What it mostly shows is that tactically the democrats were able to nationalize the election and make it a referendum on the Bush policies and the direction of the country. For the GOP to win, they needed to keep all the house races "local" and let each incumbent get judged by how well they did for their district. The GOP wasn't able to do that. And so they lost the house.

The democrats (and especially nancy pelosi) deserve a lot of credit for staying on message, on attack, and fielding a much better get out the vote operation then they have in the past.

It will be interesting to see if the democrats live up to their promise not to withdraw funding for the war now that they actually will have the power to do so.

I signed in to PWZ and posted one night, and in the midst of the debate, Niceville posted someone's (a DR former regular's) full, real name. I protested, and instead of agreeing with the standard blog protocol (NO REAL NAMES), Rex defended Niceville and attacked me. When I pointed out principle should prevail, Rex's response was I had no "cred", since I hadn't posted there enough.

WOW !! is all I can say. Virginia by 2700 for Webb, McCaskill moving ahead. Tennessee had a great race. Harold Ford, Jr. (D) looks to be losing by only 40,000 votes out of 1.7 million. A black man in a red state. Not bad.

The Senate could very well be DEM in the morning. A tie would at least guarantee a balance on committees, etc. They'll HAVE to work together to get somethng done, and CHENEY can look like the complete asshole he is when he casts the deciding vote IF the Senate is 50/50.

At last Bush has a babysitter. Even though Rove tried the dirty trick of 'robocalls', repeated calls to the same household seeming to come from Dem candidates, but actually a Republican dirty trick, may have saved the Senate for them...Time will tell.

So much for my theory on Diebold. It's nice to see that Americans still do have a voice with their vote in our democracy.

This avalanche was a referendum on BUSH, CHENEY, IRAQ, their massive corruption and war profiteering with their crime family members, outsourcing American jobs, letting corporations dump their obligations for their employees' health plans and pension plans, refusing raising the minimum wage, Bush's corporatism run amok, and against Bush's globalism.


This win will deny Bush fast track authority he wants so desperately renewed in 2007 so he can continue to make his horrendous free trade deals that sends all our jobs overseas.

Oxyboy Limbaugh probably directly cost one Senate seat making fun of Michael J. Fox having Parkinson's disease in the stem cell debate. That race was close and Rush's comments and ridicule was probably the deciding factor that pushed it into the Democrat's win column. GOOD.

CONGRESSMAN MURTHA will get the chairmanship of the Appropriation Committee which means he will control the pursestrings -- including for the military. GOOD.

The last person just voted in Tennessee. And it's 12:30 am Central Time. Many Tennessee voters stood in line in the rain for 5 hours to vote.

We had a record turnout in heavy rainfall, which may have cost the Dem candidate the election. Although Ford (D) lost by only 50K votes out of 1.8 million, it was an incredible accomplishment (he's African American) by a charismatic man who was down 25 points when he started the campaign. For Ford to even come that close spoke volumes in a VERY red state. We are sick and tired of Bush and the NeoCons.

Make no mistake. This election was a referendum on Bush, and the nation spoke:

We WILL not tolerate this brand of politics and ineptness anymore !!! I thank God.

Looks as though the Dems will take the Senate as well. Allen leads with 99%, McCaskill is ahead by 11000 votes with only 55% of St. Louis City and St. Louis county results in. Heavily Democratic areas.

Good night to my patriotic American friends. Thank you for voting !! I did early voting - which took 2 hours, The last vote was JUST cast in Nashville. People stood in line for 5 hours to vote.
