Drudge Retort: Red Meat for Yellow Dogs

It may seem like a distant memory now, but Democrats not so long ago dominated the battle between the parties to get their voters to the polls. Over the past half-dozen years, Republicans reinvented the system, using sophisticated computer modeling and vast amounts of consumer data. In 2002 and 2004, they demonstrated their newfound superiority -- to the dismay of Democratic Party officials and their allies.

I firmly believe that Diebold and the ES&S (a company formerly owned by Republican Senator Hagel) will be rigged to cheat. It won't be an obvious slam dunk so as to call attention to it, but these e-vote machines will make sure that Republicans win -- by a very slight margin not to arouse suspicion -- and the Republicans will keep control of Congress.

I blame the Democrats if this happens in November because they are only now really complaining and investigating these cheating pre-rigged e-voting machines -- something the Dems should have looked into and fixed the day after the 2004 elections.

Everyone should demand an absentee ballot.

"Get out the vote" is never a bad thing. Since our country is supposed to be a democracy, all eligible should vote. This is obvious to all who are truly democratic (emphasis on lower case d). The cynical want only their own to show up on election day.

Actually that is true Woeisw. I only want Democrats to vote. On the other hand, given the GOP shenanigans with DieBold, maybe the GOP can still win even if every Republican voter in the country stayed home.

Moder8,
As much as I would like to see the Republican majority overturned, I wouldn't want to see it done with only Democrats voting. I'm hoping (I know, against hope) that many Republicans will finally wake up to reality.

The Christian fundamentalists who make up a sizable bloc of the GOP constituency will NEVER wake up to any reality whereby GWB is seen as anything other than Gods appointed representative on Earth. For many of them, religion and rightwing politics have become one and the same. It is no coincidence that many of the nations top Evangelical preachers are also among the top fundraisers for the GOP. They are a close minded group who actively believe that reason and common sense must be false if they do not adhere to their religious doctrine. So, to repeat myself, I hope none of them vote.

Quick, Somebody get get The Vice a page!

I agree that the hard-liners probably will not change. And the hard liners are among the most likely to vote. However, I don't think all Republicans are in that category. A defeat by a majority of voters, D, R and otherwise would be much more convincing. I'm not saying that I expect it to happen, just that I would like to see it happen.

One of the guests on Chris Matthews' show tonight said to expect to hear another page scandal but this one would be heterosexual so obviously it involved a female page. He didn't say which party the offender belonged to. Look for another shoe to drop.

Thanks for your link, good story.

Have you considered a Female Rep and a male page?

Cultural sexism at its best.

"But we're afraid of Diebold, and the October suprise, and the Christians, and our own little shadows and....

I love it. Stay home if you're so damn pessimistic. Otherwise get out and vote, and stop making excuses for losing even before it happens. Carry on.........

Let's go New Orleans...Let's keep DOLLAR BILL JEFFERSON as the Congressmen from our city. The Mayor will "actively support" this re-election bid. Why wouldn't he? In new Orleans politics... the SCUM rises to the top.
Doesn't EVERYONE keep $100,000 in the freezer at home?

If the dems had any chance at gaining seats, it would be from having a plan that consists of something more than "don't vote for the other guy".

Oh yeah, I forgot. The dems have a plan. They plan to raise our taxes.

If the dems think that they can discourage republican turnout on election day, they are sadly mistaken.

I most certainly will be voting.

It will have to be a landslide. I think God's Own Party (Grand Old Pedophiles) dollar control of technology, i.e. voting machines, might tack an illicit 10% or so to the returns in key races. But if the electronic results differ too radically from the polls in every congressional district, someone, somewhere, may wake up and smell a rat. Speaking of that ... herm

Oh yeah, I forgot. The dems have a plan. They plan to raise our taxes.

REPUBLICAN4EVER

The Republicans 'plan' has been to double the national debt - which is now costing us 18% of every tax dollar for INTEREST ONLY payments.

How do YOU propose we get out of this situation? LOWER taxes for the wealthiest Americans for a THIRD time - those who benefitted from tax cuts while the middle class was purposefully left out? (see Paul O'Neill's book, "The Price of Loyalty". O'Neill was Treasury Secretary in the first Bush term until he was forced out for not towing the line about lowering taxes for the wealthy time and time again.)

If you ran up THREE TIMES your annual income in debt, you sure wouldn't quit your job would ya? Nope. You'd have to get a 2nd and 3rd job or risk bankruptcy. Which is exactly what the Republicans policies, and Bush's budgets have left America as their legacy.

We can't afford the tax cuts Bush enacted. We're too deeply in debt. Only way to get out of it is to increase revenues. So far, Bush's plan isn't working ! We're still running HUNDREDS of BILLIONS of DOLLARS BEHIND every year. Bush has added more to the national debt than all U.S. President's in history COMBINED !! So, don't EVEN try to tell me that the tax cuts have resulted in higher revenues for the U.S. Treasury. The facts of his failed tax policies are obvious.

Who do you suggest will pay off the national debt and how. The last tax INCREASE happened under Bush 41. Clinton left the country in great financial shape. There's no one to blame but Bush and his rubber stamp corrupt Republican Congress,
