If found guilty, of the group involved at least the two soldiers who went inside that home and participated directly in the rape and murders of that family deserve the death penalty. This crime wasn't done in the heat of combat, it was pre-meditated and planned.

They murdered folk who were handcuffed and helpless.

They tried making it look like self defense with very mixed results.

Spud thinks the death penalty is too easy.

Life in prison will suffice fer Spud if it even gets that far.

The militaries track record on investigating itself aint wot you'd call stellar.

"The U.S. military has not executed a soldier since the 1960 hanging of a soldier convicted rape and attempted murder."

"should face the death penalty if convicted"

"Hold on tater, let em get a fair trial first. If convicted, then hang em high."

First off Spud always believes in a fair trial.

Secondly Spud does not think they should face the death penalty.

Thirdly, Spud did say "if"

"Spud thinks the death penalty is too easy.

Life in prison will suffice fer Spud
if it even gets that far.

Nice to know Boaz believes in fair trials too.

The things you find out here at the Retort!

Be Well.

How is it the old saying goes?
If you're innocent-you want a Military tribunal.
If you're Guilty-you want a Civilian trial.

the problem here is they will not get a fair trial and some of you who are so quick to talk about rights should know some of the details about some of this....I think it was this case or the other one, but a father of one of the soldiers was on a show talking about it....for instance, the witnesses are all iraquies and the defense team will not be allowed to see the body to make sure of dna and all....in the rape and murder case, I think it was......there are also several other things that the defense is not being allowed to do........
and did you know that prisoneers at gitmo have all sorts of things like prayer rugs and all those things we have gone over ad naseum....but these guys are basically in solitary......if they cant get a fair trial....let them go......or some of you will forever be talking out of the side of your mouth anytime you get so concerned about rights.......this is not to be antagonistic...but why should we treat the ENEMY better than we treat our soldiers......

I'll second that.

OCU

Fuck the iraqi's , give these soldiers an award for their creative work.

If convicted turn them over to the victim's surviving family members.

and so then they would be getting punishment that libs wont allow for terrorists and cop killers and rapists and child molesters......shit....this is right up the lefistas ally now isnt it?
and libs just CANT UNDERSTAND why we question thier patriotism.....

Well, if there is a conviction, I support Danny Deavering them...and casing the Regiments colors for a year for the disgrace they brought to the unit and the Army.

Bushlovertwo...you sound like you've had a few beers too many tonite after 36 holes of golf...& watching Sheila dance....didn't she lapdance for you tonite ~ a very non-patriot thing to do to a Bushlover I would feel...no? yes? maybe?:>)

I'm anti-death penalty too, but let's take this trial to where the buck stops - in the White House - and not with some snotty-nosed enlisted creeps who never learned the difference between right and wrong. Give those guys 30 days and a dishonorable discharge. What would be right for Dubya, who sets the moral tone for our armed forces? Well, as I say, I dislike the gurney. But if anyone has EVER merited it ... herm

Given that they were killing under the orders of George Bush, perhaps they should be presented with a Point of Light award instead of being put on trial.

No President has set the moral tone for the Army - I have served under them all from Carter to Bush II (and am currently serving). We have our own Code indepenedent of politicians - as it should be be. Those guys broke with the Code. Now they need to pay.

No President ever told some little gimp, hey, how about murdering a family and raping the daughters. Put him against a wall and shoot him.

how do you know?

Well Bani, I'm over here where it happened...and I know how the deals go down. Have you ever been here? Do you know how things function? If not, heck, join up and come over here and speak from experience.

"I know how the deals go down."

ROTFLMAO!!!!

no bani.....not enough beers to come back here and read how the left will jump all over ALLEGED criminal activity by american soldiers and then go on a rhetorical rampage about how we stomp on the rights of the people who are the ENEMY........thats all I am saying....it is obvious that they cant get a fair trial without some of the given rights to a defendant in any case here....
and the left should be screaming as loud as we are about all of this...but no because there might be something come out somewhere that doesnt make the pres look bad...and thats all that counts anymore from the left....or at least thats the way it looks.

It is unquestionable that this incident was horrific and these scumbags did their absolute best effort to make our country look awful, like Gitmo, Torture, Abu, Hearing GWB speak, etc...

But who here has ever been faced with tha pressue? And who here is suffering in some of the hottest temperatures in the world worring about exploading at any given second.

I can see how these guys "snapped." Who knows, I might have too, and you might have too. I can't fathom killng our own soldiers who have sacrificed so much.

Life with a chance of parole in 25 years. I know that sounds soft, and it is by no means a devaluation of Iraqi lives. It is a partial guilty because of the context, they say "war is hell," I couldn't imagine too many visions of hell worse than Iraq.

IF they are found guilty then they should be dead. unlike bl29% i dont think american lives are more important than any other lives. if anybody rapes and kills then they deserve to die

i also dont care how much "pressure" they are under.....if a gang member kills and rapes your family would you give a rats ass about the " pressures" he lives under...i wouldnt.

and trying to say that " lefties " think they should be punished because it makes bush looks bad is pathetic

bl2/ audrey...if your family got raped and killed would you be there defending the accused? i highly doubt it

"out of the side of your mouth anytime you get so concerned about rights.......this is not to be antagonistic...but why should we treat the ENEMY better than we treat our soldiers......"

Stupid astroturfer, crawl back under your rock.

I am against the death penalty on principle, and don't support death for these soldiers. They also deserve the presumption of innocence at this point.

As this evolves, we shall see if this case begins to resemble "Breaker Morant." For those who remember, this was a movie made about twenty five years ago about a group of Australian soldiers serving on the side of the British Empire during their 1899-1902 war against the guerilla resistance of the Boers in South Africa. The Australians were given oral guidance and the clear impression they were to take no prisoners. After one of their own got killed by the guerillas, things got out of hand and they killed prisoners and also executed a civilian they believed to be spying for the enemy. They were arrested. Although they deserved some punishment or sanction, the gist of the movie is that they were placed into this situation by their superiors, who gave the orders, and who then escaped responsibility themselves. Many argue Breaker Morant and his men were executed largely as a political sop to the Boer enemy with whom the British planned to negotiate an end to the war.

Are these US soldiers going to be treated fairly? Are they going to get the death penalty not so much for what they did, but to appease Iraqis who we want help from in stabilizing the country? Will there be any investigation, on and up to the office of the Secretary of Defense of the USA, on the orders, instructions, guidance and training given to these men and others similarly situated?

I am not saying they are innocent. I am not saying they do not deserve, if found guilty, severe punishment.

But I cannot discount the concerns raised that, like Breaker Morant, people in the Bush Administration will be happy to look the other way and see these men be sacrificed as a way to show our Iraqi allies we value their lives as well.

bl2/ audrey...if your family got raped and killed would you be there defending the accused? i highly doubt it

but they would still have a right to a defense and in these cases they apparently arent.....where is your outrage over american soldiers being tried and convicted in the media and anywhere that murtha might be running his mouth without proof, much less a fair trial.

also 503 gives us an insight into why libs are seen as unamerican

american lives are more important when the others are THE FRIGGIN ENEMY.now the victims may not be the enemy in these cases, but that is beside my point.....
our soldiers are more important

503.....apologies to you because after I read this comment from this mental midget, as this could be the motto of the dnc especailly with his 'unique' style of comeback. real intelligent stuff here....

its obvious from the two comments I just responded to that there are more unamerican posters here than even I thought. to think that the enemy deserves more rights than the enemy is shamefull and a disgrace

But who's the real enemy ~ Mr. Bushlovertwo?

Bush Caught in a Lie About the 9/11 WTC Attacks
If Bush really did see an airplane on TV hitting the World Trade Center then he saw that the aircraft was under control at the time, and he saw it before arriving at Booker Elementary because he was en route to the school when the first plane struck WTC 1 - a closed-circuit live feed to his limo is the only way he could have seen this impact on TV.
