded room, enough play time on the computer, good girl, nice Danni, heres a bisket.

"Noone is listening to you because the righties are coming in and making this board honest."

Yes, we've seen rightwingnut "honesty" before from the looney site Freerepublic.com. We are all too familiar with your classic examples of honesty such as "We know where the WMDs are" or my favorite "it'll be a cakewalk".

I know what you mean, though. I just think it's funny that Iranian conservatives want Israel to disappear, while it is American liberals that do.

RiR

your stupid use of stupid terms ("liberal" & "conservative")

still renders you.....as stupid.

WHEN WILL YOU GROW UP?

It is not immoral to actually ...feel, think, & know.

No, but it is very uncommon. Especially that thinking thing.

"Noone is listening to you because the righties are coming in and making this board honest."

Honest? Righties? What a sad joke! Tell you what. If the unprecedented in the history of the U.S. corruption, lies, deceit, cronyism, etc. pervasive in the GOP in the last decade is the standard of honesty, I will gladly be dishonest. LOL. How much further does their corrupt party have to sink before they realize they have no moral basis for their silly comments? Hell, they're not even conservatives anymore. Which of course just leaves them the empty shells that they are. On the bright side, gotta give them credit for going down with their ship

I realize this may sound pretty cynical... but maybe this "protest" was staged.... Iran has a bit of a history of staging protests... Sure usually its protesting against the US or Israel... but perhaps this is a staged media gambit.

Make it appear like the country is more free than it is, and make the president seem more sane than he is. So that if we the US do eventually invade for no particuarly great reason, it will make them seem all more the victim... just a thought....

Granted... university students actually do all by themselves have some history of protesting against they're own government.
